Just a update on the calypso hotel and building work. My inlaws arrived home today 1.30pm had a great time weather was fantastic very hot .The hotel was very clean but they didnt care much for the food not enough choices.They prefer the rosamar food wise ..... As for the building noise at the pel/ocas its still ongoing very noisey for them ... They like to sit and read on there balconies for a bit in the afternoon but said the noise put them of lol ... Apart from that they are going back in sept to the rosamar this will be there 4th visit this year nothing puts them off they love benidorm ...

Hi im booked up to go to benidorm 21st july ...... i meet up with friends every year they have booked the calypso hotel for 2wks from the 17th july ... direct holidays has called my friend today 12 noon to inform them about the building work and has asked them if they want a full refund or a change of hotel ..... but the hotels shes picked are fully booked ... i think they have not given her much time after all she was to fly out of glasgow tues morning now she dont know what to do ..... SO MUCH FOR THE BUILDING WORK TO STOP IN JULY ..JOKE

Direct Travel probably thought the building work would be stopped as well. My advice it for your friends is to contact them and tell them that she will go to the Hotel as they have left it so late to inform her and nothing else is available that she wants, but if it badly affects her holiday she will be claiming from them. There is building work going on in quite a few places, so no matter where people go it is possible to hear some noise. Are they talking about the hotel itself of the new building close to it? Karen

Why do I smell a rat.?
This IMO stinks to high heaven, could it be that the Calypso is overbooked and an easy solution is to get the client to cancel or move hotels.? Or am I too cynical.?
First of all, I would do what mrnkar has suggested, I would take the original booking and inform them that due to the late notification of the building works that you will be claiming compensation if it affects your holiday.
Considering the building works opposite the hotel Pelicanos/Ocas has been in progress for over 6 months, they have left it a bit late in the day to inform you don't you think.?
I find it impossible to believe that they did not know about the construction works taking place opposite the hotel Ocas or the erection of 2 towers just passed the hotel Rosamar"¦someone is trying to pull wool over your eyes. IMO
If they are still laying the foundations, then you will hear it all over the Rincon area, so moving hotels will have to be somewhere pretty special.

With regards to stopping working during July and August, well, I can't comment having never been in July and August, only to say that there is a local by-law that stops all building work near the major hotels that tourists use and it was implemented last year after Thomson made formal complaints to the Town Hall
When I was in Benidorm in April and I was filming the site for this forum, I had a conversation with one of the workers in an effort to extract more information out of him as to how long this level of noise was likely to last.
He definitely told me that they were not working July and August and I personally would have thought that he had no reason to lie to me, same as I have no reason to lie to you either.
Funny, I can't say the same about Tour Operators.

the work just up from the Calypso on your way to the market.has been going on now for 2 years.you cannot really hear noise from the Pelicanos/Ocas site.unless youhave a front room.

When we were at the Nereo the other week there was quiet a few people including a stag party of 25 who had booked the Calypso and a few weeks before they travelled had been told it was over booked and had been offered the Nereo. The noise from the building work was not as bad as i thought you get use to it.

Hi all just another we update regarding my friend staying at calypso hotel ...... Yesterday she was put on hold for 57 minutes then cut off suprise suprise lol ... Her hubby came in from work he tried was put on hold again but only 5 minuts he cut them off ..... so he then phoned the calypso hotel direct they said there was NO PROBLEM A\T THE HOTEL as the building work was down at the pelicanos that we knew so sanji i think you are correct i think they have over booked ppl but friends sticking to the calypso thanks all for your replies

i tell you i was there in jan/and feb.just near rays chippy the are putting up a new block of flats.its just the crane and knocking you can hear.depends which side of hotel you on at the calypso .

Good for your friends to stick to their guns on this. Taking what Sanji said I have been doing a bit of research and I too am convinced it is an overbooking. Here is what I found out. I have gone into Direct, Airtours and My Travel sites, all the same company, searching for a 7 night holiday from Manchester. On 17th you can book the Rosamar which is also beside the works, on 28th you can book both Rosamar and Sol Pelicanos and lo and behold on 31st you can book Calypso. Karen

I am booked into the Calypso on the 31st July and I have to pick up my tickets next week, when I asked about building noise they said that they had no complaints. I picked this hotel because I had heard that it was a good one, so I wouldnt want to change it.

My friend is flying out of glasgow if you go into there site it comes up with please try another date as its fully booked for 14 nights on the 17th of july and no other date is of any use .... Remembering she put in for her holidays at her work in feb so its kinda late to ask someone else to swap your holidays but im glad shes sticking to her guns .... Shes very worried once she gets there and they ship her and her family to another hotel a bit away ... but we will wait n see cheers all

It doesn't matter about which airport you are flying from, it is a fact that they are still letting people book these hotels. Your friend can refuse to move to another hotel. I would suggest that they again ring the Hotel and ask to check their booking. The tour operaters only submit these to the hotel approx 2 weeks before due arrival, so the hotel should have them. They will need to tell them who they booked through, dates they are staying and their names. See what the hotel says and take it from there. Karen

Earlier today I asked both Benidorm Tourism and Benidorm Town Council for urgent clarification on the situation regarding any major building works still taking place in the resort, but it is perhaps unlikely now that a reply will be received today.

We are booked to go to the rosamar on 24th july from edinburgh with direct holidays we have herd nothing from them regarding noise and its next to calypso so i would think they have overbooked this hotel and are trying to pull a fast one to make you change

Just another point if they phone the Hotel and it says there isn't a booking for them. Ask the Hotel if anyone for Direct, Airtours or My Travel is booked in for those weeks. If that be the case, tell them to get back to Direct holidays and explain. Karen

Hi fat boy well im going to the rosaire on the 21st and now my tour op has only contacted me tonight 4.45 so theres time yet... they are building nxt to the vista blanca hotel nxt to rosamar and at the peli/ocas but im not sure anymore whats going on lol I GIVE UP LOL

A reply from Benidorm Tourist Office states they are aware of reports regarding building works in the resort, which suggests that construction has not (as yet) been suspended for July and August. I have asked for more information about the likelihood of the by-law being enforced which prohibits construction works during July and August, but I think that info may have to come from Benidorm Town Council, and I wouldn't expect to hear from them over the weekend.

Well i will still be going on my holls we only use hotel to sleep and eat in so hope noise wont be to bad and i am allways up at 7.00am in the morn dont go on holls to lie in my bed
