OMG- there is someone actually worse than my mother when it comes to technology!
All just to say if you go to the Amazon discussion kindle bit there is a daily post about free books. Always god to get a few extra downloads before goingon hols.
Good - weighs a lot lighter than half a dozen books that I used to take on holiday - great if you are always over/or close the weight limit.
Bad - difficult to flick back and fwd if you lose the plot (not impossible though)
Steve- I know what you mean about flicking back and forward. Its the one disadvantage I can think of in a kindle.

You will need winzip or similar to extract the files once downloaded, posters often upload them in various formats ie .mobi ePub PDF etc but if you need to convert download Calibre it's a free conversion software

It can be a little time consuming and fiddly but it is easy once you get the hang of it and worth it for all the latest releases.
Fiona Thanks for the link for free books. I had my Kindle for mothers day :-) I now have 70 odd books on it only 6 of which i have purchased. The only problem is now, when on earth am i going to read them all. I download at least one every day LOL. Thanks again much appreciated
Had a bit of a play with the new kindle touch in currys the other day, its awful, just a little touch on the screen and the page turns, its bad enough now that when i move or turn over in bed i turn a page or 2 so wont be getting one of those
Picture the scene there I am standing waiting on my order coming through from the abyss and a wee elderly lady arrives beside me and asks the young boy serving 'son do you sell covers for Kindle fires' the young lad has that look (you know the look, a good Scottish word is glaikit so he then decides to get a bit more information about this possible sale and asks her if it is an indoor fire or one that can be used in the garden for BBQ's.
To the young lad, if you ever read this I must apologise for laughing
I hope none of his pals overheard that- he would never live it down.
Glaikit- isn't that such a great descriptive word?
Not tried the touch yet but my youngest is fed up of me telling him what a great pressie it was. Taking a charger with me this time as I ran out of battery in February with 4 days left on my holiday.

Kiltman you remember buying Kindle for fires don't you, even thou your only 21
I gave my husband a Kindle at Christmas. Apart from one or two at 99 pence, he has never paid for any. He has now read 36 books. Well worth paying the Kindle with what he's saving on not buying books!
My husband and son have them too.
I wouldn't be without mine! As an avid bookworm I took 6 books to Lanzarote in January and still had to raid the hotels shelves. I download every day as I'm stocking up for Kos in June. It's amazing! Some of the free books I've downloaded have been absolute rippers!
I love books and still take loads on holiday and hope there is a book exchange in the hotel.
I do love the kindle but won't spend a lot on a book for it. if I have to spend the money it will be on a real book!
Cheers Vickie
I have kindle on my phone, its a free app for android phones...
vicjayhay wrote:I have finally made the leap and invested in a kindle, I have collected many books for the kindle which I have been reading on my iPad. Now I have got the kindle I have noticed the screen whilst reading is much darker is there anyway you can lighten it
Cheers Vickie
Unfortunately you can't adjust the brightness. It displays just like a book would, so it doesn't harm your eyes, but you get used to it. I know what you mean though it is such a difference reading on your iPad to a kindle.
