Hi all  We have just filled in our online forms ready to post tomorrow
It took us 3 hours we completly lost it at at one point and had to start again
never mind its done now and it wasnt all that difficult the tip is to have all the details you need before you start.
We printed copies to keep for next time so it should be easier unless they change the applications again .

Went to Edinburgh last Thursday to hand in our passports for the visas. We asked for them to be posted back and got them back today Wednesday. All in all I thought the service was very good, much better than going to the consulate as we did in previous years. Service with a smile rather than a scowl.

Birmingham seems to be a little slow. I have been keeping an eye via the on-line tracking system and only today has the message changed to say that the visa centre have received the passports, although I know from checking the Royal Mail website that they have had them since last Friday. The website does say that we should allow 10 working days so this would seem about right.

Here is my experience of sending off visa applications to Birmingham.
Sent off applications last tuesday and online tracking said they had been received at VFS on wednesday. On saturday, tracking said they were at consulate, yesterday they were with the Royal Mail and today we received them!!http://img2.mysmiley.net/imgs/smile/jumping/jumping0045.gif
Wonderful service!

Sandy thats encouraging news, did you make an appointment or just turn up? Gramps said everything went quite smoothly as well. I will need to go thru to Edinburgh next month, mid to end October.
I am going thru to Edinburgh this Saturday, pity the consulate's not opened then :(

Hi sqiggs, can you give me some advice about the visa forms you filled in.
Did you send for more than one visa, and did you send both in one envelope, did you use special delivery envelopes.
When you filled form in, how did you get your second form online, did you click add, to fill second form in, does it come on automatically, and do you pay for each person as you fill form in seperately, or can you pay for both together with card, sorry if i appear thick but im worried i fill it in wrong.
Thanks Edna

Hi Geordiegirl,
sent for 2 visas in same envelope, special delivery.
For 2nd application you are prompted to continue.
You pay for all visas at the end of the form filling in.
It really isn't too complicated once you get started.
GOOD LUCK!!
If you have any more questions please ask!

Gemma I made an appointment online, but got a time of 0830, which was not really any good as we stay 65 miles away. I phoned the helpline to be told to just turn up when we could, and join the queue. We decided to stay overnight in Edinburgh, and got there at 0820 and there was only one person in front of us. We were out by 0850 and there were only two people after us. It seems very well organised and was painless. The staff could not have been more helpful. As i said earlier our friends got theirs back in five days after posting them, The service seems very good at present. Much much better than the consulate ever was.

Thanks Sandy. Both you and Gramps have put my mind at rest quite a bit. It certainly seems less painless than last year!
I will be going thru soon, so fingers crossed I dont encounter any problems.
I am going thru to Edinburgh on Saturday so I am going to take a walk up to where the new consulate is so I know exactly where I am going :)

Well, it took a few days for the passports to show up as received by the on-line tracking system but once they were on there, they progressed pretty quickly. My in-laws should receive their visas either today or Monday. So a little over a week from receipt by VFS. Not bad. :)

We posted ours Monday last week and recieved them 9 days later so very quick and no probs doing it online.

Hi my friends have just got their visas from vfs. They used the old forms that we have used, hand written. I thought that you could only use the new system, but they rang vfs and was told they could download the old forms and use them. This must be easier as i have tried the new way and cannot get past the security code stage, as it will not accept the code.

Yes, i was thinking of doing that! Do you send postal orders to the value of £30 per visa, or is there extra administration costs?

India set to introduce pay as you arrive visas from next year according to article in todays sunday times
