I feel I need to bring to the attention of potential travellers and regular visitors to Goa this news,
Two dear friends who have lived in Goa for many years have died within a month of each other from Hepititas B which is contracted through blood/fluids either bodily or by needles.
Both these men had been in a hosptial in Mapusa for various reasons but both have now died 2 months after receiving injections and angigrams. A goan man has also died from the same Hep B once again after being in this hospital.
There has also been alot of misdiagnosis, one which could have cost a lady her life if she hadnt gone to another hospital for a second opinion, and many other cases are now coming to light.
Please be very careful this hospital will take your money and may take your life !!!
Thank you Poppetjay for this information. We were going to have full health checks done at this hospital next month, but we certainly wont now as some of the checks involve taking blood samples.
Feel all these health checks are just a way of making quick money for these hospitals and some people just did not get the right information of what was wrong or right with them, one guy was told he had a major problem with his heart and offered surgery immediately refused, when returning to the UK was told he had a slight heart murmer nothing major, another woman had scans and they missed a tumor 2 months later she needed major surgery all which could have been avoided, and her husband died 2 months after the check of Hep B.
thats a few i know off, also they appear to be uping the Bill big time if you are insured hence premuims will go up heavily in months to come.
Please just be very careful dont be fooled by getting these checks or going to a nice new hospital if sick the smaller ones though rough looking appear to be alot better for your health and your pocket.

I'm afraid I'd have to take issue with the previous post. I know of seven people including myself that all had health checks done at the Vrandem Hospital at Mapsa. We were all symptom free when we had the checks. One person was found to have a life threatening abdominal aneurism, three others had dangereously high blood pressure, and I had some heart problems that I was unaware of The people concerned all had their diagnosises confirmed on return to the UK and all were placed on treatment. In the case of the Aneurism it was a life threatening condition. So I certainly, in my experience, would not rubbish the tests out of hand.

If you think the hospitals in Goa are so good, why did you feel the need for confirmation in a UK hospital?
As for the Hepatitis B - when travelling, we always carry our own "First Aid Sterile Set" which includes a set of 6 needles and syringes, plus some silk suture and a needle.
These sterile sets are available from Lifesystems Ltd, PO Box 30, Ware, Herts, SG9 0SF
Or online at http://www.gapyeartravelstore.com/Mini-Travel-Sterile-Set-p-344.html
or also at http://www.rohan.co.uk/ProductDetails.aspx?pid=00769&cid=AccessoriesMedical&language=en-GB
I would have thought it would be obvious, that any treatment required for any diagnosis given whilst on a two or three week vacation, would be administered by ones own GP on ones return to the UK, and this would require ones GP checking the findings.
Thank you however, Max13biker for your usual tactfull input on this subject, and your invaluable suggestions on this matter.
