When you're all packed and organized but still have a couple of days to go.
I have NEVER ever been in that position!
I hate it when, some people are holiday snobs and think that their holiday and the way they holiday is better than yours.
oooh, Miss Pink, you are a one!! Quite agree with you though.
Agree with you both. Our choice of holiday is a personal thing, though sometimes dictated by financial constraints. It's a good thing we aren't all alike,
the inspiration of this comes from another post.

Why is it 'snobbish' when making decisions about holidays to take into account the effect that tourism and the way tourists spend their money has on local communities? We're probably going to get told off for going off topic here too but I try to live my live on basic ethical principles that are very important to me and that includes my holidays. That's not to say that other people aren't at liberty to base their lives on a different set of beliefs and values - they are and I would support their right to do so but that doesn't mean that I have to be silent about my own. A significant number of businesses in the small town I live in depend heavily on the visitor trade - they wouldn't survive on just local custom alone. If the AI system ever became dominant here with very few visitors ever spending money outside of their hotel it could be disastrous for the local economy - especially in the current economic climate. So I 'do as I would be done by' - I want visitors here to spend money for the wellbeing of the whole town - so I do that when I visit other places. I have just as much right to make that decision as those who do choose AI and to explain as part of a discussion about AI why I think that way, as others have to disagree with me and explain why they take the decisions they do.
And incidentally, 'inspired by another post' on the thread alluded to above, yes, I do support an international charity via both my own donations and a volunteer fundraising role alongside the local organiser and a national charity close to my heart with a regular donation, as well as local charities in my area both financially and in kind, including giving a considerable amount of time on a voluntary basis to a local women's project that can only survive with the help of volunteers who subscribe to the charities aims and objectives. Why are people assumed to self-serving and not interested in helping others? I'm sure that I'm not alone in doing what I do, charities in this country rely very heavily on a large number of volunteers, so why the cynical assumption in asking the question with the implication that the expected reply would be in the negative?
SM
SMA very happy to discuss this further if you start another thread
Very happy to do just that, miss Pink.
Excellent, keep it general I think lots of people would like to have their opinion on this too.
You'll see that I've just posted a new topic on 'The Ethics of Tourism' on this forum.
had a quick glance and can't see it?
At this moment (13.41 on 18/08/09) it's immediately following on from this thread!
