Flight Only / Airline and Airports

You should be ok, but personally I'd leave a little earlier in case of traffic. You don't want to be stressed arriving at the airport.

Has anyone stayed at the Worth airport hotel in Gatwick. We've booked this with parking for a night before the outbound flight and the night we arrive back. Are there any pubs in the vicinity for a meal or will we have to eat at the hotel. Thanks everyone

Is it the Gatwick Worth Hotel?

If so, it used to be a Best Western. There is a health club next door but not much else. Nearest pub/restaurant is the Hillside pub. It would take about 10 minutes to walk* or a couple of minutes in the car. The hotel does have a restaurant but it's been years since I have eaten in there.

Here is the link to the pub's home page http://www.vintageinn.co.uk/thehillsideinncrawley/

[* not sure I would recommend a walk in the dark but here are the directions. Come out of the hotel car park, turning left going back up the access road. This is parallel with the M23. At the end turn right and walk over the motorway bridge. This is the Turners Hill Road. Walk down here for 6-7 minutes and turn right on tothe Balcome Road. The Hillside pub is down the hill on the right]

It must be the one traveller as there is a Health club next door. From what I read I thought the restaurant would have been very expensive - but I don't think those Best Western are too bad. Thanks for your help.

Helen, it is the Gatwick Worth we're staying at and breakfast is £6.50 for Continental and £9.50 Full English. Think we'd be slightly better off having brekkie at the airport. We could get a taxi into the pub that was mentioned for evening meal.

Just thinking that myself. Although we might have to leave too early to catch brekkie. Our holiday always starts in the airport anyway. I'd prefer that than have to rush and be stressed before we even board.

We can highly recommend Trumbles - http://www.trumbles.co.uk

Very quiet location just 10 minutes from the airport. Breakfast and transfers to and from the airport included. Car parking very reasonable also.

The local b&b's are much better value for money nowadays and most of them can offer family rooms like the bigger hotels.

Hi, we're flying into Punta Cana (Dom Rep) from Gatwick. What terminal will we leave from please?

shirley h,
Depending who you are flying with, Thomas Cook fly from South and Thomson fly from North.

Thanks Angie, we're going with TC. Just want to check out the shops at the terminal, before we go ;)

Are there any nice bookable lounges at Gatwick North?
Preferably kid-free?
I know parents need more of a relax than the rest of us but this is our first holiday for 18 years without our own and I would like the start to be peaceful. Comfy chairs, papers, drinks and snacks with no raised voices or video games going on is what I am looking for.

We use the Aviance Lounge in Gatwick North and have found it to be very quiet and have never seen children in there, which doesn't mean they are not allowed in there. Perhaps it works out expensive for a family of say 4 to go in there.

There are televisions in there, but they are not intrusive and there is always a quiet area to be found.

Hi, we go to cancun on the 18th april and would like to check in our cases the day before, has anyone done this, if so , was it easy to get to and park in short stay and is there a specific desk to go to and how long will it take, we are going from north terminal and have booked extra leg room seats

DebbieCambs,

Day before check-in is quite a popular option, but it's availability depends who you are flying with. You're presumably flying with Thomson Airways? (more details here). It makes the transit through the airport that much easier on the day of travel, especially if your flight is departing mid-morning when the airport is at it's busiest. The disadvantage is having to visit the airport twice; you have to weight up the time saving and whether it's worth it or not. All passengers have to be present to check-in the day before and it takes the same amount of time as it would to check-in on the day. You use the specific 'day before desk' in Zone A (North Terminal).

thanks Dazbo, do you know if its straightforward when driving into the airport short stay, and is the "day before desk" easy to spot, and will there be queues for it?
think it might be best for us to go night before as we fly at 9.15am and it would mean that we could get to the airport around 7 if we have checked in already, rather than 5.30/6.00

DebbieCambs,

That's not something I can answer really as I don't use Gatwick and it's a while since I was last there. That might change in he near future though as I'm running out of places to fly to from Manchester! I don't imagine it'll be difficult though; park in the short stay, nip over to Zone A, check-in then get out of the car park as quick as you can before the parking fees are sky high! Most flights depart before lunch so if you check-in anytime from mid-afternoon onwards, I don't imagine there'll be much or a queue, if any.
