I dont understand them letting you book an exit seat for her in the first place, the FCA rules are that exit row passengers must be adults phisicaly fit and able to operate the exit doors in an emergency,
in some respects the worrying thing about this rule is ... i have been in exit seats many times over the years, and on only one airline was i ever asked if i knew how to operate them or offer instructions in how to..

That probably means then that they are launching a new website pretty soon and they currently are having problems with it, i would expect it was due to launch a couple of weeks ago but hopefully it might be on soon.

So its probably that they wont be spending money on putting the holidays on the old website.

This is all just a guess though, but one of the biggest clues is that Hayes and Jarvis have just had a redesign.

It depends on the aircraft type. Long Haul aircraft such as 767s you need to be 20 or over as the doors are heavier and there isn't always one crew member for each door.

Does anyone know how much First Choice charge for extra baggage allowance? Or do I have to book through Thomsons now? We are flying on 26th Juen to Sharm from manchester and we need to book the diving equipment in as extra baggage. Thomsons usually do it for about £30 return.

Is there a number anywhere for First Choice where I can book extra baggage?

Many thanks in advance for any help.
Val.

Justval,

If you've booked with First Choice, then you need to book through them. Off the top of my head, excess is charged at £6 / kg. I was going to post the link to the baggage charges on their website but it seems like it's down at the moment. I think they're updating the site so it might be down for that. I'll try again later. Did you know you are entitled for 10kg of free allowance for diving equipment? It's one of the reasons I use FCA when I can. All you need to do is call them to pre-book it. Refer to my post to scubadiver99 on the First Choice Airways thread.

Thanks Darren. There are actually 3 of us..so Rob has a big bag with all the BCD's etc in which is always over 20kg and me and Gav always have the clothes and everythign else divided between us. This is why we always book extra...some airlines like Thomsons actually let you book a "sports baggage" which is what we put the dive stuff under. He carries the regs and stuff as part of his hand luggage.

I will try and contact them later to see how I do..would rather pay in advance than be stung at the check in desk.

Justval,

I was just going to update my post but you beat me to it!! FCA's new website is up and running and I must say it's looking great :tup This is the section on the carrage of sports equipment. Why pay to take it when you can have the allowance for free? I just take an extra bag with me with my diving gear in.

I am so annoyed with first choice website not showing 2009 summer holidays. :que
Going to have to book with someone else because I am sure in the present climate 2nd issue holiday brochure are going to show big price increases.

Have loved been able to pay for eclispe/first choice via the their website in recent years and that was the mane reason I was hanging on to book with them again :(

Hi knitter,

I agree I have been so used to checking their prices on the net for the last few years, I went out and got a brochure yesterday and while its nice to look at I haven't got a clue how to work out the prices from it without going to sit in a travel agents.

i have the brochure doe, and looked and priced up a holiday.....roughly.....

went in the first choice travel shop and it came out, £400 cheaper than i had worked out.......wished the web site had been up and running as i may have got it even cheaper.......

but, i booked it, and am pleased with what i paid....

Brilliant, I am glad you got something, sounds like a good deal.

I wondered about working out a few prices on paper and then assuming that I would get between 5 and 10 % off. Is that what your 400 worked out as a percentage or is it more? I really need to work out where I am going first though. :rofl
Ive been on holiday about 5 times booking through Eclipse/FC and I did like them they always had a good choice of holidays, came up at competative prices most of the time and the web-site was so easy to use. Also the accommodation was almost always as it was described and pictured in the brochures.

hya doe,

we are off to turkey.....this year with first choice its costing me just under £1600.....

next year, same place, same airport, etc.....£1100....

i priced the brochure up, got it too about £1500 for 2009.....

then went in first choice shop and asked for a price.....but then found out i had to pay £17.50 luggage allowance per person for an extra 5kg.....i was not amused as at the back of the brochure it says 20kg, with 2 exceptions.....

so nice lady waived the extra baggage allownace.....so i booked there and then.....

never thourght to come home and phone them direct, as its usually a rip off number.......and wasnt going to wait for eclipse, as its not going to be around next summer.....

good luck!

first choice 2009 summer, are now online.......although changed quite a bit, i couldnt get to change room options.....quite nice tho....

I did like it as it was, it does look nice as always but it is very long winded now, it was very quick before.
Also im not impressed that they have removed the room numbers , coz i use that to see how many are left at anytime as a tool so I know they were going to go down in price if you know what i mean ;)
Also my usual FCA flight has a Thomson fly code now. Maybe i'll have to keep popping in a store now and asking how many rooms there is, I'll say its coz im having a big wedding and need to check there will be enough rooms or some other white lie! He he.
Im terrible I know.

It does tell you how many rooms are left, click on more room options underneath the room options, strange i know, and it lists them all, usually there is more than what are available.

The new booking system is only in use for next year and personally i think it is very good now.

Thomsonfly is just a working name for the new airline to be launched later this year.

Bunny, I have always found these 'rooms available' to be inaccurate anyway. There were always 9 double rooms left from when I booked the holiday before Xmas until the day we left!! When we got to the hotel it was fully booked all season! Denny
