gemmybear83,

If you check-in with plenty of time to spare, ie at least 2 hours prior to departure, then it's unlikely you'll get spit up. It's only when you arrive late at check-in and the aircraft is getting full that you risk getting split it. When travelling as a couple, you are normally ok. It's when you are travelling as a family or group that pre-booking is useful, for peace of mind more than anything. I believe Alzo Zilli meals (from Thomsonfly) will be on the menu from May. More information here.

So do FC allocate the seats upon check in then?

Is that for both star class & star class premier

Thanks in advance :)

xdaniellex,

As far as I'm aware, SCP seating is allocated based on booking order. eg if you were first to book, you'll be seated at the front, if you were last then you'll be at the back. The economy section is allocated at check-in on a first come, first served basis unless you have pre-booked seating.

Short haul is slightly different in that those with meals booked will be allocated seats at the front, other passengers towards the rear.

We were originally travelling to Mexico in October with TCX and had booked the first row of 2 seats at the back of the cabin as I don't like sitting next to strangers (horrendous experience on a previous long haul flight!). We have had to change the holiday and are now travelling with First Choice. As the hotel is a Premier Luxury, we already have pre-allocated seats. From what I understand the seating will be 2-3-2. Is there any way we can ensure getting a window seat? We will be travelling from Gatwick and checking in the night before.

cazzholly,

Seating is pre-allocated when you pre-book and can't be changed once allocated. Are you travelling as a couple? If so, it's likely you'll get a pair of outboard seats but obviously this isn't gauranteed. The aircaft are indeed configured 2-3-2. There isn't really any way of ensuring a window seat. It might be worth giving them a call to request one, can't do any harm.

Thanks for the prompt reply Darren. We will be travelling as a couple so I guess I just need to hope we will be allocated seats at the window. As the seating is 2-3-2 though, even if we are allocated 'central' seats, I suppose I could always nab the aisle seat!

A few more questions

* We have pre-booked our seats for our flight to Florida {I'm guessing seats are 2-3-2} from manchester on 11th may {3 weeks today} when would I be able to find out what our seat numbers will be?. We did request window seats but I now know that it isn't 100% that we will get them.

* Is there anyway I can find out what the inflight movie's will be ?

* And finally I will be taking my son's liquid epilepsy medication on board as hand luggage with me {it's too important to risk losing it in the other bagage}, its over 100ml do I need to advise first choice before we fly about this?

Thanks very much

LyndseyJ,

You'll get your seat numbers when you check-in. Someone who has flown with FCA recently may be abe to help with movies as they don't list them anymore. You don't need to advise FCA about the medication, but make sure you take any medical documentation you have with you and the original packaging / labels if you have them so you can show security what it is. They may confiscate it otherwise.

Isn't there anyway I can find out what our seat numbers are before check in ? Is it worth calling them?

How long before a flight do they allocate the pre-booked seats with seat numbers?

Thanks x

LyndseyJ,

Not with FCA there isn't. You can call and request seats if want, but there are no gaurantees. They'll make a note of your request but you'll not be able to find out until you check-in. I think it's 2-3 days prior to the flight that pre-booked seats are allocated.

Hi, Just thought i'd mention that FC will be using the Thomsonfly seating system from May 1st so it wont be first come first served as far as seatings concerned in economy - the majority of all seats will be pre allocated. Check in agents as always will always try to help where ever possible.

Oh and reasonably good news (no major surprise though) the ex Thomsonfly long haul 767's will be the first to go, with only 2 remaining for summer 2009, what routes they will be doing, no one knows. so that will be 6 ex First choice and 2 ex Thomsonfly.
I can hazard a guess the Thomsonfly 767's will be doing routes such as Puerto plata and Cancun. There will be one based in Manchester and one based In Gatwick. With the ex first Choice aircraft all based at NCL,BHX,BRS,EMA,GLA,LGW,MAN.

Does that mean I can call Thomsonfly and reserve my seat, although my booking (and flight to Aruba) is with FCA in SCP?

No, as it will still be a first choice aircraft and holiday you will be going on. It is going to be a difficult transition period this summer. For the time being you will still follow first choice's seating rules however the bulk of the work for the check in agents/catering companies will be done by Thomsonfly's support department in luton.

The check in agent can still shift some people around, they will have a certain level of discretion but not the "blank canvass" they once had. - this system ensures the people who have requested/paid to sit together/extra leg room/window seats etc..

does those new rules apply for first choice's SCP on longhaul or just economy?

all flights

short haul/long haul premium and economy.

There not rules as such, I didnt explain myself properly. Just a new way of seating people. Basically it wont be a circus/free for all come check in and the majority of seats and parties will already be preseated.

ok thanks, is that alloated on booking or few days before the flight?!

Sorry for the questions! Just we booked SCP last october for our holiday which is taking place this september so thought we would have a good chance of getting put together and hopeully a window seat because we booked so early.

I remember that when we went on holiday to Goa in March 2007, we booked our SCP upgrade when we booked the holiday in March 2006, however, we still had middle seats. That obviously wasn't early enough, however, when we booked our SCP upgrade and holiday to Goa in October last year for December 2007, we had a window and aisle seat. I think on that occasion we were just lucky.
