What a complete and utter shambles

Just been told by yourtravelshop that our visas will be submitted to Birmingham on Monday and should be returned the following Monday. They got them on 11th October. I am now really worried - what if our passports get lost? What if we have completed the forms incorrectly, it doesn't give us too long to sort it out. But then again I am a bit of a worrier!

I know im only repeating whats been said many many times, but this situation is ridiculous! I feel so much for those of you that are traveling soon and still have no Visa's.

Interesting blog in My Telegraph http://my.telegraph.co.uk/sigourd_shack/october_2007/thinking_of_travelling_to_india_for_a_holiday_or_b.htm

It also surprises me that none of the travel correspondents in British papers seem to have picked up on this problem and that the Indian High Commission does not seem bothered by it either.

Yes quite!!

Yummy Mummy my boyfriends passport only took 10 days to come back, I think he paid £5 extra for the check and send service - which speeds it up..?

I'm getting quite worried about this Visas thing, my boyf keeps saying it's too early too worry about it (we go in March) .... but I'm not so sure!

Polly you will be fine, at least youknow when they are going to be submitted, you've completed the forms previously so you shouldn't have a problem.

Think positively, that's what I keep telling myself, each time I log on and read a visa thread and get worked up. These visa threads are really doing that to me!

Lozza I think your boyfriend is right, it is too early if you are not going until March. At the moment it's frantic because it is the start of the season and everyone is submitting their applications, and all trying to time them so that they can get the most out of their 6 months.

I would wait until January, hopefully things will have got better by then, but when you do decide to submit, make sure you ring around and find out how long each agent is quoting.

Well I am a bit of a worrier!!

I think you are right, January should be fine, I just keep thinking what if?! There is nothing I can do right now anyway, just wait and see....

Thanks Miccie!

Good luck everyone else!

We have decided to look elsewhere this year which is a shame as we love India and had intended a return to Kerala. I think there will be plenty of cheap offers too as we won't be the only ones who are not prepared to travel long distances just to que for a visa for hours, if indeed we are able to que at all.
A poor season of revenue from tourism might make the authorities think again.

Have told hubby to read latest postings on the situation, he has been getting visas for quite a few years, so knows the score, but this year is a bit different.
Have taken steps to releive my anxiety, early glass of wine mid-week is helping [sorry for :offtop ] If the worst comes to the worst I will have to change my flight, but don't really want to think about that yet.

Merged with existing topic.

Please use one of the existing topics to discuss visas without starting a new one. There are enough of them.

:) If anyone is lucky enough to have a visa surgery on their doorstep, I would advice them to use this facilty in obtaining a visa, When OH and myself queued at the Nottingham visa surgery it wasn't a painful ordeal, in fact it was quite pleasent because we were all there for the same reason and had lots to chat about, admittedly we had to start queuing at approx 5.30am in order to be near the front but the surgery were actually processing 500 visa's that day, so to cut a long story short, Yes, I will be there again to obtain my visa if they dont reinstate the postal applications, its all part of the enjoyment of Indian bureaucracy, Ilove it, call me strange

So pleased for you as I know how worried you were that you wasn't going to make Saturdays flight.

Well done Lin, now the anxiety levels can return to normal. You've probably said already, but where did he go, was it London?
Reply
yes it was at London, apparently there were several people trying to jump the queue, but were told in no uncertain terms to go to the back by hubby, if you are travelling the next day you have to show flight tickets as proof, hopefully when the season is underway the situation should improve,
