when i came to goa there was only local dentists here, and they are very good, i had all my treatment done, root channal, and a crown fillings etc that is still prefect to this day, and the bill was rps3,000have a check up every 6 months and that costs rps100. again everyone has jumped on the band wagon and know they can make lots of money from tourists and there are so many dentists operating during the season you are spoilt for choice but they all throw themselves at you saying they are cheaper/better etc, my advice is either find out who the local dentists are or recommendations from other people failing that forget it its not much of a saving if you are in pain or need to have all your treatment redone when back at home.Once again they are only out to make money from you.
Has anyone had teeth whitening carried out whilst in Goa. If so I'd like to know if anyone can recommend anywhere and what the experience was like. I'd also like any horror stories too please.
Cheers Mazzy
My husband had his whitened in Goa about 4 years ago and was very pleased witht he result. They had been done about 5 weeks before we left and his mother noticed straight away. Can't remember how much it cost but it wasn't alot.
i went to ambert pimenta, the results were really good, i think it was about £180 jane
Jane, where is ambert pimenta??
he is in calangute, next door to the 2 pac pub
Teeth did look whiter, but not the 'American' white smikle but perhaps that may be a bit scarey. I did not find it too uncomfortable or painful, slightly sensative for about 30 seconds during one of the 3 20 minute applications. However, a friend had hers whitened in Jan 2008 (not at same place so not sure if Zoom or Brite Smile) and her teeth were too sensitive and she had to ask them to stop! Thankfully they refused to charge her. Her boyfriend had his done too and was very pleased with the results.
Unfortunaely if you keep drinking coffee, tea, red wine etc the effect won't last.
Would I have it done again? Yes.
the brite smile has a low bleach content so is not as harmful to your teeth as the zoom. dr ambert explains everything fully when you go in. we went for the britesmile as it was less harmful but it dosen't whiten your teeth as much the zoom. I had mine done almost two years ago and there still a lot whiter now...
also if you book with dr ambert make sure you tell him you got his details from this forum he gives you a discount on your treatment!!!
Good Luck!
I had a nightmare at Britesmile as he uses trainees and it was not pleasant. Do a search for my holiday report and you will read what happened. Would not put my worst enemy through it. He is also twice the price of everyone else, Try Marigold in Sinquerim my OH had a bit of treatment there a bit dear but good, Britesmile was dear but cr*p. IMO
I wouldnt go to anyone but sonya Gaunekar Naik she is brill, and has done all my teeth including an implant she is tucked away behind Lawande supermarket in the new apartments and everything is absolutely spotless she is very professional gentle, and really cares about you, her email is soniya_gaunekar@yahoo.co.in We have used her for years and i highly recommend her...her hubby is a great gynacolagist too!!! PS she also knows me as chilly as everyone does in Goa in case she asks where you got her email !!
Whereabouts is the surgery ? Calangute? Candolim etc

Thanks Mazzy
Chilly
Now you can buy Crest Whitestrips on Ebay.....they cost about £25 quid.
You apply them for 30mins a time over 7 days and the results are just as good as i received in Goa.
Google them and see. There are 3 strengths with varying % of hydrogen peroxide. I used Premium, which is 10%...there's a 6.5% and a 12.5% i think?
You can't buy them in the shops, so i make no claim as to whether they're approved in the UK !
I've used Sonja before, last year couldn't get an appointment will use the e-mail address if thats ok to book prior to our visit this year. Haven't had my teeth whitened but filled, cleaned and 1 removed on one occasion. She is very gentle. jan x

Chilly, we will give your dentist a try this time. We will tell her you recommended her. Went to Ambert Pimenta last year but wasn't that impressed. Not that he did anything wrong, we both had only clean and polish but didn't feel he was right for us somehow. I got the feeling he gets so much busines now he doesn't really have to try. We went to a fantastic dentist in Kerala 2 years ago who really made us feel comfortable and explained everything to us, he was the best dentist I have ever had and now I compare everyone to him. I had consultation, crown, clean and polish all for £33. For the same treatment in England I had been quoted over £600 so the money I saved paid for my holiday.

That's very kind of you Chilly. Thank you for your help. We don't arrive until 13 December and are there for 3 weeks so will pm you before we come out if we have been unable to get in touch with her. Thanks once again for your help. Hope we meet up with you anyway when we come over.
