300TL will get you 120 pints of Efes in the Buffalo bar in Icmeler @ 2.50TL a pint.

The price of a holiday for a family of four has doubled in near enough 4 years,it is verging on extortion that some bars in some resorts will charge 7.5 lire for a large soft drink, two children guzzling pop in 40+degrees is going to work out very very expensive, and i know for a fact that a lot of places buy large bottles of coke, sprite, fanta, from the local migros/tansas/kippa!!!!!!how can this be justified you cant blame tax increases!!!!!granted some bars will offer drinks at a lower price but that limits your holiday.a round of drinks working on an efes costing 3.5 lire and cokes being 3 is 5 pounds for four drinks.I have no issue with the price rises i stay with family and dont spend like a tourist i cant afford it,but however the season isnt at its peak yet and a few rep friends we know are already getting complaint after complaint that turkey isnt a chaep as they were expecting, people are drawn to turkey this year as it isnt in the euro zone, but with the tipping culture, the strict no food in your rooms rule some hotels are imposing, the phantom drinks that can be added to bills and the general price rises i think it can add up to a more expensive option,so if you are reading this and havent yet travelled to turkey this year brace yourselves
and if turkish kitchens can cook you an adana kebab, chicken shish, pide etc for at least ten lire less than a tourist place and still make a profit doesnt this tell us something,a chicken durum(wrap)in yatagan, inbetween bodrum and mulga is 1.50 lire a coke/ayran the same in resort they are 6/7 very good profit their making there dont you think ,
Steak dinner 20tl
chicken dinner 14 tl
Large efes 3.50 tl
Natalies was the most expensive meal (but the best) at 29tl for the Fillet steak special.
These prices were in restaurants and were cheaper in the fastfood/kiosk places.
We spent £2000 in 2 weeks (2 adults, 2 teenagers & 1 child) eating out everynight (plus drinks) & during the day, waffles round the pool. a few beers in the afternoon plus a few 3am late nights. We also bought clothes etc to bring home & done a boat trip.
I had haircut & pedicure, son had haircut and patterns, hubby had 2 haircuts, 3 shaves & a tatoo.
The prices were slightly higher in the hotel but that wasn't a problem as it was fanastic (Club Aida).
We certainly couldn't get all that in London
Hope this helps
Jo
My lovely Dad-in-law died a few months ago and left us a few quid to have a good holiday.
That's what we intend to do!
We are taking £2,000 for a fortnight, (just 2 of us).
But hopefully we won't need that much.
We've booked up a load of boat trips and excursions with food included,
and we don't drink a lot.
I'm going to eat, drink and be merry, (maybe even drunk sometimes)
All the weight I have lost over the months, getting lovely for my hols,
I intend to enjoy re-gaining.
I'll look like this on the way home but hey, who cares????
Also stayed in Marmaris recently and didn't find that prices had risen dramatically. Most restaurants were happy to give kids ice-creams or cocktails free at the end of the meal and all gave bread with garlic butter free at the start of the meal so we didn't always order starters. Meal deals were great value, particularly at the Sweet Corner where they also gave 2 for 1 on all alcoholic drinkis except Efes which was only 3.5TL for a large bottle anyway. We could get a full Scottish breakfast for an excellent value 5TL (about £2.50 I think) and that lasted us until dinner with maybe a wee cooked potato late afternoon around the pool at Club Aida. I found that many shopkeepers were less happy to haggle than previously over prices, some being just slightly huffy (and even a bit rude in some instances). Excursions still offer good value for money although the cafe's and restaurants during the stops on jeep safari's and boat trips did over-inflate their prices since they knew you would need to pay it or go hungry/thirsty. Went to Dream Boys in Icmeler (now called Private Bar) and I really don't know how they make any money. We did spend about 420tl for meals for 4 adults and 2 children with drinks for us all night (and we did sink a few, including cocktails and liquer coffees) plus drinks for a further 2 adults and 2 children but they gave us a fruit plate, liquers for adults, ice-creams for kids, kids cocktails free at the end. They also got one of the bar men to drive us back to Marmaris and when we visited the following week they picked us up AND dropped us back off again. The slight increase in prices is still a bargain for that type of turkish hospitality.
When i asked them why they said "everywhere does it!", So in actual fact its "Buy 1 get 1 for 5tl"
just returned from marmaris and I spent appox £220 for week SC. The girls and I went clubbing every night and had dinner out. We aren't big eaters during the day, usually skipping breakfast and having lunch but we did drink alot of alcohol! Last year I spent approx £180 so not much difference as we didn't have a night off the booze this year. My friend is just home from Magluf where she spent close to £800 SC in a week.
Yikes greenshoes. I could spend that much in a day!!!!!!!!
i agree,i genuinely don't know,how some people do it.
She reckons she spent most days out on boat trips for about £12 each, with lunch included,
and bought bread and basic foodstuffs from Azda in Hisaranu.
Boat trips are nice, but I don't think I could spend a whole fortnight on them!!!!
Well it is who you know in these resorts. We don't tend to pay for things when we are out and when we are out we get Turkish price which is alot cheaper than tourist price/
we also get our apartment free too, another good way to save money lol
Prices had gone up in Turkey for this year in resorts, and even more when booking for next year:(
i manage a pub & the amount of money,i turn down is unbelievable.everytime someone says 'one for yourself' i always say, thank you,but i am ok.i am really not comfortable, with taking things off people,so i am happy,to take my own money & spend it
tracy
Even if the amount Greenshoes spent is correct it has still gone up by 22% since last year! ( difference 220-180 )
i did it in reverse lol when i went to magaluf 8 years ago with a group i got that trollied on our first night i couldnt hold anything down for the next three days saved a fourtune!!!!marmaris still seems pretty reasonable in comparison with its neighbour where the prices have risen quite dramatically in some places in my opinion, is sweet corner facing the town hall/courts next to picadilly?i have always wonderd why it is always busy whenever you drive past now i know why.
Yes thats Sweet corner
If you wish to boast about how much you spend on your holidays then please find another forum as the Turkey forum is not like that. We have a great mix of people here, who all have different holidays and spending styles.
Don't see any posts from anyone bragging either.
Chill out girl, we're probably all bit jealous you can get away with spending so little to be honest.
I get the impression that you're young, single, and probably attractive?
Therefore, you probably got a lot of drinks bought for you? (well you did admit it)!
Wherever we go, we end up spending at least £1200 for a fortnight, for 2 of us, and we don't drink much,
we don't buy loads of stuff to bring home, and only eat out once a day, (and we don't get our drinks free).
probably like most of the other posters on here.
Can you honestly hold up your hands and say you would have only spent £220 for the week,
had you bought all your own drinks, accommodation, food e.t.c.
In all fairness, the true cost of your holiday could be double what you spent
if you count all the freebies, (which are paid for at the end of the day, whether by you, or someone else).
So therefore, your account of "the cost of Turkey this year" isn't really a true reflection is it?
