Hi Nikki,
Coral Bay is nothing like Blackpool.
It is much smaller to start off with. It does have 2 fish and chip shops now but it also has a lot of nice restaurants.
The beach and sea are much nicer than Blackpool.
Yes Paphos has restaurants selling English breakfasts but this is due to the demands of British holidaymakers - not something I can understand to be honest. It also has plenty of culture and charm.
Hope this helps
Viv
Well, we will just have to try it and see for ourselves now, it's just we went to Playa de las americas(with parents for cheap hols, not through choice of ours) in tenerife last year and hated it as that was too much like Blackpool for us! So long as it's not like there we'll be happy.
Think most places we have been to in Spain are getting over run with british bars, etc.
We will be searching out the cypriot run restaurants and bars though.
Cheers x
If you are hiring a car you can get out and about and explore loads of really nice places around the Western coast of Cyprus and even further afield if you want to.
Viv
Liakada - I agree with you. Get yourself a car and take a drive inland to see and feel the real Cyprus
Avoid Peyia, Chlorakas, Trimithousa & Tala - they are full of ex-pats. Although the drive through Peyia will give you a very small glimpse of how it once was - before they went and poured all the concrete into it.
Explore the old town of Paphos by the market and visit around the town hall and some of the back streets. Visit some of the villages between Paphos and Limassol to get a totally different perspective than the holiday resorts.
Then, you will understand where I'm coming from....

Las americas is massive and incorporates Adeje, Puerto Colon and Torviscas. This are very classy areas.
We did actually stay at that end of las americas, nr torviscas and the fanabe beach. It really wasn't for us, perhaps the cloudy weather played a part in it and the road all dug up, but we were just not impressed and if that was the nice part i'm so glad we never ventured towards the opposite end!!
This is just my opinion though
Pafos is a holiday resort and the harbour area is noted to be the prettiest on Cyprus, bar street does have many watering holes but the resort remember is set up for holiday makers, you will not be disappointed, get a car an explore the Agamas area see the most butiful parts of the island, with not one shop in site!! just the odd turtle.
I will be in Coral Bay this morning...
As I am off to stay in a Viila nr Coral Bay in 5 days, just wondering if someone could tell me what the Supermarket opening hrs are like, as we need to do a big shop when we arrive. Are the Supermarkets in Coral Bay very good, do they stock many English brands, and are you able to by supplies for the BBQ there.
Early till 9pm..sometimes later, Sun close half day, not all though, we have kiosk that open 24 by 7..get most things there, remember though shops close half day Sat and Wed..bit old fashioned that way here..
Supermarkets in Coral Bay are very expensive (captive audience) Take a hire car or taxi up to Philipos in Pegia, you'll save a fortune!!!
As we are flying tomorrow (Wednesday), and should be arriving approx 16.30, will there be any shops open to stock up, as i have just read that they close half day wednesday.
Have a great time, I was there last week....you'll love it.
Thanks for your help
Governer's Beach is between Larnaca and Limassol.
Not seen anything re them being hired out as holiday lets.
If you are thinking of the summer months you may need tinfoil and a turkey baster.

if you look on google there is lots of info regarding caravan sites including a new one in Coral Bay called Fegarri park homes.
As the poster above mention another caravan park, but I have never seen it myself, as for staying in one you would need to be mad, have you any idea just how hot it is here, it would be a pressure cooker..
I saw a caravan park on the Latchi coast. I was told it might be some kind of hippy commune?? If that takes your fancy. But as Jim says, a caravan in the heat of Cyprus you would be fried!!
I hate blackpool "
"Also as it's my first holiday there( we've always gone to spain, etc ) are there any major differences i need to know about? "
Cyprus is nothing like Blackpool nor Benidorm(spanish blackpool) dont get me wrong I went to Benidorm with my son as a single parent and loved it, even went back a few months later on my own(couldnt believe Id go on holiday on my own, single at the time and being on the best side of thirty ,having most mates withn no money to go abroad or heavily tied down to partners not allowing them to go away ) but that is like blackpool cyprus isnt, it feels safe, no lucky lucky men , a few ticket touts at harbour (english) aviod at all costs , but you feel safe walkin the streets at night not like some places abroad like tenerife playa de las americas, prostitutes, drugs openly sold in the bars, pickpockets, lucky lucky men,i was robbed there pickpocketed while walkin out of pub and took a flight a week early to get home nowhere near where i lived just to get back to england this is what i experienced and is not meant to be a view of all the resort(hope that covers any legal side) going back to cyprus for the third time this year in August love it!
I am sure you will find enough to do at night's if not a taxi ride to Kato Pafos is not that far away, eight kilometers or so, you have a few villages near by that have traditional tavernas, I do recommend you find these, I also recommend the Peyia taverna just a short ride towards those mountains, about two kilometers, do not listen to all you read Coral Bay is a nice resort for a holiday, I lived near by for three years and loved the place, I still go up there at least twice a week, in fact I am on my way in an hour..
have a good stay.
