Hi There is an investment company Edison Ford in the UK that seem to be OK re investing and property/land in Turkey.They also have a Turkish lawyer here in the UK which is a great idea. They seem to have all angles covered re Brits in Turkey.I am not sure if this is what you are looking for but it could be cheaper talking to them than flying out to Turkey !

Can you get a package with all basics - or do you have to go and buy everything from suppliers?

Hi Joolz its me again! Most agents will help you with furnishing some will offer packages. I did it myself it's much more fun and much cheaper and I love the furniture I bought. Shopkeepers are brilliant at helping you, they will deliver often the same day if it's in stock. I did a 3 bed villa in good quality stuff including some solid wood handmade stuff, all the curtains, bedding, kitchen ware, white goods etc etc for £3K. When you get your place let me know and I'll give you tips on how to do it.

She's really easy to deal with and it feels more like talking to a friend who really likes Turkey too rather than talking to an agent.

Hi all,
I just put a deposit down on a place in Turkey and have appointed a lawyer who is based in Turkey. The turkish lawyer has said I need to sign Power of Attourney to them so they can deal with things as I won't be in the country. I was a bit concerned as if I give them power of attourney then I assume they could do anything they wish, even sell the property without my consent (obviosuly if they were untrustworthy??) Also I know people who have bought in other countries and the lawyers there have not needed power of attourney. Is this how it works in Turkey?? I would appreciate any advice.

Rich A power of attorney is a normal way of doing things if you cant be here( I have several for clients running now) But you should limit the powers to what is needed. Did you have the POA translated before you signed it and did you discuss the terms of it before it was signed??

I have not signed it yet as I wasn't sure what to do. I didn't want to give them full power as it would be a licence to do anything without my consent. The P.O.A I have been emailed is in English. To be honest, I don't know why they need P.O.A? If there was anything to be signed then couldn't they send it to me and I could sign and send it back? How would I go about giving them limited power of attorney? Do you outline what things to give them power to do and then they would send me a new p.o.a to sign? Thing is I don't really know what they need to do?? This is the first property I have bought and finding this part a bit difficult. Would really appreciate your advice?

Below is an extract from the purchase process document the lawyer sent me. It says I can choose what to give the p.o.a for. I'm not going to be able to go to Turkey myself although I will go once the apartment is complete so I could sign the final contract then. What points do you think I should give p.o.a?? Many thanks
2. Power of Attorney to lawyer
Clients decide first on which points they would like to give their lawyer a P.O.A.
* buying and selling property in the territories of Turkey
* for signing private purchase contracts
* opening bank accounts
* connecting to water and electricity utilities
* obtaining title deeds on behalf of clients
* obtaining tax number on behalf og clients
* representing clients at the court house and acting on behalf of clients in the event of any problem regarding the purchase process.
We gave our Emlak power of attorney and like you we were really worried about it. However, she was wonderful and the whole process went really smoothly although we did wait 8 months for our Tapu to come through. Our POA document was drawn up in Turkish but translated in English to us by a notary. I can understand your worries but this is the norm when purchasing in Turkey.

unless you give poa then you ave to sign and present for all the paperwork...this is a massive amount of work and time. the poa gives the solicitor the right to do it for you.just tick the boxes in the areas you want him to work in...eg the ones you listed. I have several friends in the marmaris area who have poa with one solicitor and have had no problems.
It was really the first couple in the list that I wasn't sure about. "buying and selling property " was a concern as would it be possible for them to sell the property without my say so? Also "signing the private purchase contract" I'm not sure why they would need this as I was told this would be sent to me for me to sign and send back. What do you think??

there can be several bits of paperwork concerned with your purchase... translations included..these will need to be signed for in the notary. Then there are deeds(tapu) and ruhsats to register.... believe me nothing in Turkey has minimal paperwork. he can do all this for you in your absence.
I had another read through the document and it doesn't actually say anything about selling the property. I think this was an option that could be added if needed in the future. Anyway I'm going to send it so hopefully It will be ok!! They seem like a well established firm so shaw they are not in the business of ripping people off...you never know though! Anyway thanks for your advice on this!
