The cleanliness of the resort was excellent. The staff encouraged all to take part in the entertainment. If you did not want to take part you were not forced. The beach was cleaned regulary and if the camels were caught short it was cleaned up.
Watch out for the traders, the security personnel from the hotel do their best to see you are not hassled, but they cannot be everwhere.
Go to this hotel and see what I mean.

The hotel is situated on the Skanes resort. It is between Monastir and Sousse. There is nothing much in the area apart from other hotels and the beach. The beach is very close to the hotel and it is a nice change from the swimming pool (they do tend to play really loud music and only seem to have a very limited amount of CDs so they play the same songs over and over again, which can get a bit annoying) the beach however is not very clean but it offers quite a lot of water sports at a reasonable price.
I recommend that you visit Sousse first. the souk and the medina are very big and I found that the shop keepers wern't as agressive as they were in monastir of hammamet where they could get quite nasty if you didn't go in their shops or buy something from them. They are literally all over you and will try to get you in their shops at all costs and after a while, I did find this a bit annoying.
I would recommend however that you go for a two day excursion in the desert with Camel ride and camp in the desert. It was a fantastic experience. Hammamet is quite far from the resort and frakly not worth the hassle but if you really fancy it then take a taxi to the Sousse Louage station and get a "louage" (a mini van that you share with other people) to go to Hammamet.
I enjoyed my holiday but I don't think I will return there as there is very little to visit in the area. It is perfect for a beach holiday though.

Did not do much on resort. Went on camel rides and also to Monastir for haggling. Got some very good bargains. Hubby not impressed with Monastir, everywhere you went people trying to get your attention! One shop in Monastir called 'Yasmine'was excellent. Yes, you did pay a little more than in the streets, but no hassle. Camel rides very good. In Sahara hotel there is a man called Habib who does the camel rides. Kissing camel very different! We thought the beach was lovely and clean, but again got hassled a little! Hotel also has a zoo, if you can call it that! Had loads and loads of different kinds of birds, got boring after a while! Their crazy golf bit boring as well. If weather good, does not really matter as couldn't get kids out of the pool though! We went in May and already hitting 116 degree when we out there. Could not handle in high season! We have already rebooked and going there again in October!

There is nothing in Skanes only hotels!!! oh and a beach. The beach is lovely to look at from a distance but it is full of camel poo, as the camels are on the beach all the time. A warning = never buy anything from the men on the beach.
You will get hassled all the time but just walk away after saying no.
There are no shops, bars, cafes or restaurants in Skanes. You can buy bottled water in the hotels but it's warm.

The resort and pools are cleaned regularly. There are 3 pools outside one of which is great for diving in as it is 2 metres. I could always rely on getting a deck chair as there were plenty. The beach was very clean. I would definatly visit the resort again!

You have to bear in mind that Skanes in general is just a line of hotels and not a lot else.
We didn't venture much into other parts of Skanes for this reason. Our hotel provided everything we needed. We did walk along the beach for an hour or so and it was very pleasant and very quiet.
From Skanes you can easily reach the local towns of Sousse and Monastir by either taxi or metro train( very cheap)The airport at Monastir is right next to Skanes so transfers are very quick.

The Thalassa Hotel location was rather unusual. Fab being so close for a transfer from the airport ( dont worry you arent disturbed by the aircraft landing or taking off) but all I can say is that it a busy dual carriage way along which are quite a few huge hotels spread over a considerable distance. You cant call Skanes a resort - its just a long road. Along this road is a rather unpleasant strong sewerage smell.
Monastir being tidied and smartened up in preparation for the President arriving in next couple of weeks.
A walk to the "miami shopping centre" was about 30 mins - take my advice - DONT BOTHER! We were ripped off by the smaller of the 2 shops and most of the stock was nearly or was out of date. They are shops the size of your local village store - not a shopping centre!
Taxi to Monastir varied between 5 - 7DT. Diving centre in the Marina. One dive was 50DT, the other was 40DT. Vital equipment appeared well serviced.
Taxi to Port el Kantaoui was 15DT. Marina nice with alot of shops and places to eat/ drink.
Didnt go to Sousse - drove trough it - that was enough of an experience.
Dive centre at Thalassa Hotel was shut for a month even though dives had been reserved and confirmed by email.
Beach has powder fine sand which was being cleaned by a tractor daily. Husband ventured in for swim in 13c.
