Just posting this to set the ball rolling for the 60 plus passengers kidnapped from Lanzarote on Thursday 1/9/05 and sent to Tenerife until the early hours of this morning 3/9/05.
Check in desks closed for flight number XLA221V and EUK221V (same flight) with approx 60 passangers not checked in. Reason given replacement airplane had insuffiecient seats for booked passengers.
No explanation of passenger rights or compensation given.
Advised by ACE handling our only options were stay in Lanzarote for at least a week for another flight or fly to tenerife and catch an alternative flight guarenteed for the next day 1400hrs with Hotel accom in tenerife for the night. Flight from Tenerife to Man quoted EUK237V This was delayed by more than 12 hours eventually got back to Manchester on flight XLA053 or XLA237V. The total delay time from original flight time not far short 36 hours for some. Advice and support appreciated on how to proceed on progressing compensation with Airline and information on what the issues were as communication was as always in these cases a combination of half truths misinformation and untruths. There were Over 700 passengers on excel flights affected in tenerife with delays of around 12 hours and the information provided was non existant
We arrived at Tenerife airport yesterday for flight no EUK 237V which was scheduled to fly at 13.50. When we looked at the board it was showing a ten hour delay, we needed to be home quite quickly so we decided to see if we could buy an earlier flight which we did, at a cost of 150 euros each . I would be interested to know what other people did and how they were treated by the airline and what compensation they were offered if any. We are going to try to claim the cost of the flights from the airline but i dont know if we will succeed. By the way the plane we flew home on had a lot of empty seats.
Booking a replacement flight is within your rights; providing the delay is longer than (4 hours I think for Tenerife) you are at liberty to request a refund for the flight cost. This must be refunded within 7 days - again EC261/2004 rules.

I saw this one coming. EUK237V was shown on Manchester Airport's real-time flight system as delayed by 6+ hours earlier today (see my previous posting).
When are people going to wise-up to the activities of Excel - they are a taking the mickey. These delays are not unusual, they are the norm.....check the facts - I have, and will continue to do so, posting here on this site.
