Do you need to wear "shoes" in the water or on the beach at this hotel?
We have also been asked whether we want a terrace or balcony, so allowing for the fact that we are only having standard room with no sea view:
Are the balconies/terraces linked in any way?
Where is the best place to try for which is close to the beach and the amenities.
In the DR I found a drink I actually liked which was daiquirie du naranje if, my memory serves me, which was rum, triple sec, orange juice full of crushed ice. Is there an equivalent I should try and ask for?
We found it necessary to wear something on our feet when we were at the Conrad in July/August as the sand was blisteringly hot, I'm not sure if this will be the case when you're there as I don't know what the temp. will be.
I always entered the sea to the right of the jetty and there were no sharp objects.
I think all balconies/terraces are linked as ours was HERE in that they all appeared to open onto a communal area, correct me anyone if I'm wrong!
I can't help with specific room numbers but none of the rooms are far from the beach/pool.
I only drank rum while we were there, I don't think alcoholic drinks are the hotel's strongest selling point but if you ask I'm sure they'll try to make your drink for you

Pippy

If they are all linked, is there a security issue? We are used to leaving the cossies etc out to dry..
Pippy, I'm not in your league!!! I can only drink one or two small alcoholic drinks a night before falling asleep wherever I happen to be, but the ones in the DR did taste nice.
There are sea urchins but they were a bit further out. We all took rubber soled beach shoes, you can buy them in the supermarket at the Baron hotel (5 mins walk from the Conrad). Might be as well to wear them, if you do step on a sea urchin it will be very painful as Briar will tell you

When I said I only drank rum I meant the only alcoholic drink! I did of course drink lots of water too

We left clothes, shoes, ciggies, books, towels on our balconies (our party had two rooms) and nothing ever went missing. I suppose it depends who your neighbours are but it wasn't a problem for us.
Oh I wish I was there now

Ive Read on another site the suppliment for the Italian and Seafood resturant at the Conrad is £15 each, can anyone tell me if this is correct. On the same site I read that leaving you personal belongings on your sunbed(books, shoes etc) while you go for lunch,go in the sea etc is at your own risk as things have gone missing.Maybe the person who wrote this was unlucky when they were there. Finally can anyone tell me what plugs are used in Sharm.I am starting to get all the bits and pieces together as I go in 2 weeks.
We didn't use those restaurants so can't help with that one.
We all left bags on our sunbeds on the beach every day of our holiday and none of us had any items stolen, I suppose it depends on the type of guests who are there at the same time as you though.
Plugs were two pin, I think!

Pippy

Yes I can confirm Pippa's thoughts - they do use 2 pin connectors.
I can also agree, the Conrad is probably one of the most safe hotels we have been in, for the 2 weeks we were there 'everyone' left they bags and sun gear on the beach loungers and as far as I know - nothing went walkies!!
The Italian resturant is well work the suppliment of about £15, the food is 'Very Nice' and a little different, especially the starters!! Im no wine buff, but the cost of a 'average' bottle is quite expensive for what it is !! I think you will however be surprised how nice the buffet food is in the Conrad!!
Im sure you will have a great time.
Regards
Gordon
From reading between the lines, I have sussed that unlike the IHD in the DR this hotel's All Inclusive is not actually all inclusive. !
I can't think of anything we paid for other than drinks after 23.00 and anything from the mini-bar (which is expensive) in the room.
There may be items you'd wish to purchase not included in the A/I package, international brand name alcohol for example.
Pippy

Thanks Pippy and Gordon for replying to my questions.I am quite happy to eat in the buffet resturant for the whole 2 weeks but for our -0 anniversary(many many years) I thought of trying the seafood place as my husband doesnt like italian food.I wonder if there is anywhere in Sharm anyone could recommend for a special meal.It doesnt have to be romantic(not after all these years!) but just a bit different with good food.He loves steak,I dont. Can I ask you Pippy what women wear on an evening as I havent worn a dress on holiday since I was in the DR 5 years ago?
You can dress up or down in the evening, there's no dress code as such, I mainly wore skirts and vest tops (it was VERY hot while we were there).
Am looking at the Conrad and the Radisson SAS in Sharm for early next June.
Am a little anxious about a few things though.
I hear a lot about people getting ill/bad stomach etc in Egypt, is it almost taken as red that it happens or if you follow the instructions about water/ice cubes and food etc you should be fine?
How come The Red Sea hotels are so cheap?! I know about the bombings etc but still! We normally go to Paphos, Cyprus and pay around £500/£550 per person for 7 nights B&B at a 4 star!
Sharm does look nice and relaxing and different to the typical "med" places.
Pippy, your from Worthing? I live in Storrington, not too far from your neck of the woods

Just down the road from me

I had an upset tummy for a couple of days as did a couple of others in my group, didn't spoil the holiday though.
I'm not sure why it's so cheap but I do know we got one heck of a bargain for our holiday!
If you want a relaxing holiday with a fantastic beach then the Conrad is for you! I've been told it has the best beach in Sharm, simply glorious!
Pippy

Thanks for the quick responce and the info.
I agree sure does look like a great bargin, shall have to get it booked up soon, the thought of all that hot Egyption sunshine is so tempting!
Thanks again
I'd book as soon as possible if I were you. If last year is anything to go by you'll be lucky if they aren't already fully booked for June '06
Just wondered had anyone been quite recently if so would they like to post an update. We are off to this hotel first week Jan.
Regarding the upset tums, lots have mentioned to visit the pharmacy nearby for certain tablets that seem to do the trick. Does anyone remember the name of them-can they be obtained in the UK.
My partner & I got back from Conrad on 17/11. Had fab time. I will def go back if I get the chance. Unfortunately we both had dodgy tummies, me on the 3rd day! and my other half in the 2nd week. We both tried the usual remedies but they didn't work, so we purchased 'Antinal' from the chemist. Did the trick within about 24hours. Didn't upset the hols too much, we were just glad to get better before our trips. Not good being on a bus for 7hours to Cairo with a dodgy tummy!!
For anyone concerned about the food, I did see an improvement in the temperature of the buffet in the 2nd week. However it really annoyed me that many people were leaving the lids of the serving dishes open. My only real concern was the cleanliness of the dishes. Several times I picked up plates that looked a bit grubby, and some had a really bad smell. They need to use hotter water & more detergent to wash up!
Will be posting full review in due course.
I was wondeirng if anybody could help??
We've got a holiday booked with First Choice to Sharm El Sheik onthe 5th of Jan To the CONRAD hotel
We had good flight times, leaving Gatwick airport at 9:30am and ariving at sharm at a suitable time! The flight back was at a reasonable time also, we would arive back to gatwick by 10pm.
I just received a letter from First Choice saying that our flights have now been changed to leave gatwick at 1:30pm on the 5th ariving at sharm at 8:30pm and the return journey has now been changed so that we leave Sharm at 9:30PM arive at gatwick at 12:30am!
Is there anythign we can do about this?? Also i believe checkout times on the final day is at 12pm?? which means we'll be hanging around all day for about 9 hours!
IS there anyway we can checkout at amuch later time??
Your replies would be much apreciated!
Thankyou! Tina
