hi.
your apartments a a few minuets walk from both the beach and main area of Protaras whilst in that area a visit to the view point over the now deserted Ammochoustos is worth a few hrs.

Have been to Cyprus before, first time in Protaras this year! Sounds lovely from what I've read. Can anyone tell me any information about any excursions that are worth doing? i.e. the boat trip to view Famagusta, diving at Cape Greco? Where's best to book these?
Also, never been to Paphos before, will be hiring a car for a few days, any idea how long it would take to drive there (leaving about 10am?)
Also going to drive to Limassol for an evening to visit old friends and bars, I guess that's about an hour or so driving time? We visited Protaras for a day and evening when we stayed last and that's why we chose it this time.
Fly out on 6th July for 2 weeks, staying in the Sunrise Beach, which also looks fab!!

we've alredy had this question today if you look down the links for one headed First Time
I think from Protaras to Phaphos it is about 3 hours, I am planning the drive my self, I will be on hls in Protatras and a cousin of mine will be getting marriedin Paphos so thought I would make the trek sto see the wedding and the other side of the Island t the same time. Will be a long day but thats what holidays are all about.
If you are hiring a car drive up to Cape Greko, really secluded and you can climb down some of the rocks and go for a swim, great for cooling off at the end of the day.
Never done it myslef but planning the Jeep safari, sounds like good fun.
Have a great hliday - I don't go until 31 August - already wanting to pack
Fi Fi - thanks for the info, I think it's definitely worth the trip to see the other side of the island. It also gives a chance to check out the other west coast resorts, which is good. The jeep safari does sound good, we might have tol give that a go too.
Only 1 week to go now - cannot wait!! Hope yours comes around quickly for you!
you may wish to allow yourself a bit longer i have done that run several times and know the way it takes about 31/3 hrs depending on traffic..and watch your speed on the motorways the local law is getting verry hot on motorist thease days

Thanks for the tip Brian, I am a bit of a freak at being early and leaving plenty of time so I will give myself 4 hours I think, as you say it all depends on the trafiic, and as I don't really know where I am going - just following the road signs - might have to just be extra sure.
Local bus only goes to Ayia Napa or Paralimni.
Boat trips can be picked up on the beach.

Protaras is Fantastic. Dont Miss out on the local boat trips , Jeep Safaries and the Famagusta trip.
If you decide to go on the Famagusta trip dont forget your passport.
Also if youve got time go on the Egypt cruise i think its about £100cyp
per person.
Have a lovely holiday

Have been back one week from my first holiday in Cyprus and have spent most of the time trying to organise the next one! Unfortunatly can not be away from work untill November. Has anyone been to Cyprus in November, would I be better waiting untill March/April or even later.
Hi eli, glad you enjoyed Cyprus that much that you want to go back. I was there in November last year, flew over on 17th Nov to see my son for his birthday on 18th. Stayed three weeks and the weather was mixed. Depends what you are going for, do you want to spend your time sunbathing or do you want to go see the island? If you are going just for the sun then don't go in November. I did come back tanned as I did some sitting in the sun but the days are very short (dark by 5pm) although light very early. Some days were very overcast and very cool. We even had thunderstorms and there was torrential rain the night before I left I would go back in November again but as I say it depends what you are looking to do.
It also depends where abouts you plan to go. A lot of areas in Cyprus are shut up for the winter in November and not very much is open at all.
You'll find Paphos, Limassol and Larnaca pretty much open as normal over winter but summer resorts such as Ayia Napa/Protaras will be virtually shutdown.
Thanks for the speedy responses. I am not much of a sun worshiper so lack of sun is not an issue. I would like to discover more about Cyprus and maybe do some walking. I noticed when I was there that no one walked any where, probably due to the heat. I would prefer to go back to the Paralimini area but wondered if there would be any where open to eat.
I'm a 32 female going to Coral Bay In August with my 10yr old Daughter and mi mum
My first time ever to Cyprus and just hoping someone can advise us girlies on the best places to go...
We are staying in a villa (Within walking distance) of Coral Bay ...
"Queens Paradise Development"
and would love to know the best beach to take my daughter to,
and also any friendly taverns in the evening to go to* (*Please note i don't want to know about clubbing)
Just want to know about nice places to take children out to in the evening for a few drinks and maybe a meal and a bit of fun.
Also us 3 went to Lanzarote last year and personally found the people "Locals" a bit arrogant I've heard the Cypriots are a lot more friendlier is this true? I've heard they love the English and that we would recieve a warm welcome.
PS: One more thing, Any good advice/experience on day trips out would be brill thankx
Appreciate any info anyone can give me on this subject i know its a lot to ask, but I can't really look forward to it until i know a bit more of what we can do and where we can go.
Thankx for taking the time to reply if you do
Kels x
Paralimni itself will be open as it's a more residential place than the tourist areas like Protaras, Pernera or Ayia Napa.
You will always find somewhere to eat. Whilst many of the bars etc in the tourist areas are closed for the winter, we have never had difficulty finding open ones. We went in both December last year and Feb this year without a problem eating etc.
Hope this helps

We spent 3 weeks in Paralimni at Christmas, the weather was mixed some days very hot , long shorts and strappy tops, some hardy souls swimming in the sea at Ayai Napa. Paralimni , Derynia are resident all the year round and locals still continue with the day to day activities, I love it in the winter. all the hoards of tourists gone and the locals have more time on their hands. We needed really warm clothing at night or on the days when it was cloudy at Christmas it was very cold at night
No problems with places to eat Karas in Kapparris is open all the year round now and you can rent apartments here, a few places to eat around this area. The Wooden Crest is very nice pub. also as you drive up to the Orphanides supermarket, There are a few places staying open in the winter months , more so every year as people take possesion of their properties.
As for walking and cycling this is the season, Ayia Napa is full of Scandanavians on long stay holidays, all out cycling and walking, Ayai Napa has a good few places open around the harbour area and Nissi Avenue, in my opinion this is the best time for seeing the island , We are going 2 nd November for 10 days the weather should be just right and I beleive the sea is still warm at the end of the long hot summer . I shall take a cardi or two and an umbrella just incase of thunder storms. The best thunderstorm ever was when we were up the Troodos one September. you could here the thunder echoing through the mountains. Now I know what they mean when they say its the Gods talking to each other.. Cannot understand why this area does not get promoted for winter holidays from the UK...enjoy

Check out http://www.cypruseastern.com
more for owners and buyers but you can check out bar.s and places to eat on this site,
Whats the weather like in February thinking about going over next year at this time. I dont think the family will be pleased if we sneak away for another Christmas.

Thanks Elizabeth and Ady for the info. I actualy stayed in Paralimini and Kapparis so I would love to go back there. I rented an appartment but wonder if a hotel would be better this time, could you suggest one, something small and friendly.
Weather in February was better than I expected. Ok it did rain a couple of times but only at night, when, I have to add it did drop cold (about 5C). We needed quilts and I put the air-conditioning onto warm until I had purchased one of those gas fire things.
We had a couple of beautiful days as well, you know T Shirt and shorts. Well almost - my mate Paul who was with us was in shorts
I have just checked the photos from that trip and other than a few clouds and VERY choppy water at Cape Greco. It looks good. I thought it was warmer than December - I think we were over a bit before you and we came back on about 18th.
Hmm...might go February next year too. Haven't decided on next years jaunts yet
Oh, sorry Eli almost forgot. Recommendations for where to stay... Captain Karas is open up to the end of November and can be found HERE. I am sure Elizabeth will come back with others, but that's the one I would recommend.
