Skanes is not a resort as such as there is only hotels along the coastline nothing much else airport 10 mins away
Beach nice powdery sand but seaweed is washed up - off putting - wouldnt go into sea because of it dont know if this is the norm or a one off.

The only entertainment available is hotel based mostly caters for kids ok though but there is a pretty good nightclub on site.

Tip the sunbed men they dont earn a lot of money and they do appreciate it. Do not pay the asking price for anything - haggle - this is their tradition.

If you do venture out of your complex the real Tunisia is on your doorstep The medina in sousse is an eye opener beware of strangers coming up to you claiming to be waiters/doormen/cleaners etc from your hotel.

They claim to take you to the goverment shop which is a fixed price shop -no haggling - You will end up somewhere else buying a leather coat you dont really want or worse still -a carpet!! Try and fit that into your case
2 out of 3 taxi drivers are ok the third one is Stirling Moss!!

The resort was really well looked after, and you just felt relaxed. you never had to worry about anything while you were on the beach as it was well looked after and it was security based for any body trying to hassel you to buy things........you had a choice of water sports to do on the beach aswell, if you like that sort of thing.1

Skanes is lovely and quiet.......... and that's all!
There is one shop (a petrol station), and nothing else!!
To get to the nearest town (Monastir or Port el Kantoui) is about 10 - 15 Dinar ( about £7 - 11) There is a beach in Skanes, but that's all!
Look out for the old man selling Bananas on the beach (you'll welcome the sight after the awful food at the hotel) He is lovely and reasonably priced, and that's his only source of income!!

all been said in previous reports.. a lovely hotel. use the spa and have a hammam and massage.. brilliant
however what hasnt been mentioned is the fact that tunisia has a closed currency policy.. you can change up money at this hotel but only cash for cash.. no cards, in fact you can only use your plastic once when you leave the hotel,so charge whatever you like to the room ie. spa, drinks, etc and save your cash for money exchange. remember you cannot take tunisian money out of the country, the customs men at the airport ask for any DT money and may search you all Dinars found are confiscated.. so remember to change cash little and often.

Skanes is not a very busy town but when you stay at a hotel like Sahara Beach there is really no need to leave the complex. The clanliness outside the hotel complex is only what you can expect when you visit a poor north african country.
