Altinkum is in our opinion the Turkish Blackpool, lots of noise and loud music from bars & clubs as if competing with one another. Didim beach, as a fellow guest described it, "was like sitting in an ashtray", filter tips everywhere I thought smoking was on the way out! Walking the main road was a nightmare as restaurant workers and shop owners jockeyed for your custom, more often quite aggressive and not a pleasant experience for two weeks. Noise produced by the Medusa Club dominates the whole of Didim beach so forget about catching up on your sleep during daytime. We left the resort for three days & visited Dalyan for brief respite,(Dalyan is heaven on earth in comparison).

Altinkum -what a mess! the road in was like entering war torn Baghdad with incomplete construction sites for seemingly miles on end.The entertainment consists of 20 or so bars pumping out a strange mix of R and B combined with Cha Cha Slide! frenzied pubesent Turkish lads break dancing and those notorious pavement touts man-handling you into their particular bar -two weeks of this is not fun! exceptions to the rule nice relaxing Chill Out bar and Bettys Cafe the only place for a decent coffee.
worth a visit is The new waterpark however this closed down on 30th September for the season, the market in the old part of the town on Saturdays and the ruins of Apollos temple.
Any shopping of note is confined to fake T-shirt and watches again insistant pressure by staff to make you buy, also a 1000 or so estate agents will invite you to purchase a villa or two -(hence the building site appearance). The 3 beaches are sandy and pleasant enough, but try swimming from the wooden pontoons between beach 1 and 2. This is'nt Turkey-its a down market mish mash appealing only to easily pleased families looking for a cheapo break or would be Shirley Valentines being wooed by Teenage Turkish boys looking for a British passport yuk!

We went to Altinkum for the very first time in June 2005 and fell in love with the whole aspect of the area.
The walk through Dolphin square for the very first time next morning, coming towards that awesome view of the bay, sea, beach and the mountains in the back drop took our breath away.
The resort we found to be very clean. The beach was always clean. The promenad, the shops, restaurants, take away shops, the bars, nightclubs etc buzzing with loads of people of all ages and nations, going about with such happy and smiley faces. Music pouring out of some clubs and bars, getting your feet moving in a dancing stride.
The whole area so beautifully light. You had no fear of walking around. The Turkish people so friendly and very hospitable.
Made our holiday very relaxing and we returned back to Altinkum in September 2005.
We have found our paradise now and will be returning back next year.

This was my fourth visit to Turkey and i have always been a big fan - however I was astounded by the change since my last visit 5 years ago - prices have doubled in general, its a struggle to buy a bottle of beer for £1 now, whereas that would have been expensive in 2000! That was a bit disappointing.
There are some nice restaurants along the seafront - I would recommend Everest right along the far end - £15 for 3 courses including all local drinks - good value for money and the food was good too. They have a turkish night too with a belly dancer and dancing for a couple of pounds more. Also Romeo's opposite the harbour does nice food and his staff are a good laugh. We went on a boat trip with him too - £6 for the whole day - we didn't get back until 7pm! The bars were all quite quiet end at the end of September, so anyone wanting big nights out would be disappointed - I wouldn't go later than end of September again. All in all Altinkum is a nice place, but not as big as somewhere like marmaris, so not as much to do, so i feel i've seen it all and would go somewhere different next time.

Altinkum, although busy and lively is clean. Entertainment is as you would expect on Holiday Resort, noisey and lively. All 3 Beaches are really lovely. We are going back in June 2006. Altinkum is great!!!

The beach was cleaned on a nightly basis with cig ends filtered out by a machine. - Excellent.
Run the gauntlet as you walk from one end of the town to the other. - Turkish.
Find some great restaurants with live entertainment. - Excellent
Do a bit of haggling on the market. - Excellent.
Never any problems with traditional British yobs. - Excellent.
All things considered, I would go back and hope to see the same spotlessly clean area, and hope to see the Kebab stall holders fighting with machettes and the police sorting them out. - Excellent.
