Fromy own experience, my training was pretty poor!! The reason I applied for the job was that I thoroughly enjoy researching my own holidays and broadening my experience from sites like this.
I was basically stuck in a corner for 3 days with a "manual" to read on things like airport codes and a little Geography. Fortunately one of the young girls took me under their wing and started to get me involved in other things.
I only stuck at the job for less than a year as I absolutely hated the pressure to sell, chasing every enquiry and even cold calling customers who had booked 5 years ago asking if they would like to book again. I think the sad thing is now many customers just use the TA as a reference bank and then go off and book on line. You also get Customers (I had 2 in my short time I was there) who were forever phoning/calling wanting a price for Florida on such a date, when you phoned them back with the price they would then ask for Mexico for a different day, you would give them that then they would ask for Cuba now for a different party number and so on and so on. One of these Customers used to phone every week with a different destination, different date and never booked. It was a complete and utter waste of all our time.
The trouble is with multiple Travel Agents these days like first choice, they want Damm good sales people who can make the cold calls, chasing, closing the sale etc yet pay them a very low wage for their efforts. Even the commission is laughable for a sales job.
So you end up employing the lowest calibre of "Sales Staff" and try and mould them into perfect sales people! These guys then only focus on getting their sales to make the extra few quid to support their insulting basic wage rather then recommending whats right for the customer! And thats where the customer service side of things then lack as per the previous threads.
All the travel agents are the same and its difficult to find school leavers or people with the passion us older more experienced people have.
So I agree, whilst we continue to employ uninterested robots (as thats all we can get!) , travel agents will suffer even more. And at a time the internet is taking over, we could well do without that - but really there isnt a solution to the problem and I guess in some shops, untrained, uninterested staff will remain!
me again....have since spoke to head office and they have waived the fee. just sorting out late checkout now, first choice not got he availabilty but can do it direct through the hotel.
I always book last minute for cheaper hols, but now they mention new price exclusions if you are booking a holiday within 100 days of departure.
It states that prices exclude fuel supplements (30 to 65 quid per head)
also it excludes air passenger duty (10 to 80 quid per head)amongst other things.
So will you have to now guess what your holiday is really gonna cost you?
I am suprised they have decided to do this, is this some TUI inititive at work?
Everything has always been included in the price given with First Choice until now.
For a large family this will add on 150 in fuel supplements at the min quote
and also 50 air passenger duty at the minimum quote.Total 200 extra minimum!
Have i read it right?
It looks like I read it wrong that info only applies to certain offers advertised on that page and the whole price is detailed in the total holiday price page still!
Was a bit worried for a minute when I read that info!
Im sure they like confusing you.
Mind you it was a bit late and my batteries were running low.
Sorry first choice!!

I'd give them a call to ask. I've had problems paying for flights online (the website just froze on the payments page when using a switch/maestro card) and I've ended up having to phone them to confirm the booking and pay which costs an extra £5. I've never had a problem booking and paying for holidays though.
Darren
I have just emailed our local Travel Agent who we have used for 20+yrs to check the price on the same holiday offered to me on the web by First Choice with 800 pounds ( sorry no pound sign on this key board) saving She has just sent back the Same holiday and the saving was 213 Pounds.booking First Choice online to her price.???????. Still a saving but nowhere near what First Choice would have me belive.
I also don't have a pound sign on my keyboard I use Alt + 0163 (on the right hand numerical keys) this usually does the trick.
Just look forward to your holiday and live like millionaires for a few weeks.
Then come back to reality......
The key board I am using is English ( American)& Arabic, tried your suggestion sorry didnt work.
Qatarman
we should have flown back at 15.50pm monday, the coach collecting us at 11.30am
at 11.10am i received a phone call at the apartments from firstchoice saying there wasnt a plane availableto get us home, and they were moving us to marmaris.....
i very politlty refused the offer, and said we would stay where we were, and we would pay to get ourselves to the airport ( the apartment owner said this was ok)
10/10 to firstchoice, the lady said ok, she would keep me updated, and fax a voucher for food and drink over.......
this time there customer service was very good,! well done!
