I don't really understand this. With a confirmed booking, the agent would, at the time of booking, make a reservation with the travel company itself. A reservation number would be issued and I assume the agent would pass a deposit over.
Does this mean that none of our bookings are confirmed in reality because there hasn't been liaison/confirmation with MSC?
I don't think this is the case and I am wondering if perhaps with Lavender L's booking if there has been a breakdown in communication somewhere along the way and a misunderstanding of the situation has occured. After all, it seems strange that all the Louis cruises were cancelled bar one. It seems unlikely that a confirmed booking would be cancelled now for the reason given as Louis cruise haven't been accepting Rise Express offer customers for a long time.
I'm not disputing what you are saying LL, but have you considered that maybe it was never what you thought it was in the first place? Many of us have thought we've got what we haven't along the way and it all boils down to bad customer relations and inconsistencies.

I went onto NCL website after booking and put in my reservation number and my details were on there right away, so I think the cruise companies must liase right away.
When you think about it, that is the only true confirmation any of us have!
As my travel agent is Rise and we are not supposed to phone them, the old "catch 22" comes into effect.
Any ideas on how absolute cruise booking confirmation can be obtained?
The Alitalia flight even shows the price they paid, so that must be sealed and delivered.......... surely nobody in their right mind would pay for air tickets without the cruise being solid?
Not in their right mind, anyway
my original cruise with louis was booked by rise . I was told that louis were refusing to accept the original block bookings made by rise but a couple of phone calls from rise ensured my booking on the libya cruise.
i have during the course of the evening fished out the original paperwork i received cofirming this booking and it clearly gives ba flight details and the cruise itinary from marseille. it is most definatly a confirmed booking.
I had at the time of booking also prebooked an excursion to leptis magda ,this also appeared on the cofirmation details. the reason for me benignly accepting this late cancelation is that i am getting a brilliant deal so there is no mystery there...jackie
Just as an incidental...is it possible for Van or Luci to update us on the legal situation?

Yep, I`ve got one of those as well from my original "offer" which I admit, I thought was a confirmed booking! I only realised it was not going to happen because of the HT discussions.....as far as communication from Rise, they have never cancelled it. Theoretically, I`m still going to Libya in June.......except I`m not!
It Just goes to show that you can`t believe everything you read these days!
I just hope that the word gets around non-HT people that the Louis cruises were never going to happen or there will be a lot of unhappily surprised people turning up at an `airport near you` in the very near future.
Perhaps there are quite a few who came on to HT months ago, got "sorted" as they thought, then didn`t keep up to speed on developments.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Good Evening
Just thought I'djoin you on this thread, just had a phone call from Paul at Rise a "courtesy call" to tell me my planned cruise Oct 10th has a problem,
Has any one else been booked on this 'Cruise'
I can recommened a balcony cruise I know of it only costs a bottle of Bells per night
Phil Morris
If I remember correctly there was a problem with double booking on his flight.
Lavenderlill(y) was also a confirmed booking. Jackie was 'allocated' a Louis cruise in September but was 'booked' for 23 April as a special due to her wanting what had been allocated.
Seems my cruise has also got problems. Had an email from Rise today saying to contact them ASAP as Ryanair have rescheduled the flights times
Nothing on this offer is certain.
Peter
This is quite worrying. If confirmed flights mean nothing, have our details not been passed over to MSC? Presumably in LL's case that has only just been done and it was then that this problem with Louis appeared.
Well, with confirmed & paid for flights on Alitalia, I`m up for a week in Milan at the very least!!
Yes I think once flights are "ticketed" like Tonys, then you're pretty "safe" unless the flight gets cancelled by the airline, but that has nothing to do with Rise.
Hi Alii, you are very fortunate in being able to log on to NCL and confirm everything. Unfortunately we do not have this facility on MSC!
I am not going to stress out over endless possibilities of cancellations. Like Tony said, we have our flights and I love Italy, have never been to Genoa, so would make the most of any disaster (like missing the ship sail!!!). The possiblility of things which could go wrong are endless.....
Phil's was a confirmed booking
a "courtesy call" to tell me my planned cruise Oct 10th has a problem,
Phil just said `planned` in your quote, was it really confirmed?
I think the issue here is that many people (including me, I will add) believed that the original paperwork for the Libya and other cruises were "confirmations". They certainly gave the appearance of being a detailed confirmation: Flight times and itineraries do look pretty conclusive.
In the end, they meant absolutely nothing........Louis never dealt with Rise in this offer, even though it was in print in the DE......all well covered by previous HT topic and the statements made by Louis Cruises disassociating themselves from the offer.
So, the more recent RE-allocations which have been CONFIRMED can have their flight allocation checked online.
As yet, I have not found a way of confirming with MSC that a cruise is booked in my name on the relevant date.
I`m not saying that it isn`t, just that, unlike the flights, I cannot check that to put my mind at rest. I have printed off the flight booking number
and e-ticket details.
I would be a happier bunny if I could do the same with the MSC cruise.
By this token, anyone who thought they had a "confirmed" cruise from the first round of broken promises either:
1. Really did have a confirmed cruise but had it "unconfirmed"....not usual in the travel industry.
or
2. Never had a confirmed cruise at all, but were led to believe they had.
There are no other possibilities. If No.1 option is true, then what do we "confirmed" people really have in our hands which could not yet be taken away just as easily.
This is why I am pressing the point......for our current status.
Phew!
TonyW
Gosh Tony, Even I'm exhausted by that!
But do you get what I mean about the implications which spring from a truly confirmed booking being withdtrawn?
I certainly do Tony!
Correct answer...........otherwise I`d just have to go through it all again.............but slower the second time with little words!

Which original paperwork do you mean? The paperwork sent in October? Mine certainly didn't look like an absolute confirmation. I've fished it out, it says it an allocation and "all cruise and flight allocations are subjuct to availability and in the unlikely event of your allocated holiday not being available at the time of booking....." Did I receive different to everyone else? If mine had been unavailable to book, I wouldn't have called it a cancellation as such.
I`m going to let someone elso have a go....but will have another look at my Libya cruise stuff again tomorrow.....later today....and let you know what I have.
Phil......got any of that ding-dong spare? I just might start drinking soon!
