We have been told that all the facilities at the Tropical will be closed and that only the ones at the palace will be available.

Vicky

I would suggest you consider the Creche facility as it will give both yourself and your baby a break for a couple of hours a day. Our boy was nearly 2 when we went last year and put him in the 2pm-4pm sessions most days as it was the hottest part of the day and the creche is nicely air conditioned and he absolutely loved it and it also gave us a couple of hours to completely kick back and chill. :)

You know, I'm a bit of a conspiracy theorist, and what wouldn't surprise me is that if FC have made it all up about closing the tropical, knowing that the kos and kefalonia abc's are not going to be ready, so that they had all this accommodation ready at this holiday village to move everyone too!

Really wouldn't surprise me!

Michael, i was told on Friday when FC phoned me that they still weren't totally sure what would be open and what wouldn't they said they would make a decision within the next 2 weeks (obviously when they know what everyone from the KABC's are doing) and then they would send everyone a letter!

Hi Football swampie

I have thought about the creche as you can also pre book it before you go but wasnt sure what to do as he will literally turn one 2 days before we go so i wasnt sure if he was a bit young.........if you book it in resort how do you pay? Lira? Sterling? can you use credit card?
What sort of stuff did they do with them? Anything that you think a 1yr old would enjoy?
It would be great to get him out of the sun mid afternoon as in august im sure it will be hot hot hot....i could do 2hrs serious sunbathing aswell.

Thanks

:) Hi all, I have been on the phone today to my local holiday shop, about the Tropical been shut, the other day when FC wanted us to change our booking from KABC to PP they said that the only part of the PT that would be closed was the apartments everything else would be open.

Anyway after reading this forum decided to phone Mat at Thomsons back, it was him they told all this the other day, just thought I would check with him make sure I wasnt going daft, anyway Mat said he would phone again and double check and guess what, now Iv booked the PT wont be open, although they assure me this wont affect our holiday as it is just a mirror of the PP and were not missing out on anything.

I asked about the football pitch and other activities been over at the PT and he said the FC person he spoke to seemed to know alot and she said that all the activities would still be running from the PT.

Hope this is not another FOB.

We had a letter the other day that said all the facilities at the PT were going to be closed.

Steph

Last year after the disasterous start they included the ice creams at the beach bar which was a couple of minutes walk away from the pools and these stopped around 4pm but i notice that ice creams arent mentioned on the all inc in the brochure again so who knows.

Vicky

He used to play with cars and trains and there was a little slide in there and they did some colouring etc. Each day there was a different theme such as jungle, pirate, disney among others. We booked it before we went as we have done again for this year and i think it was cheaper to book here. I think you would be able to pay in Sterling as you could with everything else there. The carers were very good with the children so i really would not worry about putting your child in there. If you do be sure to get your name down on the sheet for everyday as soon as it goes up as the sessions get booked up fairly quickly and the 2-4 session was very popular probably because of the heat. They also issue you with a mobile phone in case they need to contact you at all during that period.

My wife has just told me that the sessions are 1 and 1/2 hours long and not 2 as i put.

Debora

The Football pitch is on the Palace side so dont worry about that one. The PT is not actually a mirror but there are a lot of things on both sites. The biggest loss of the PT being closed are the slides in the pool as the two in the PT were wicked. There are still slides in the Palace so you will have fun i am sure.

Wow, Briar you're first to post in two days on here, that must be a record!

Do you think if all of us from the Kefalonia & Kos ABC and the PT/PP cancelled at the same time, FC would go bankrupt? I can't believe how many people they have upset this year! They truly have bitten off more than they can chew. Throw in the Corfu ABC on top of all this mess and they really have made a right ass of themselves. I don't think they'll get T.O. of the year for 2006 do you?

FC have also made promises on a village in Mexico which is behind and won't be completed on time. How many more people are they going to upset? At least the PP/PT are built even if only 1 hotel is being used I suppose :?

I look forward to the reviews when the first people go out this year to PP but I hope you all have a good time. If you are happy lazing by the pool all day then you should be happy in the daytime. Maybe take your own spirits with you in case the measures are weak again this year. You can get a nice meal in the small village down the road if you can't stand the food on site (I know you shouldn't have to but we got desperate) - take a few games with you for the evening in case the entertainment is rubbish and you might be OK.

Hi Carrie, like you, we ate out at the end of our holiday in the village and wished we had done earlier. We also tended to laze by the pool all day and look forward (not) to the evening "entertainment". Although I believe from the reviews that it got better later in the season. Mind you it couldn't have got any worse. Never before on holiday have I resorted to watching Johnathan Creek in my room on BBC choice as a better alternative to what was on offer.

can i just say to anyone reading this that we went in oct and the food was lovely and the entertainment was good ( most of the time) so dont be put off

Thanks Hayley/John,

I think most of the reviews towards the end of the season were overall pretty good! I'm concentrating on those for the moment.

We're not to worried about the evening entertainment. We have a three year old who will go to the mini disco and I think there are kids clubs on at night aren't there? Also we'll be too busy supping beer and gabbing with our new mates there to notice what rubbish FC put on the stage!

As for the food, we really aren't fussy and I'm pretty positive that we will find something to eat somewhere in the restaurants! The past few years we have gone to hotels with buffet restaurants and we have always enjoyed it, no matter how much people have complained previously.

Oh, hold on, I just found my positive mental attitude again! :D
Most looking forward to this year, having a wee fella who is really confident in the water and I can't wait to sit by the pool and watching him jumping in and out and just generally pottering about!

With that attitude you will have a fab holiday. Enjoy!! :D

We went with an open mind at end of July, and despite being some negative things about the place, mainly the entertainment, and location, we also made loads of friends and really enjoyed the break away from the daily grind.

We found the food fine, always something everyone liked, even our very picky 8 year old!!

Scottish mum, that's why I put in my post about things getting better later in the season. FC had to react to an escalating situation from earlier in last years season. We didn't get the benefit of acts being flown in or singers / music at any of the bars or a night club that happened later on. I am certain that you will go and have a brilliant time and just remember that people who post here are only using their"own" opinion. Some people who were there from our home town who we bumped into last year thought the place was fantastic and are going back this year with a large group. Hence my point, I wouldn't go back, they are doing. Each to his own.
Reply
Of course you have your own opinion Barnio. I wasn't saying anything against that, why have you gone all defensive? I was just saying my own thoughts, nothing to do with your post hun!

I don't think last year is going to matter at all to be honest, it could go one way or the other. We could arrive in May and the place could be either diabolical or fantastic, especially since its going to be someone different doing the food and most likely a different entertainment team. So it could be full of teething problems again, or it could be sorted. Only time will tell.

its probably already been asked but when does the palace open this season, is it april or may?
hopefully the food will be better this year. they must have realised there was a problem or they wouldn't have changed the caterers.
my hubby was looking through the net for deals for this summer and the palace came up at a good price but i'm not sure about going again, mainly as summer could be too busy for me and secondly the food was my only main complaint from last year.
