DebbieCambs,
It should be pretty quiet at that time of day.
Darren
ok thanks,
It's called Stanhill Court, It isn't on the airport grounds but about 10-15 minutes away in rush hour. It is in the middle of a little village near Gatwick called Charlwood.
The hotel itself isn't massive and the staff treat everyone as an individual, not a room number. Food is great and you could be forgiven for thinking you are in a sprawling multi hotel chain for choice and standards.
We got a four poster bed room very cheap and this included breakfast and free parking while we were away.
Taxi was £11 each way.
Best hotel I have stayed in for a very long time for service, choice, and character- pure bliss so relaxing and calming before the madness that is Gatwick Airport
thats not the russ hill hotel is it, has it been renamed?
No, this hotel knocks spots off the Russ Hill Hotel! having used both I would rather stop in a tent at the end of the runway than stop at the Russ Hill again.
I no just looked it up, they could'nt be more different if they tried!!
Any ideas on a reasonable connecting interval allowing baggage reclaim, time to transfer on the shuttle and check-in for the second flight. Will 3- 3.5 hours be sufficient?
does anyone know if we use day before check in they will give us our boarding card or do we have to still queue the next morning for them, going to mexico,
Dazbo certainly provide information above regarding Thompson day before check in at the airport and I assume that is what you refer to. He should be able to confirm that a boarding card is issued at that time when he picks this up this thread.
Alsacienne, Assuming that the Easy Jet connection is on time etc, then yeah I should think that you have sufficient time ok and time for a "pint"!
Nivsy
Refer to our previous posts. When you check-in the day before, you'll be given your boarding cards so you don't have to queue on your day of travel. That's the who point of day before check-in; reduce the queing time on the day. You can proceed straight through security to the departure lounge. The exception to this is when travelling to America; they retain boarding cards at the airport and you collect them on the day of travel for security reasons.
Darren
thanks Dazbo, thats why i asked the question as i read that places like usa you pick up your boarding cards next day, and wondered if mexico might be the same with it being longhaul, thanks put my mind at rest will deffo go for it then
How busy is Gatwick North early on in the mornings? We flying Thomson departing at 9.40am. We are staying at the Sofitel but won't be using day before check in as will have to pack in some last minute things in our luggage - just wondering how bad it gets? Will getting into the terminal around 7.30am suffice? (Flying Premium).
Thanks!
Generally, it's pretty busy as it's peak time for many airlines. It depends when you are flying to a certain extent. For example at the moment it's busier than last week because of the easter holidays and from July when the summer holiday season is getting towards it's peak, bedlam! If you are close to the airport and have the oportunity to use the day before check-in facility, it's well worth doing to avoid the queues the morning after. It's not just check-in that can be busy, getting through security can take a while too.
Darren
Cheers Darren. We are going on the 20th. As the hotel is linked to the terminal, we might nip across a little earlier, check in, gauge how busy it is and then go back to our room for a while!
I went through North terminal the other day at 9.30am. The check-in area for BA was PACKED. There must have been over 2000 people waiting in the two areas designated "Bag Drop". Never seen it so busy. It seems even if you check-in on line you still face the potential of a long wait to drop off your luggage.
It used to be called 'fast bag drop' - now just 'bag drop'.
Does anyone know if they are still supplying the clear security plastic bags free of charge at Gatwick please, haven't flown since feb this year & they were then, but I have read some airports are going to be charging for them!
I can buy some if ness.
Thanks all.
If they do charge, just buy a roll of sandwich bags from the supermarket, down the foil /clingfilm aisle.
Hi,
Yes they do still give them out at Gatwick - but isn't it simpler to get some from the supermarket in advance?
