Although there is not much to do in Skanes, a short taxi ride takes you to the nearest town at a reasonable cost. However, just relax and enjoy the hotel and the All Inclusive package.

Too many beggars on the beach.

The resort of Monastir though a pleasant small town had little to offer. The usual gaggle of shopkeepers trying to lure you into their shop with the promise of "hassle free looking". The town is about a 30 minute Noddy train ride from the hotel but a taxi drive would have been roughly the same price and quicker. The town of Sousse had more appeal and more to look at in the market, this is a 15/20 minute taxi drive away.

The nearest resort was Monastir and there were plenty of places to visit. Easy acces to Restaurants for lunch and supermarkets to purchase water/beer/wine etc.

The beach is situated approx 500 yards away from the hotel, which you can use the horse and cart to get there if you so wish, such as parascending, pedalos and jet skis.
The beach and water is very clean and has different sports on site if you wish to indulge. It is very peaceful and the beach is safe for children. Not far away is Go-Kart racing which again you pay 10 Dinars for 15 minutes.
The nearest busiest town and resort is Sousse which you can catch a No. 52 bus there and back for about 3 Dinars or a taxi there will cost you about 7 Dinars, being in mind at 8pm the taxi fares will rise about 20% extra.
Always agree a price before getting in the taxi's. When going shopping visit the Soula centre first as this is a fixed price tourist shop. Then venture into the Medina afterwards and barter about third of the price. Carpets and leathergoods are their main retail items.
Go and just have a great time like we did.

At the time of our visit there had been a lot of heavy rain and the beach was not as clean as I had seen it also that sea was not the clear blue that I am used to but it did improve a couple of days after the rain stopped.
There is a lot of building work continuing in the area and that had a negative effect of the overall views but Tunisia is a developing tourist area things will improve.
Skanes is ideally situated insomuch as it was only at £3 cab ride from the airport and is in easy each of Sousse £4 in a cab and Port El Kantoui £6 in a cab.
If you want to stay somewhere with good standards of service with friendly and honest locals and the chance, without too much effort, to get into the desert and really see something of a foreign country then Tunisa is worth a visit, if however you want to pick up the Sun newspaper daily, drink Guiness and experience wall to wall night clubs then it is not.

The resort was dusty and dry. The entertainment was kids hour which was fun as the parents joined in and made themselved look ridiculous. The beach was ok but nothing special.
Save that bit extra and stay in a 4* you get so much more for your money and no hassle at all.
When going to Skanes remember "Its all about the dinar"

The area in general was quiet, there weren't many shops around but Monastir was only a noddy train away! It brought you around the not-so-tourist part of Skanes and in to the shops in Monastir. One thing I will say is that you should be prepared to haggle. The men will not give you time to look around, if you glance at anything on their stall they're over like a shot. It's something you get used to as you go on but if you're firm they'll get the message and move on. If you do decide to buy then have a low price in mind. The shop owners will generally give you a very unreasonable price to start with but are just chancing their arm. Generally, if you reach your limit and they still won't budge, walk away. The majority of the time they'll call you back and settle. If you're planning on going to Tunisia, go for 2 weeks. I went for 1 and it wasn't enough. You're just getting used to the place and the people and you have to go home!!
