this is hilarious it shows what dump the place is

Sorry to disillusion you but it only serves to show what the TV producers wanted to show... and given they only showed the inside of a bar it could have been in any large resort in the world

Oh and of course not forgetting your own particular prejudices.

and the people it attracts,

and that last staement speaks volumes.......

i have never been to tenerife, but know of many who have and they say it is beautiful-just like the vast majority of spain and the islands if you get away from the neon lit ''strips''. i watched the program last night and to be honest, i think the whole thing was just a montage of editing, put together in such a way that would portray both families in an equally unflattering light. you will always meet people in every resort in the med and beyond who's main aim is to oblitorate their senses with a cocktail of vodka red bull and duty free cigs, and there is nothing wrong with that if that is how you choose to enjoy your holiday-as long as it does not affect others around you trying to enjoy theres. what i objected to was the teenage kids (the girl looked about 13  ) being encouraged to almost match their parents drink for drink to the point of the son being absolutely incapacited, and the fact that they were so god damn loud with it. and if my parents had sworn in that way in my company in public when i was still at home and holidaying with them, i would not have laughed with them as those 2 did, i would have been mortified... :(

I have taped this and will watch it later today.

However, i fully expect it to be a complete whitewash. I have been holidaying on Tenerife for years and love the place.

These programmes tend to be good cop / bad cop, and it would appear that the 'bad cops' are the lager louts going to Tenerife. I am sure that you get this sort of behaviour all over the place (and it's not just the british)

Ho hum, but I suppose that those of us that know and love the place will take it with a pinc (ton!) of salt

Anyway, it certainly isn't going to put me off and I am already counting the dates down till September when I head off again....

I love the place so much I moved here

Holiday Showdown is for enternainment purposes only {if you can call it that} Although I didn't see last nights programme I have watched it previously and they even made a 7 star resort in Dubai look bad. As AndrewL says, it should be taken with a bucket load of salt. For those of us that travel to or live in Tenerife we know the truth, well perhaps with the exception of one who shall remain nameless.

Some friends of mine participated in 'Holiday Showdown' and it hasn't been aired as yet, for the pure reason the 'producers' were provoking the families into hating each other, and this plan backfired because the families actually loved the holidays and got on very well.

You are right. These sort of programmes are designed to get people at loggerheads with each other because the producers think it is good viewing. This is slightly :offtop but of the same concept. A couple of years ago my husband did some work at Channel 4 studios, they were in the process of auditioning families for the European series of Wife Swap. Like a plank my husband got roped into our family being auditioned. It was a Sunday afternoon that two people from channel 4 came to our house armed with microphones and video cameras. To cut a long story short we didn't get chosen because we were 'too normal'. The kids were playing a board game when they arrived and they thought it had been set up. Basically they wanted a 'wife' who spent all her time in the beauty salon having hair, nails and waxing done, and when she wasn't in there she was either lunching with girlfriends or shopping doled up to the nines with full make up on, and kids that did what they wanted when they wanted. When the programme aired it was a swap with a German wife who did absolutely everything for her husband and kids, and spent little or no time on herself. So you can see why these families that are paired up are complete opposites a majority of the time, to cause conflict.

This TV programme would not be a success if the families were all friendly and enjoyed each others holidays. They need the provocation hence their pairing up of totally contrasting families all the time. They hit the bullseye with these two families. The Wilsons were totally staid boring people who would not have enjoyed anyone elses holiday no matter where it was. And the Kents well words cannot correctly describe these prehistoric creatures.

Does anyone know what pub they were in, to make sure I never ever go there by mistake

It doesnt matter. Just find out which pub they are in and find one as far away as possible. Cirrhosis is the only way forward for these morons.

What I find hard to believe is that in the credits thanks was given to the Arona Tourist Office for their help

Well, I watched it today, or rather tried to, it was so cringe making. Mind you if they had put similar families together there would have been no 'fun'!! in it for viewers. They picked two complete opposites, and it was unfortunate they chose that family for the Tenerfie lovers, making it appear that everyone who went was like that. Had they shown another family, who wanted more from a holiday than drinking, it would have been very different. I love Tenerife, and never go to the places they went.(Not even Aqualand - who even the other family thoroughly enjoyed) Still it takes all sorts and the world would be a sad place if we all liked the same things and went to the same place.

Ho hum....

I thought that too Kate :?:

but then they wouldnt have known what the edited content would be until it was too late I guess. They say there is no such thing as BAD publicity but that must have come close..... very close.

OK folks I think this has had a fair enough airing and I'm going to close this now as it is after midnight.

Thanks to all who made their views known.

The "bar" was not a bar by the way. It was a show called Decades with an all inclusive drinks entry. Not bad for a one off let your hair down night.

We tried it once a few years ago It was OK but wouldnt go back. Theres so much else to see and do.

As someone else said it wouldnt do for us all to like the same thing.
