There is a small kids pool where inflatables are allowed-this is not very deep at all.
The large pool is lovely and shelves in slowly, but goes to about just under 5 foot in the middle. Inflatables are NOT allowed in the big pool, as a safety reason.
I feel its the parents duty to watch there kids, but we saw the same thing when we were there-kids doing what they wanted with no adult supervision.
On the other hand, kids can give you the slip.........it only takes a second.
Livy, i hope the child is ok........is your friend having a good time?

I wonder if that incident took place in in-door pool. We had a very close call with our son (in in-door pool). He didnt have armbands on because he was doing swimming lessons. If it wasnt for me jumping in after him (fully dressed with mobile phone money etc). I hate to think what may have happended. I didnt blame the swimming intructor. She turned her back and he thought he could swim. He did continue with lessons but I would have not let him do them in the in-door pool. I dont think it is suitable for anyone whom cannot swim. Maybe he was too young for the lessons (was only 3 and half) In saying that the swim kids was fantastic and I intend for him to do them again when we go next july.
I hope the child in question is ok and its nothing serious.

i did not let my kids use the indoor pool as it was very deep, and seemed to have stupid bigger kids acting daft in there.
In June when we were there the swim instructor had walked out so they got a young lad in from lanzerote to do the lessons. He seemed good but was a bit abrupt in the way he spoke to the little ones sometimes......
I feel its the parents responsibility to watch there kids, but accidents do and can happen............Glad you were there to get your little one, and he was safe. xx

You are right the indoor pool is very deep and also while we were there at least there wasnt a a life-guard. There was a receptionist who didnt have a full view of the pool (unless he was using CCTV cameras).

No, there was no lifeguard at the indoor pool when we were there in June, and there seemed to be loads of kids about unsupervised, but this was mainly at night time...........when are you going in 2006?

I am not 100% sure of this - but I was told the child was taken away in an ambulance in a poor state - but you know how rumours are. My son was only three and a half when we were there but you have to keep your eye on them constantly. Yes there are lifeguards at the big pool but how can they watch all those people it is totally impossible as for the indoor pool - there is a disaster waiting to happen - when we were there it was unmanned bar the receptionist who was busy doing something! And lots of kids playing about while parents used jacuzzi - as parents we have to be totally responsible for our kids and look out for them - I know we go on holiday to chill but we can't blame someone else if something happens.

I agree with you. Let us know if there is any update on the child.

We have some friends who are going self catering to the HP next week and they asked us where the best places to eat are - any suggestions? We were AI last year so couldnt really give any advice.

We were talking to some guests at a bar in Carvajal (10-15 mins walk from HV) and they were self catering. They said that the buffet at the HV was 18 euros per person (12 euros for children), drinks were expensive, bread at the on-site shop was 3 euros a loaf! Perhaps going AI is a better option!

Anyway, if your friends walk down to Carvajal, the chiringuito on the beach does excellent fish dishes and a little further along there are a few restaurants. If they walk a little further along the seafront into Torreblanca there are many restuarants and bars to choose from.

I am not sure that guests at the HP can go AI. Maybe I am wrong.

When we were at the HV, i thourght people staying at the HP were self catering only.
Not sure wether they could upgrade and pay to eat/drink at the HV, if anyone wants to do this i would email both hotels to check.
I think it was around 26-29 euros a day to upgrade to AI at the HV, but it does say somewhere if you go back a few pages.

I see there has been another hotel review that addresses the problem of the "extras" being charged, and also the poor entertainment so cheesey. If I have to listen to "Amarillo" "Let me entertain you" and the "Court of King Caracticus" one more time I'll go mad! I was under the impression that we would have varied entertainment, but absolutely no this has all be pared to the bone to maximise profits and it shows. Wont be going there again.

Correct, there was an incident with a young boy in the pool the other day, it was very unpleasant and disturbing to witness. It was of no fault of the HV and having witnessed how distressing it was myself I really do not feel it is necessary to be discussing it on this forum.

I am sorry you feel that we should not be discussing this on this forum - but we just want to make parents who are going out to be careful and aware of how easily it is for an accident to happen! Also there is an issue with safety at the indoor pool - there is no lifeguards at a busy indoor pool ! There is an accident waiting to happen - I certainly wasn't glorifying the incident at the HV!

Hi

Ive just got back today from the HV. First of all can i reasure people that the little boy in question is now fine, i was about 10-15' away from the incident and yes he was not wearing arm bands, but i do feel that is the responsability of the parents and not the HV or FC. I saw the boy the next day walking around the pool with his dad wearing arm bands, so no permanent damage done i hope.

Away from that subject now, i think a couple of things that have changed from the time i went last year is the Menu in the Mexican, deffinatly better, give it a try, superb! also when i was there last year in July it was terrible for getting a parasol, not this time, i gave a 25 euro deposit and kept the thing until the last day.... well done HV for sorting that out. All in all it was very much the same as last year, even the entertainment, so ventured to the piano bar or either out to Tivoli or benelmadena, but for those with young kids it really is ideal. Another plus was the drinks in the beach club are now AI too which was a bonus.

One gripe i still have and its the same problem all over is the time in which people get up to place their towels on the sunbeds!! :x i had to go down at about half eight nine o'clock just to make sure i got 3 beds. In fact to tell you how bad it was, when we were leaving this morning it was 7.15am and there was a man going down to put his towels on the beds, for those who dont know, it is still dark then at that time!! how bad is that?

Thats brilliant that you had a good time,
I am so glad they have introduced the parasol thing, as we were there in June and they would not let you rent one, i am glad the HV have listened.
So glad the child is ok,
The sun beds are a nightmare, people seem to drape a towell over them and then disappear till lunchtime. There was 8 of us and we did struggle..... Jo-anne, this site is about information, and giving help to those going to the HV, i know the subject was distressing, but it was relevant, and could just help one child from having the same accident..............xx

Glad the wee fella was ok.
I was in HV last year end of August start of September. We were able to hire parasol's like you we kept it for the 2 weeks found it great for using on the balcony as well. I just hope that when we go next year that they will also have the same system.
We never tried the Mexican or Italian when we were there last year but we will definatly try them next year.
What was the food like in La Perla this year compared to last year ?.
What new things have been added since last year ?.
