My son has helped me to post this as I am not very good at computers. I would just like to say how sad I am to see all this bickering about the Hotel Regente and all the one upmanship that is going on in this Forum. Just to put things into perspective my wife and I holidayed here in September but we booked independantly as we are both disabled and we like the bottom rooms. After 4 days my wife was taken into hospital with the bug and as she only recovered slightly the insurance company flew her home by air ambulance back to the UK. She was kept in hospital but weakened so much that she slipped into a coma for two weeks and is only now managing to speak. I have nearly lost my life long partner and have never forgiven myself for taking her on the holiday that may have killed her. I would like everybody on this forum to let this put things into perspective about what is important in life and get back to using this forum for what it's supposed to be used for. SHAME ON YOU ALL!

So sorry to hear about your wife.
Naybe this is what made Thomsons/Regente now act on the bug!
Hope she's better soon!

I am so sorry to hear of your wife's illness and I hope and pray that she recovers very soon and you both enjoy many happy holidays together in Benidorm in the future. God bless!

Hi Devestated

I also got the awful bug when I was in Benidorm at Easter and it took a week for me to recover. I must add I was not staying in the Regente but a hotel further up the road.

I hope your wife soon recovers as this must have been a real worry for you. The staff at the Benidorm Levante hotel are very kind and I am sure if she was in there she would be treated kindly. My husband spent a week there after breaking his ankle and all the staff were very good to him.

I've not got my son helping me with the reply now and I keep forgetting the password. I'd like to say thank you to everybody for their kind comments and to say that my wife has started to moan about the hospital food so she must be feeling better!
If she recovers enough I will take her to the Don Pancho for Christmas. We can't usually afford such an expensive hotel but we went there for our 30th Anniversary and she loved it. I don't care about the expense anymore, money doesn't matter!
Thank you to everybody.

:D Hi all!

So sorry to hear about your wife devastated, and hope she makes a full recovery, as you may know we were suppose to go to this hotel last week, but got upgraded to another hotel because the hotel was going to be shut. (Dont know how long for)?.

We got a taxi transfer, and the taxi driver told us, that he had picked a couple up from the regente, and apparantly the guests who were there had been quarrantined (?), and told not to leave the rooms,(because of this virus/bug), I really don't know if this is true, but we walked past yesterday afternoon, and it was deserted, (No towels, on balcony , or anyone around the pool), - would be interesting to know if anyone else has heard this.

Back tommorow :( so will will speak to you all then!

Bye for now

what a crying shame this used to be our favourite hotel in benidorm

:D Hi chivas,- Yes it is because it is still shut, (well it was yesterday)and they were taking out all the bed linen, towels, soft furnishing's etc.. (Ii'm thinking - to dispose of?),ready for brand new (?).

Still don't know if it is true, about the guests, being quaranteened (spelling?), and confined to the rooms, and balcony's prior to this mass clean up, (can't see the guests too happy about that, ), apparantly they were not offered alternative accommodation, incase this virus/bug, was spread to other hotels (This information came from our taxi driver, who lives in spain, and has taken guests to and from this hotel, weekly)

A little too late in my opinion, but at least something is being done now, which is a blessing!

Regards, belly!

Just returned from the Hotel Regente having spent Christmas and the New Year there.

First of all, most of you know that the hotel was closed in October for a specialist deep cleaning to get rid of the Norwalk virus, which is presently running its infectious cycle, widespread across the UK.

During this time, as well as the deep cleaning, all the bed mattress's, pillows, chairs and the majority of the soft furnishings were destroyed and replaced with new ones.

Contrary to what you may have read on other sites by speculative posters, the hotel decided to take a complete break from customers in November and they decided to use this time without any guests, to make a start on the "face lift" throughout the hotel, Thomson also asked the hotel to perform a second specialist deep cleaning during this time, even though it wasn't necessary"¦..which they did do, to comply with Thomson's request.

The "face lift" consists of replacing the items mentioned above and there are now brand new chairs in the concert room and reception area, the bar has been ripped out and replaced with a modern and very simplistic clean looking area, the stage has been moved from one side of the concert room to the far side, by the door that leads to the sunbathing "decking" area.
All new modern light pine coloured doors have been installed on the toilets and telephone cubicle, all the pillars that hold the hotel upright have been encased in a "brushed silver" effect casing with uplighting.

New light coloured laminated floors have been laid in the concert room, reception, restaurant and they have started on the corridors and the rooms"¦.floor 6 has been completed.
On the way down to the restaurant, new silver/chrome handrails and glass panels have been installed
Finally, the old ceiling to floor glass window on the way down to the restaurant has been replaced with a new one that again has the silver/chrome effect frame, which is very modern and lets so much more light in the place, plus a fresh pale lemon colour has been applied to the walls throughout the hotel.
All the above have lifted the hotel into a bright and a more modern looking place.

Now the important bit"¦"¦
Outside the restaurant doors, fixed on the wall, there are 2 alcohol dispensers (one each side) which automatically dispense a small amount of the alcohol when you put your hand under the sensor"¦.I'm pleased to say that whilst I was there, 99.9% of the people used them as second nature and without any prompting.
I did see the odd :swear walk straight passed them and parents/grandparents who think their kids hands are germ free, but the staff taking note of your room number on entry to the restaurant were also observant, and I did see Antonio ask a man who was going to waltz straight into the restaurant, to use the dispenser.

Finally, under the dispenser is a sign which simply says "It's in your hands

They could have said, "wash your hands or use the dispenser before entering the restaurant", but that simple statement says it all because it is in YOUR hands to help stop this nasty infectious bug from getting hold again.

When I've done the video of the Regente and you compare it to the one I did last year, then you will see the changes that have been made.

Let me make it quite clear to anyone reading this......I have reported back what I know to be true, I don't work for Thomson or Med Playa and quite frankly I detest Thomson and I detest the thought that my report will help them, but my main objective on this forum is to help other holiday makers, just like myself.

Christmas and New Year in the Regente"¦to be continued.

We both had a great holiday in the hotel Regente and the Christmas/New Year gala meals were well presented, hot and delicious, all the staff worked their @ss's off all day long and throughout the holiday period, to please people.
Let me put it this way"¦.I ate more of the gala meals in the Regente, than I had done in previous years, in another well known and more expensive 4 star hotel....just down the road.

Being a hotel with predominantly British guests, the hotel catered for the British palate and it became like one big happy family, which created an atmosphere that only happens once a year.

We had no problems throughout the entire holiday with issues that could be related to tummy upsets or having the poos and it was reassuring (if you needed reassuring) to see the Director bring his entire family including his 2 sons, (one of which is quite young), into the restaurant to share the same gala meals as everybody else.

Most people were on a full board basis and "over indulgence" is a polite way of saying that some people are just plain greedy, how some of them put 3 gigantic cooked meals a day into their stomach's, is just amazing to see  "¦.by the end of the first week, my stomach and guts would have been in revolt, especially if I did what one man did, which was, to put 2 pieces of fish on his plate alongside pieces of beef from the carvery"¦.followed by heaps of chips and veg, then the whole lot was drowned in gravy.

The hotel brought in some decent entertainers for xmas/new year nights and one guy called Joey legend is a very talented young man.
He is of Dutch/Indonesian descent and he announces at the beginning of his act that he isn't an Elvis impersonator, he doesn't try and look like Elvis, he just likes singing his songs and if you are an Elvis fan and closed your eyes, then you would believe that Elvis is not dead and was singing in front of you because he does sound like him.

The usual 2 games of bingo started off each night, but we avoided this by going for a short walk until the entertainment started.
I don't rate the present compare/DJ that is presently employed, she isn't a patch on Victor and has no charisma whatsoever......the less I say about her, the better.! :zip

All in all, we had a very good time and I'm glad despite all the problems of last year, that we spent the festive season in the Hotel Regente and Benidorm.

Saludos
Sanji
