Well, back to feeling unsure about First Choice again. Just looked at the last review for my chosen hotel on tripadvisor and reviewer was not best pleased, 3 days before she was due to go on holiday First Choice informed her the hotel was double booked and gave her a hotel further away from Rhodes Town in a place called Ixia.
Now as this hotel is the only hotel First Choice have in Rhodes Town I do not want to be put in this position, as Rhodes Town is the only place on the island I want to be based.
Can anyone tell me if I was put in this awful position would I be able to get a full refund from First Choice, bearing in mind with only a couple of days to the holiday they would be left with 2 empty plane seats !!
yes they would have to give you a full refund as it is there flaut not yours.
My son came back from Gambia last Tuesday night. Unfortunately, the trolley case had been damaged (dent knocked into handle covers so not possible to pull out the handle). On arrival at Bristol he was given a form with a phone number and I phoned Wednesday evening. I had to give the dimensions of bag (they had all other information) and the girl said, 'OK the new case will be with you Friday'. Must say I was astonished - there were absolutely no probing questions or debate whether the bag was useable. The girl was very polite and courteous.
The case arrived late morning on Friday - that surely is very good service.
We are very pleased with case - same size and good quality (5 year guarantee).
Well done, First Choice.
So my question is should I still book immediatly or wait until around Christmas time when the prices always seem to be alot lower ?
I don't think there will be any problem with availability as we holiday out of season.
Thanks in advance
We usually book our long haul holidays with First Choice, but trying to book the Maldives has come out about £1000 more expensive than if we book with Kuoni flying scheduled from Heathrow (3 miles from where we live). I called FC/Eclipse & they said it's because their flight supplements have gone up!
An update on my post above. We've booked through Hayes & Jarvis now (part of First Choice) even cheaper than Kuoni AND First Choice. Flying scheduled from Heathrow and a room upgrade!!!
Wonder if someone could ansa a quick question.
Im flying out to Orlando Sanford from Manchester on Saturday morning (flight FCA118). Ive seen on the Manchester airport website that the plane will be a 757. Is this correct as I was rather looking forward to going on the larger 767 (first time on long haul flight and always wanted to go on the bigger plane. Bit childish really)
Thanx
Matt

Hi all, I booked up with First Choice last week for a week in Turkey not till september. FC added their own insurance and when I noticed on the screen I said I did not want it as I always book my own independantly, the FC operator said we had to by law, I still refused and made her take it off. ( I usually book every year with Thomas Cook this is the first time I have gone with FC and TC have been fine that I book my insurance elsewhere). So today I get a call from FC stating I must supply my insurance details to them asap or they will be adding their own insurance. Can anyone let me know if this is correct surely I don't need to provide them with my Insurance details, they are confidential, I am fully insured as is all of my family we take out a yearly Insurance cover for mulitrips throughout the year. thanks
They will only need the Company, Policy No and sometimes the Emergency Assist telephone number.

Hi thanks, have telephoned them with the details.
Can anyone tell me what your weight allowance is for First Choice... just booked on Travel Republic but it doesnt actually give you those details. I hope its not like Thomas COok with a mean 15kg!!!!
I think it's normally 20kg unless it's a premier holiday and then its usually 23kg.
Yippee... 20 more kgs than last year between us!!!
It also depends where you're travelling to. When we went to Mexico we had 30kg each.

The maximum permissable is now 23kg, even for premium passengers.
Darren
I know First Choice had this rule re 23kg max last year, do you know if Thomas Cook and Thomson etc have followed suit? Also I presume there is nothing to stop you taking two cases making a total of 30kgs per person if you are travelling Premium?
Denny
This isn't really the thread to discuss TCX's allowances, but they have a standard allowance of 15kg upgradable to 20kg at a premium. Premium passengers have up to 30kg but depends on your booking. TOM allow a combined baggage allowance of up to 25kg for economy passengers (comprising of up to 20kg hold and up to 10kg hand) and up to 35kg combined for premium passengers (up to 30kg hold and up to 10kg hand). FCA is likely to adopt TOM's baggage allowances under the merger. You'd have to check if they'll allow 2 peices of checked luggage. It was ok the last time I travelled and took my diving equipment in a second case, but that was a pre-booked extra allowance. I'll be doing the same a week on friday but I have 46kg allowance with Bmi!!
Darren
Sorry Darren, didn't make myself clear..... As FC have a rule on not taking a case weighing more than 23kg. If you have a premium allowance with FC are you allowed to take 2 cases per person totalling the 30kg allowance?
No, the allowance is max. 23kg per passenger. Anything over that will be liable for excess charges. That was introduced in April 2007 I think it was. Any case over 23kg will be refused travel. There is a way around it if you are a qualified diver; pre-book an extra 10kg of allwance FOC but you need to produce your qualification card at check-in!
