Discussions regarding holidays in Goa.

I have just been reading on an Ex-Pats forum, that within the last couple of days, there are people who have re-entered India without any problem at immigration. It seems to be that when you contact the HCI, that is when they say you can't re-enter without special permission.

Unfortunately Fiona, a visit to HCI is not possible, especially with the travel conditions as they are at the moment, with all the snow.

There must be many people who will be returning to India within the 2 months time scale who don't read any forums and therefore won't be aware of the new visa regulations. Will they all be denied entry on arrival??

At present we are thinking we will still travel and hope for the best when we reach Goa. (That is if Manchester airport isn't shut on Sunday as it is this morning!!!)

I just can't see you being refused re-entry but its just so annoying that anyone has to go through all this worry.

I think there are a couple of issues here:
1. the lack of consistency coming from the departments who SHOULD know what is the correct answer
2. the lack of notice in introducing a policy that is impacting so many people

Both reflect badly on the Indian Government (or whoever sets policy).

As Molekent says, what is the point of issuing a multiple entry visa valid for 6 month and then putting caveats on it?

Does anybody think there is any mileage is contacting a newspaper or travel editor (maybe Simon Calder) with these 2 conflicting pieces of advice (with both person's agreement of course)?

well - I got a different answer this time
Thank you for your query

An applicant of any nationality needs to have a gap of minimum 2 months before he or she applies for the new tourist visa to India once the old tourist visa expires. Please note that this ruling applies to short term Tourist visas i.e. 6 Months and 1 year and does not apply to the long term entry visa for 5 yrs or any other visa category. Applicants who require re-entry to India within 2 months owing to their itineraries e.g. travelling to a third country from India using Indian port as the hub and returning after a few days, will now have to support their applications with a detailed itinerary and the same will be considered by the HCI for the second entry.

For applicants who have to travel again for any other reason will have to make an application to the HCI, London and it will be considered on case specific basis. Special request forms will be made available very soon on our website & will also provide hard copies of the same through IVAC's for anyone wishing to apply for the re-entry. These applicants will have to attend the HCI in person and submit this request form with a misc fee of £7 and their case will be decided on individual basis at HCI's discretion. If they are given a re-entry, the HCI will stamp a re-entry stamp on their passports which will enable them to re-enter India within 2 months of their last entry.

However, I still read that as a gap of 2 months between visas and not visits.......until the last sentence. :que The one other thing is as far as I can see, is that if you are going out and in to India on one itinery you will have to produce your itinery for both entries. That would make sense going by why they have taken this measure.
So- god knows what the answer is. Does anyone care to try to interpret it???

Thanks for trying Fiona!! :tup
This is much the same information I have been getting from various web sites.

I have just had a long chat with O/H, who hates any kind of hassle and he has said, let's take the risk!!!!

So, weather permitting, we will head to a hotel in Manchester on Saturday, ready for our flight on Sunday!

Am I doing the right thing?????? :que :que :que

Sorry for the questions concerned that I do not want to mess it up as we go in March

The main worry I think, is how the airport staff choose to implement the rule. If they are given vague instructions, it could be up to the individual to interpret it.

I wouldn't fancy your chances if this is the case, as some can be so petty, as with all bureaucrats.
Or it could be 'if your face fits' you will be ok.
They can apparantly deport you straight away. How that works is anyones guess.
This whole saga is a complete shambles and I fel so sorry for people who are affected by it. Talk about stress!!

referees for UK are emergency contacts, use a friend or relative
Referees for India you need to put the address where you are staying (I put "The Manager" then the address

Agreed!

Certainly in the short term individual Immigration Officers may well have the final say on letting you in or not.

The airlines will soon get fed up with having to bring home people who have been refused entry. This may lead to each airline checking visas more closely before allowing departure (as they already do to non-UK citizens on flights to the UK) and using their own interpretation of the rules

Hi all can you tell me I have a British Passport on the Visa Application where it says "Passport Issued By" do I just put in there GBR?

Also can you clarify something, can I fill the application in on line, pay for it, print it off, then post it to Hayes with proof of my payment? I have read this but am confused. First time can you guess "

Just put British Government, and yes you can do everything online, there is no need to send proof of payment as it goes to a secure site. When i did mine everything dissapeared before i could see if it had been verrified, and i was worried the payment hadn,t gone through,so i left it for an hour then checked my online banking and it was there.Just read through and check everything through before you send it off but you,ll still be on pins till you get your passport back complete with visa but i think it,s all part of the build up to what i am sure will be a wonderful holiday.

Issuing passport authority will be UKPA for old style passports and IPS for new. ‘Place of issue' will be GBR.

Yes, complette the application on-line, pay on-line (if that's what you prefer), print, SIGN & DATE making sure that your signature is as near to the one in your passport as possible (some applications have been returned because of this), post the application along with your passport & photos to Hayes by Royal Mail Special Delivery.
Don't forget to include the return RM SD envelope (unless you're using their courier for return).

Finally, make a note of your application number so you can track progress and make a note of the RM SD reference number(s) so you can check on the RM site where your application is within the postal system.

Hi thanks for your replies. I think I have made an error. There is a drop down box on the first page of the online application saying "where would you like to submit your visa application" I have clicked on the Edinburgh link as that is near us, but we are posting it to Hayes. I cant change it but dont know what other box I could have ticked. Also I ticked Tourist Visa - 6 months, but it has come up with S for single entry. Also cant change this. I dont plan in returning within the six months, so will this be fine. Have to get them off today, as flying out on the 14th February.

Thanks in advance.

Hi
I'm afraid I can't really give you any advice on that particular question, maybe somebody who has done the same thing can help you out.

Good luck
