Just back from a week in Benidorm. The 'new' Talk of the Coast has been well fitted out but it is very cosy now, not a lot of room in the place. Went to see Neil Ross 3 times during my visit and he was excellent as always (apart from singing Athenry each night!). He ended his show each evening with Look for me in Rainbows which is such a lovely ballad. Sadly the Mad Maori is not on at the moment due to ill health, he has been replaced by a very unfunny Irish Comic called Chic Smith. Saw some good acts and some not so good. Thought the Westlife tribute act were very professional and a better turn to watch than their Take That counterparts (even though I prefer the real Take That to Westlife). Tony Scott was brilliant as always, Matthew and Son were not so brilliant and I can see the end coming for this act. The worst act I saw was the Meatloaf tribute act from Las Vegas at Jokers, he was terrible and not a patch on Peatloaf who is now on at Stardust and Rockerfellas.

It was good to see the cabaret bars very busy, much busier than they were last August when I was last in Benidorm. It was also amazing to see the number of bars doing local lager for 1 Euro or less! I am also amazed to see pubs selling John Smiths Extra Smooth about £1 cheaper than I can buy it in the UK. How do they do it? Panchos was very quiet with a distinct lack of families on the go even though it was the easter holidays for a lot of the country.

I took off from Teesside airport in a snowstorm with the temp at +2.5 degrees and landed under 3 hours later at Alicante with the temp at +22 degrees (@8.15pm). What a difference.

For anyone who likes Queen....the Group that is, there is a new act appearing at the Rockerfellas starting 1st May and running 6 nights a week apart from August. Its called "We Will Rock You" and Features Asa Elliot (usually at Sandras), Darren Sweeney, and Mark and Dave (Smart Move). Thats a good line up of singers and promises to be a good show. Think they are on stage 11.30 ish. Will check them out when we go in May.

Theres a sampler of them on this link below, going to be a proper sound and light show with video wall etc apparently.

Hi Taggy
Made me laugh when someone asked on another site if they were a Queen tribute band, and "they" said no.

Being a Queen fan myself...I would say if you're singing Queen songs and using their backdrops/pictures etc, then if you're not a Queen tribute band, what exactly are you.?
The show "We will rock you" was a spin off from Queen.
Anyway, having heared a sample on that site you posted, all I can say is.....don't give up the day job. :rofl
When you're a devoted Queen fan and you hear someone slaughter one of Freddie's songs, it's irritating, but after a few drinks I suppose even Moff begins to sound like Freddie. :rofl

:rofl Hi Sanji...i just knew you would'nt be able to resist that one...being a "Freddie Freak" that you are! Lol! Hey Girl, even i sound like Freddie after a few drinks...Kruger that is!!!...Yes i was trying to work that one out, so i suppose they are a tribute of a tribute, which of course still makes them a tribute!! :rofl I actually quite like Moff, he makes me laugh. His young lad was in the UK bar one night when i was in there, i was chatting to the Girl who did the Cher tribute (that word again Lol!) there, she also did a duo act with Moff as "Rockman and Her", the Lad looks like a Chip of the old Block. She was looking after him while Moff was at Talk Of The Coast! When i spoke to him about it Moff said he was a Pain in the ....! As i say " chip off the block! Lol!

A Bloke i used to know from Accrington, Lancs, called PAUL HUMPHREYS has moved over to Beni in the last couple of months to be a Compere at a Pub/Club. Was wondering if anyone knows which venue he may be at. He's a short stocky chap, with short hair, and used to be a pal of the comedian Jim Bowen.

Hi all! Less than 2 weeks and I'm in sunny Beni!!!! Whoo. Quick question, I have herd a lot about Shaun Conolly, what is that he does, were and is it a great show????? Thank you
Reply
Hi Tasha,

Shaun Connolly is a singer. He does all sorts but a fair bit of Tom Jones. He is good.

Last time I saw him in September was in Morgans but he does a few different places.

I'm sure you'll have no problem finding him on somewhere.

Is there a booklet I can pick up in Benidorm with a list of the acts on ? Always planned on seeing a few acts but never got round to it before or haven`t done as our son wouldn`t have sat through one, now he is older we fancy trying a few. I would like to hopefuly plan some to see before we go as I don`t want to end up at wrong place at the wrong time. Any info apreciated.
Travelling in August and staying at the Princes park hotels, so we are a fair way from the acts.

Hi Christine...Theres the little yellow book, you can pick up in Bars which will give you an idea of who is on in various bars but its not strictly up to date. Its called whats going on benidorm. They also have a website, whatsgoingonbenidorm.com. If there are any acts you particularily want to see...or avoid :rofl let me know and i'll try my best to let you know where they are appearing. Or if you let me know the type of acts you like to see, i'll will give you some info. Just came back on Sunday and we are going again in early July.
