Duty free on way TO/BACK from Turkey?

well if they do we didnt get stopped last year when we went in August!!!

my hubby smokes about 1½ packs of golden virginia a week and he bought enough on the way in to last him until we go this year!!!!

we had layers of tobacco in our case

You are only allowed 200 ciggies back into the UK as Turkey is not a EU country.

Your cases are not being scanned in Turkey for ciggies its anti terrorist measures at Dalaman as it is an Airforce Base. The Turkish dont really care how much you buy.

Cases were being scanned at Edinburgh Airport when we arrived back last Saturday so beware if you bring in extra

It was'nt everyones cases some were being scanned and others were being checked by Customs Officers. I dont think it was only shifty people that were being stopped :lol:

folk just being picked at ramdon.
Its the first time I have seen customs there in the past few years there have not been anyone there on our return.

Remember customs officers read HT as well :wink:

On the subject of ciggies. People were stopped when we took the day trip over to Rhodes !!! You are only allowed 200 ciggies and a litre of spirits when you come back. A young couple with a small baby were stopped and all their bags ripped open. I don't know what hapened to them but, they were NOT allowed back to Icmeler on the coach. Seemed they kept them there. Coming back from Turkey through Manchester Airport last year - ALL cases were scanned at customs.

Duty Free

Hi Mitchell, We get ciggies on way out on plane as sometimes they have a tendency to run out for the return trip. There are usually some good deals to be had. We also do the same with booze, though I must confess this is for consumption in resort !!

hi arriving at the new airport @ dalaman about 4am on a tuesday morning would anyone know if the duty free shops will be open

I returned on tues from dalaman and we were there all nite and all the shops were opened..but this was flying out not coming in but i should think the same applies..hope this helps

beware though- they're not like they used to be - they will scan your passport and only let you buy your limit - we were only allowed 8 packs of tabacco (400g)

thanks was that going in or coming out ? we were there in april and they were very hot on any cigs you bought in the town as you had not paid duty but once at their duty free shop coming home it was no prob.

We returned on tuesday and although we didnt buy any duty free there were signs as you walked in saying that there were no restrictions on how much you could buy...nicole

Hmm... I got stopped at Gatwick customs last Monday evening and they took the lot off me. Even the duty free i bought at Gatwick. Got a nice official warning notice as well.
I wont be taking my chances again, wouldnt mind but it is the first time i overloaded (1600 cigs) and hubby had Golden virginia they sold us at Gatwick going out,
They took THE LOT.
Good time to be giving up smoking me thinks

PLEASE be aware of what you bring back in to Turkey when you visit Rhodes!!!!!!! We went there in May and on return to Marmaris a young couple with a baby were stopped at Marmaris. They MUST have had far too much in their hand luggage and were NOT allowed to return to Icmeler on the bus!! No idea what happened to them. I would always go by what ever limit there is, NO NEED to be greedy. Bye Anna xxxxxxxxxxxx

Hi Nicole,
I actually flew in from Izmir, they asked where i had flown from and had i any cigarettes in my cases.
I had to own up, they were all in our hand luggage,but they also searched all of our suitcases.I also got a written warning on HM Customs official paper (not nice!)Found again then it could be a 7 year jail sentence!! OMG
This is now getting a regular occurrence from Turkish flights as i understand it. Needless to say i wont be doing it again in October when i go again.
