Wow just spotted this thread.Have to look more closely into it but it looks like they really are trying to put us tourists off doesnt it.As if it was not pain enough filling out all the forms and coughing up 30 quid a pop now we cannot even apply by post and whatever way we get them will incur additional cost.
So for me and my OH that looks like a minimum of 80 quid for our two week break.Next Saturday we fly to Thailand were it is visa on arrival and now included in the flight price. No hassle at all and nearly as cheap as Goa.
Add to that the fact that hotel standards are ten times better and the people are just as friendly then it seems to me this is becoming what our American Friends call a no brainer.
Honestly,I am sat here just staggered that anyone could actually make that decision. Is there no one in charge that can see how this will affect long term bookings.O.K. if you are already booked or are not lucky enough to have discovered this site then you are going to have to follow the new rules. But what about next year. After all the hassle what decision will people make next year?
Came on the site tonight all detemined to make a decision about Goa in March. Now I think I will be spending a lot more time in the Far East forum.
Sorry,rant over.
Regards,
An extremely exasperated papa.
papa.
Last time I typed my application form out by downloading it to word. They were fine with that last time.
Sounds mad but is it still ok to do this or do they have a problem with people doing that?
Cheers
Just filled our visa forms out ,we are sending them off to an agent tomorrow, will let you know how we get on.

Found out there is a visa surgery in Liverpool 01/12/2007 and it looks like I may be giving up a saturday and getting in the car.
Anyone had any experience of this surgery?
regards
papa
Hi i know there are visa topics but i think this is important. It's not even the season yet but read this...
Oh dear what a fiasco still can`t help but wonder why the guy travelled all the way from Scotland when he could have gone to Edinburgh though ? Lets hope people power prevails and normal service is resumed very soon.
Very strange why the man drove from Fife to Birmingham for a Visa when he is only about 20-30 miles from the Consulate in Edinburgh
I hope they dont start putting number restrictions on the Consulate in Edinburgh as well. I might think about going to the Visa Surgery in Glasgow, but thats only on every 2nd Saturday in each month and is an even bigger nightmare than the consulate itself
If it is worse than Edinburgh, it must really be something to see! I think that the idea of paying someone else to queue is looking better and better.
We arrived just afer 9am with all the appropriate forms already completed (as we always do). It was total bedlam when we arrived and we hung about all morning, in this queue and that queue then we had to queue to go upstairs to another queue
As it was near lunch time we asked one of the officials could we leave and go for lunch (the queuing system was by means of a raffle ticket number ). We went for lunch and when we returned we still had about an hour and a half waiting time to be near the front of the queue. My partner works for the roads department and as it was winter time he was called out to work, so he dropped me off and I collected my car. I came back and queued to go "upstairs". I thought "At least this is the last bit" but oh no I was wrong once upstairs I paid the money, the Indian man took all the paperwork from me and told me to queue downstairs again (its laughable isnt it), he told me maybe another hour or two and Visa would be ready At this point I went to Morrisons and done a weeks shopping!!!! then I returned and had a short wait for the visa to be issued just after 6pm. Nightmare!
Not sure if any one aware, I've just been on Jewel in the Crown site & there is info on there re visa also a form for an agent, works out £55 each inc postage.
Hope the above is useful.
AJ
You get given a raffle ticket and are sat down, tea and coffee were provided and basically waited your turn. We left at 11:30 visas in hand. It was an extra £10 per visa but at least we didnt let our passports out of our sight!
Slight amount of chaos as people saw/heard smoething and before you knew it - about 70 people were stood at the desks - hat they were waiting for I don't know as you had to shoe your ticket so there was no chance of anyone pushing in!
If you want any more info PM me.
Hope this helps

Thanks very much.I have a feeling it may be much busier in December.
He had initially written via another MP to UK Visas - but they replied saying that they were unable to help with this matter and he would have to write to HCI in London about immigration matters. He has now done so and will let me know when he has some answers.
We did as suggested on the official website, in as much as they would accept applications by post, up until the 10th september. We didnt send them of 'till the 3'rd sept, and they were as good as their word.
Failing that, it waas gonna be a 2 1/2 hr trip down Brummie-land to obtain them.
Feeling all smug and happy now ...... Nov 26th, bring it on !!!!
Am getting worried - do they or do they not accept post applications. That's the way I have always don it. Or can any tell me if there is a surgery near to Bolton

Carol there is a travel agent in Bolton that does them for £30 + a £10 handling fee for each visa but I will contact Fiona and ask if it is ok for me to tell you as I don`t want an ear bashing from her
They take all the applications to Birmingham on Thursdays and then pick them up the following Thursday. So if you time your application to reach them by a Wednesday you should have them back the following week.:D
