morning all
oh dear does phil know something I don't know, him being a seasoned cruiser, going for an upgrade while I will be languishing in the bowels. (of the ship). still the exercise will be good running up and down all those stairs.vivien
ps. I should have been off cruising the caribbean next month. instead I will just take myself off to bonnie scotland to see my son. going to the med has saved me all those painful jabs so I should be grateful. which I am, and still hoping everybody else gets a cruise as well.
Can somebody interpret phils messages .Has he or hasnt he a cruise.??its making me turn t the gin bottle .i am not sure if i am barking or he is there seems to be lots of mixed messages about latest offers and dates .the people who have not found this site and fighting alone must be struggling.on h,t. there is such tremendous support that it must give everyone heart that the elusive cruise wll happen.Who is the next person to go?Istart my day with checking the site its so addictive.ITS LIKE MEETING LOTS OF FRIENDS. CAROL
hello carol
yes phil has a cruise he was originally given melody 10 october but for some reason this was cancelled a few weeks ago. as a result of his visit he has been put back on the same cruise. hope this helps
regards chris
It is worrying that you understand it all with such clarity!!
Perhaps the sight of Phil with Bells in hand, talking like he posts and probably holding up cards with on them made them give him anything he wanted just to be rid of!!!
( I left the windows on the Balconey open all night)
It would appear I have caused confusion amongst the ranks - I am sorry, I do now have a cruise on 10th Oct (no confirmation - in writing, but I have paid - by debit card so that could be classed as confirmatiion well I think so.
I went to Manchester, by train, which was a trip worthy of Hillary and Tensi Sing and the next day on to Timperley, to the offices of MKM (Rise Travel).
The size of the operation astonded me when I went into the offices there must have been 30 + operators all on computors and telephones dealing with calls and travel arangements, Rise travel is not a high street operation, but is a behind the scenes operation. The chap I saw was one of the directors of MKM (a plc listed on the AIM). he accepted that communication was not one of their strong points etc..
After about a 1 hour meeting I was offered my cruise which I had been bounced off, on Jan 27th. When I was first of all offered the cruise I was not offered an upgrade or anything just my £10 cruise.
I was on cruise ships for well over 20yrs (as crew I might add) and so I know only too well the layout etc.. of the ships. so that is why I commented about the upgrade and a £100 cruise would still have been a bargain. a £10 cruise is a steal - but that is the problem for the D.E. and MKM.
I do with complete sincerity say sorry to all those who I have offended or confused with my rantings - but I do try to put a bit of humor into life - perhaps as the coven say (my 3 daughters) I should shut up and just stick to the point - but then life would be boring would it not, I could sing
Any way this is I hope all will accept a way of bringing a bit clarifaction to the situation - and to also let you all, who are still waiting for your cruise do not give up hope - there will be a result for us all, and it also a way of saying thnk you to all who have sent emamils and pms to me. I do consider that we have been through a lot together.
I hope the lawers get through the postings soon and that my pics are also re-instated soon.
I just wish I had have had shares in Distillors before the start of this, as I may have been eligable for a discount.
At least now with my upgrade I do not have to take my spanners with me, more room for the jam butties etc..
p.s. the mince were grand
Byeeee for now

I am aware that this thread often veers off topic. I would ask members to post off topic chat in the Roll Call topics, however I am aware that this isn't an option for those still waiting to confirm their cruise.
I've been quite lenient with the banter as it's what has got many of you through this whole situation and keeps you coming back. However I would ask you to try to remain on topic as much as possible
Luci
I'm confused about the purpose of this 'thread'. It's not clear to me exactly what the 'topic' is we should be sticking to. When the original DE £10.00 Cruise Offer forum was pulled members had no where to go and this thread has sprung up, without any real structure or guidelines, from the announcement by Van (see page 1). Further, the legal issues / restrictions have resulted in guarded non specific postings, which must look very quirky to people coming here for the first time.
Maybe it would be better if a new, officially listed, forum could be set up for 'Travel Promotions' and under that the various offers (Cruise / Flights etc) listed as topics. Each topic can have a number of threads as demand dictates - they just need to have a simple statement at the start setting out their purpose. e.g.
Daily Express £10 Cruise
> Tips on how to get a Cruise
> General discussion & latest news
> Roll Call(s)
> Who going where
> Banter & Drivel
Thanks for the suggestion Wallecan. To clarify, the topic is anything related to the Daily Express/Rise Travel offer, provided it is within the guidelines posted on page 2 by Glynis.
no need to worry.my 3 year old grandson wanted to know what i was laughing at when i read your post. both you and phil make me laugh.
as i am on the same 10 oct cruise i was interested in the outcome of phil's visit incase the same thing happened to me and vivien however it looks as if we are safe.
regards chris.
Sorry to keep on this subject but how much did Phils cruise costas it does not seem to show on my screen. If the cost is £10 then Rise will have a stampede because everyone is entitled to the same treatment, so take your tents and camp on there door.
I think some of the discrepancies may be connected to flights. Though I am going to Genoa on 4th July on the same 6 am flight at Tony, Thomas and Lilac Labrador, I am flying back two hours later than them. This will unfortunately mean I have to spend more time in the bar at the airport as I suspect we will all be on the same transfer from Milan, but I guess I can put up with it.
I can't really see that what Phil paid is of concern to the rest of us: the fare to Timperley, plus the hotel, whisky and the cost of his time is probably much more than the price of a suppement anyway.
Don't forget that the point is for the DE to make up some circulation in its battle with the Daily Mail. Presumably, a price of £100 was considered too high.
An interesting angle re circulation figures. If the number of applicants was 40,000 as Phil said he had been told , I wonder how many of them were like myself and my friend who normally don't buy a daily paper and specifically purchased the DE for the Cruise offer. Couldn't tell you now how much a copy is each day, but if you multiply 40,000 by35 (number of tokens) it equals 1,400,000 potential extra sales! H.
Re your figures, like you I bought the DE specifically for the tokens. I have not bought it since, so 35 copies x an average say 50p equals £17.50 ( I hope!). Add £10 = £27.50. I'm not an economist but that must result in a hefty net loss for the DE after paying for the cruise.
http://www.holidaytruths.co.uk/viewtopic.php?t=15228 it made interesting reading and really all I can say is, don't let your guard down when on holiday, wherever you are.
Dizzy
Just to put the matter stright, well as stright as an Irish Mile
I paid £150 for my upgrade cabin + £85 to Virgin trains (for the trip to M/cr which took 6 and a half hours and we finished up on a coach I wish John Major had have been on that train - ye Gods he would have felt my boot) plus £4.50 X 2 (for two days travel to Timperley on a rover ticket for the bus and metro, very good value). plus £30 for a night out at the Quadrant pub in Gorse hill (there was an offer if anyone wanted to join me & and my kin) and then on to the Railway in Urmston and finishing at the Melville in Stretford. Then £65 for a second night out in Manchester finishing in China town.
Thursday night stayed in, Antie Beryl insisted - I'm sure there is a throw back to my dear Mother in the coven (very bossy) as being with A.B. and hearing her voice I'm sure the leader of the coven was there in the room.
Any way to get back on to the topic (I can hear Luci expelling air through her teeth in frustration at my ramblings) Sorry
In todays post came confirmation of my Cruise as well as details of the 6am flight, check in is 4am at the latest. No problem as I have a few mates that live close by so I'm O.k. I hope
Off the ding dong tonight , as I'm in the Post Office tomorrow. It is a shame that people have to be dictated to by the faceless wonders in Whitehall, re the pension books. could start another thread
Must get to Boots tomorrow, had no chance today.
Byeeee

:pele In the haste and excitement I forgot to tell you that i had an email from MKM/Rise travel today and will explain later - well tomorrow,:pele :pele
Maybe no ding dong - BUT no Horlicks either, before any of you ask - should go the way of Fishermans friend and Marmite stright down the loo
Bye for now
Phil Morris
Haven't been here for a few days - had to look back 6 pages already!
Well, I agree you must have had all the jabs you need - certainly all you want! I do remember having a sore arm when they gave us our Cholera Yellow Fever and TAB jabs the day before we went on foreign draft leave!
On the boyf front, p'raps you should get him to use his air miles and smuggle him aboard as a stowaway!
Don't know if I'm any closer to my cruise yet - I haven't been offered a cheque yet, and every day is a day closer to the 6 - 8 weeks before a travel rep contacts me, so I suppose thats good news! And anyway, having chatted to you a bit, I'm excited for you, and it makes me feel I will get one eventually!
Bye for now. John
dizzy - I've just read your link about Naples. I had heard you need to be on your guard, but you do anywhere these days. Prague is particularly bad for pickpockets. We only have 5 hours in Naples so I'm planning to go on one of the organized excursions to Pompeii and then I don't suppose there will be much time for looking round Naples itself.
I'm sure you have many more pics of your fabulous cruise, and thanks for sharing some of them with us.
Cheers! John(71!)
