I assume they are 2-pin but are the spokey things round or flat?
Sorry if i've baffled anyone with all my technical wording
Hi Del, like your technical knowlege there!! Take the adapters designed for the US and you will be ok. The voltage is lower though so my hairdryer only blew out cold air, luckily the hotel had a good one in the room anyway. You can get voltage adapters, we bought one in Playa Dorada but wasnt overly chuffed with it. Spent the week with mainly frizzy hair - thank god its short!
Seen some replies elsewhere but nothing on dominican republic. Are they the american flat 2 pin or european 2 round pin?
cheers in advance
Ellie
just checked on ask jeeves and they said its
I'm going to the DR in a week and I've bought the 2 flat pin adaptor but I've also been told that the round pin can work in some hotels..........
flat pin are the best to take...if you buy them in asda they are 1.97 each and they distinctly state for usa and caribbean use...its worth noting that if anyone is taking a battery charger that they dont charge fully and a travel kettle will take forever to boil on the power outage their
There is one I've seen that works anywhere in the world, so it should cover you for whichever type your hotel has. Try ifsogo.com as they tend to have stuff like that.
Just bought a plug in for the mossies today but noticed its a round 2 pin plug. What do i need to be able to use it in dominican republic? Ive seen a adapter for flat 2 pin to uk plug that will take round pins is this ok?
I would be inclined to take the USA adapter with you (flat pin and earth
Check the operating voltage of any chargers you take with you. Someone I know forgot and when it didn't work I put my glasses on and found that it was only 240v and not autosensing! Meanwhile it took a wasted trip across the atlantic and I still ended up having to buy batteries!
Are you able to use a standard travel plug in the dom rep, I have been told they do not work very well
yeah they are really easy to get hold of aswell boots sell them
I am going to the gran ventana in June this year,
Last year in cuba, the mosquitos where quite bad, we took some tee tree oil and deet, but my mum still got bitten, can anyone reccomend anything?
Also, what plugs do they use? The round or flat ones?
Thanks :-)

Anyone tell me what kind of plug adaptors i will need to use my electrical items (UK) over in the dom rep?
There was one in the bathroom and we had to unplug the floor lamp by the window for electricity in the room itself. The sockets for the TV and fridge were all encased behind the furniture. Make sure your applience is 110 volts though as I only assumed this and got it wrong!
You are in line for a great holiday.
Will my hair straighteners work in the Dominican I see they use a lower voltage power than us here in the UK. Is it just a case of buying an adaptor plug before I go
