Travelling to the UK from outside the European Union (EU)
When travelling from a non-EU country (including the Canary Islands, the Channel islands and Gibraltar) you can bring the following into the UK for your own use without paying UK tax or duty:
200 cigarettes; or 100 cigarillos; or 50 cigars; or 250g of tobacco
60cc of perfume
2 litres of still table wine
250cc of eau de toilette
1 litre of spirits or strong liqueurs over 22 per cent volume; or 2 litres of fortified wine*, sparkling wine or other liqueurs *such as port or sherry and
£145 worth of all other goods including gifts and souvenirs.
If you have any more than these allowances you must declare the goods in the red channel or use the red point phone. If you do not, you are breaking the law and we may prosecute you.
If you are under 17 you cannot have the tobacco and alcohol allowances.
You are entitled to these allowances only if you travel with the goods and do not sell them.
If you bring in something worth more than the limit of £145, you must pay charges on the full value, not just the value above £145.
You and anyone you are travelling with cannot pool your individual allowances to bring in an item worth more than the limit. You will have to pay charges on the full value of the item.
If you are bringing back any duty-free or tax-free goods you bought when you left the UK, these count as part of your allowance.
If you also have tobacco or alcohol goods that you bought in an EU country (other than tobacco products over the limit for imports from that country) you will not have to pay any more duty or tax on these so long as:
they are for your own use and
you can show, if we ask you to, that you have paid duty and tax in an EU country, for example by producing the receipt.
If you are bringing your personal belongings or your car into the UK from outside the EU, see Notice 3. Bringing your belongings and private motor vehicle into the UK from outside the EC.
Air transfers. If you arrive by air and are transferring to a flight to another EU country, at the transfer point you need only declare goods in your hand baggage. You do not declare your hold baggage until you collect it at your final destination.
The same usually applies if you are transferring to a UK domestic flight. But in some cases we must clear both your hand luggage and hold baggage at the transfer airport. The airline will tell you when this is necessary.
Me thinks jbrookes is winding us up!
is there a limit of what you cn take into turkey, as I was going to buy my cigarettes at the airport when I land
Hi Chrissy, We always buy our cigs on the plane its cheaper, but if you want to bring some back as well, get both lots on the way out as sometimes they are sold out on the plane. Also are you still going to the Peagasos Palace on the 29th from Birmigham, we are also buying 2 bottles of spirits 1 bottle of Bacardi and 1 bottle of Malibu to drink at the hotel. See you thier
Is there a good choice of wine available?
will there be anywhere open for cold drinks for the kids at this time
Thanks
Dalaman is open 24/7 during the season, so the duty free will be open. Id advise taking drinks with you, you will be paying well over the odds at Dalaman(check out the Dalaman airport thread re prices). What I usually do is take small bottles of frozen water with me from home. By time I hit Dalaman they are ready to drink
Travel on October 14th will it still be open 24/7 ?
While the package companies are still flying you into Dalaman - its open Think it closes end of October/first week of November. However there are now plans for it to open on certain dates during the winter months due to demand from property owners. Dont know if they will be offering full facilities at those times
Hi belligham , yes still going to PP on 29th, I smoke Menthol cigs and always have problems getting them, its a bit mad but I end up taking a load with me just in case. anyway see you there next week, not long now!
get your duty free on arrival at dalaman? most definately!!
Cigs sligthly cheaper in the Duty Free
Gatwick airport duty free -
Any comments appreciated.
Both the Plane and Dalaman are cheaper then gatwick. On the plane this year it was 400 fags for £22, gatwick was £35
Dalaman ıs cheaper than the UK. But ıt's always worth browsıng ın the UK Aırports for specıal offers. As someone saıd, you can pıck up 2 lıtre bottles of bacardı or scotch for 15 quıd sometımes. You don't have all the rıgmaroll of carryıng ıt on the plane ıf you buy ın Dalaman though.
Cıgarettes (even ın the aırport at Dalaman) can sometımes be copıes so that's a chance you take. But they are mıles cheaper. And you can buy as much booze as you want ın Dalaman once you arrıve. A lıtre bottle of spırıt (Bells,Gordons etc) ıs about 10 pounds. They may ask for 12 pounds but offer 10 and they'll normally accept ıt.
By the way, Dalaman ıs open every day of the year. It's only charter flıghts that stop flyıng between November and Aprıl. Turkısh Aırlınes fly out of Dalaman every day throughout the wınter but usually they only go to the UK vıa Istanbul.
Hope you have a good holıday, zambuca
Sorry but its me again. I have asked on other topics which is best? How long do we have in Dalaman airport to purchase duty free? also, Will it be cheaper to buy our ciggies and tobacco fron Dalaman airport or Manchester? We have never been to Turkey before and when we went to Spain it was just a rush going to customs and to get on the coach!! I do hope you can help. Thank you. Anna xxxxxxxxxxxx
on the way home only buy from the duty free at Dalaman - never buy them in turkey as many of them are fake. loads of duty free shops in dalaman departure area most of the prices appear the same and are cheap you can probably haggle a little here but not much but watch the exchange rate if they quote you in english and you pay by credit card as they will convert it to T/L at a poor exchange rate. if you have english money pay in that if they quote you in english which they prob will if not get them to show you on their calculator how they have worked out the exchange rate. same applies on your way in as you will be more vulnarable .
hope that helps
lyn
ps you will have plenty of time on your way home but on the way in maybe one of you collect the baggage and the other one duty free. if not stay calm im sure the coach will wait im sure everyone does the same.

oooooh!!! I feel so sorry for you having to go to Dalaman Airport ... you will know what I mean once you try to return home!!! Anyway you put your cases through when you eventually get in the airport then you go straight through to Duty Free - you can spend as much time as you want until they call for you to go to Departure. Hope this helps.
Thank you Lyn. I just thought once you got off the it was a case of dashing to the cases and coach. I have no intensions of buying ciggies and tobacco in the resorts. Take care and be happy Anna. xxxxxxxxxx
hi can anyone tell me how many ciggies can we get going to turkey i know its only 200 coming home but wasnt sure on how many we can get arriving
