We are going school half-term in February. Myself, husband and 2 boys 8 and 9 years old.
We have tried to book a late check out room via First Choice but were told that they have none of their allocation left and to book one when we arrive at the hotel.
Having read previous comments, I have emailed the resort direct to request this.
Do you think I will have any luck ?
Also
What is the best currency to take ?
- I have been advised that staff like to be tipped in pound coins, how accurate is this please ?
- should we take dollars, sterling or Egyptian currency ?
Any advice most welcome !
Thanks
FURTHER TO THE ABOVE - I HAVE JUST HAD AN EMAIL FROM THE HOTEL, 2 HRS AFTER I SENT MINE TO THEM !
IF THE SERVICE AT THE HOTEL IS AS GOOD AS THIS THEN BRING ON THE HOLIDAY !
I have also booked a family room with kids den, they did ask me if I would like to specify a room number so if any one knows a good room or block it would be fab

I would love to know if you had a good room and if so what was the number and block. I have booked a family room for october :}
No point in booking a late check out with first choice as you only need to do it with the hotel 24hrs in advance of your departure. The cost is 2760 EYP (About £30 GBP) for an extension to 5pm which is what we did. There is a shorter extention to 2pm which is 2200 EYP (About £25).
We tipped a cople of times in sterling pounds as we didn't at the time have any small EYP notes. The rest of the time we just used EYP. A tip though is to get your EYP once you are in Egpyt. Even the hotel gave a better rate than I got in the UK and the banks along the road gave an even higher rate.
We stayed in block 6 (room 6102 on the ground floor) which i whought was a great location. Just by the main pool, next to the al a carte restaurant block. I had previously asked for a kids den room with a bath (as some only come with showers and we meeded a bath as we have a 2 yr old) which they arranged perfectly for us - I emailed the hotel 4 days before our arrival.
We came home with an entire suitcase of clean clothes thanks to the hotels unlimited laundry for £20 offer. You can stuff as much as you physically can in a laundry bag (I folded and rolled all of ours) and they will launder and press it all for £20. I had 62 items in my bag (although a lot of 2 yr old clothes included in that). Best £20 I spent.
If you want souveneers and t-shirts go outside of the hotel to buy them. If you go out and turn right, just before you get to the large Metro upermarket (opposite burger king) there is a shop called king Tut's. We got childrens T-shirt which are beautiful quality cotton and have washed really well for 20 EYP (just over £2 each) so we stocked up and our daughter wore a size or 2 larger than usual as beach dresses. Adult sizes were 45 EYP. I asked in the hotel gift shops and childrens T shirts were 50EYP each.
I have already had an email from the hotel direct advising me that I can book my late check with them out the day before we are due to fly home.
I must say that was a fabulous response - very efficiant !
The info about the laundry is also most welcome.
As long as our room is clean and well serviced, we are not too fussy about where it is.
We too have booked a kids den.
Our boys are 8 and 9 so will be in kids club all day and we can relax - well, that is the plan anyway !
I am really looking forward to going now.
If I think of any more questions I will post another message to you.
Thanks again
!
Hi, have you got the email address for the hotel please.
I used
Thanks very much, we are going on on the 8th Feb for 2 weeks, do you know if we will need jumpers at night time? and also for people who have been before can you recommend a room to request thats good for kids, and finally would you sat £1950 for 2 weeks (half term) for 2 adults a child and an infant is a reasonable price?
Who have you booked with ?
We are paying more than this for 1 week !
added later......
I have just looked at the First Choice website
- our party is 2 adults and 2 children so we would be paying more anyway.
I put in the same details but for 2 weeks, going from 7th Feb and coming home on our original date (sunday to sunday same flights)
- there are no family suites available
BUT
we could have a double select room and still pay £400 less than we are paying !
ie 1 week in a family suite (during half term only) - £2880
2 weeks in a double select (the week before and including half term) - £2407
Basically you are getting the first week free and spending money !
Out of curiosity, I then put your date of 8th for 2 weeks
- we could go from a closer airport
- a junior suite is £2790
So still less than we are paying for 1 week !
Now you tell me that families with school age children, who dont take them out of school are not penalised by holiday company's !
I would love to be able to go on holiday in term time but I also work in a school so there is no chance !
No wonder people do take their children out of school.
I am flabbergasted !!!!!
Just wondered if anyone else has stayed in such a room and what we should expect.
Am I right in thinking that people have emailed the hotel direct to request room umbers etc?
See you there in 4 weeks!!
Ive just recosted it it costs £7 more to go for an extra week, how mad is that
- but after we come home as I don't want to ruin the holiday before we even get there !
In your second week, I will be the stressed mum of 2 very lively boys !
It would be lovely to meet up with you and your family.

xx
Im sorry if I upset you about the price that wasnt my intention we hadnt been to egypt before so I was unsure about the price, we have been to 3 othe holiday villages though, they are great.
karen
My beef is with the holiday companies !
I will be with the big kid in the Pompey shirt and the 2 smaller ones in Chelsea ones, so you won't miss us either !
I am really looking forward to going, regardless of what we have paid.
Starting to stray too far can we keep this more focused on HOLIDAY VILLAGE RED SEA
I have just booked to go here in August school holidays so very much looking forward to it. We are staying in a Double Room which sleeps 4.
We have stayed at the Holiday village twice and it is a fab family resort! The double rooms for 4 are huge ,with a lovely big balcony or terrace. They comprise of a bathroom which is sort of split into three areas i.e. toilet, wash basin and a walk in shower/wetroom.In the passageway is a fridge with lots of drinks and chocolate, beware anything taken out is charged to your room on your departure from the hotel and is quite pricey. The hotel had altered the water situation last year so instead of picking up as much bottled water as you wished in the restaurant they decided to leave just one bottle of water each per day in your room which you then had to refill from water dispensers around the hotel.Unfortunately the water in these dispensers as with all the drinks doesn't seem to keep cool the heat is just too much. There is a huge living area/bedroom with a very large bed(as wide as 4 pillows) don't know whether that is Queen size but its much bigger than a kingsize for sure,2 single beds ,a small sofa,a t.v. with quite a few english speaking channels. The air conditioning controls are here too and a large walk in wardrobe/dressing area with a safe. There are a few hangers in the wardrobe but not enough for a family so i always pack more.Large patio doors leading to balcony or terrace with a small table and chairs.Yes you are right people do email the hotel to upgrade and ask for certain room numbers. It's going to be very hot in August be sure to pack lots of sun cream in v.high factors.I'm sure you will have a fab time !we did
Thanks julieb, we are really looking forward to it now.
We are going to Red Sea Holiday village on the 1st Feb for 10 nights and while we are there it will be my 40th Birthday. Can anyone reccomend which are the best al a carte restaurants to eat in as I would like to go somewhere nice for my birthday.
Any other hints and tips would be grateful as this is our first time at this resort and I really want it to be a special holiday. We are in a swim up room and I have already asked to be put in one of the rooms which has the sun on it all day. There is me, my husband and 6 year old going.
Many thanks
Penny
