You need a code from most hotels to access the free wifi. For hotels which charge for internet, again you wont be able to access it without paying in advance.
Dave,
My understanding of the above is that I can only share with devices registered to the same Amazon Account as mine, so that doesn't include friends or family who have a different account registration or am I totally misunderstanding it?
I'm not sure Judith as we haven't tried it as we only have one Kindle !
Web browsing is free were there is 3G .It's a bit tedious loading but it helps to book mark favourite pages like the BBC news headlines.
My wife used hers on the beach and in our apartment in Ibiza were there wasn't an internet connection.
cheers Dave
I was hoping that I could share with a friend eventually, but I've downloaded a fair few and there are enough out there to probably keep me busy for the rest of my life.
A friend who does a lot of hiking always take a book or two in her rucksack. As she reads them she discards the pages so that the book gets lighter each day. She always keeps a few pages in the book that she has read for emergency toilet paper!
That sounds like what I used to do- but it wasn't do with losing luggage weight, it was more to do with falling out anyway.Haven't used them for toilet paper though
It's not a kindle (I'm just grateful I have been bought one) so I need a bit of advice please. Where do you get all these free books? I've found some sites but they all seem to be the mills and boons type -each to their own - and I am certainly not being a snob or even too fussy but I like a bit of mystery, crime etc and def humour!!!!
I don't expect everything for free and I spend lots on second hand books but I seem to have read about all these free books and indeed all the ebook websites but I can't recall many of them. Of course Am-z--n do all the kindle books but are these ok for other ereaders
Mine has loads of formats including adobe pdf
Any help really appreciated. Last hols I read 7 books - yes I chilled a lot but I read relly quickly too hence my appreciation and excitement at my new ereader.

One of the main ones I use, apart from Amazon as I have a Kindle is Smashwords.
Good selection of books in a wide range of e-reader formats, and broken down into genres so easy to search for the type of book or books you like.
Just need to remember to take my laptop home this weekend to transfer the 38 books I have downloaded over the last 3 weeks to the Kindle.

That is right and you are also limited to the number of devices that can be registered to an account, 6 in total. So if you have 3 family members with a kindle and a phone app registered you cannot add anymore devices to the account.
I tend to have the phone app registered for when SWMBO "pops into TK Maxx for 5 minutes" syncs with the Kindle and I can pick up my book where I left off on the Kindle. I have been known to read half a book in that "5 minutes".
Can somebody help me please. I have a sony e-reader and it's getting quite full so I've just tried to delete some of the books already read. I click on the book I want to delete , then go to utilities then click on delete book. It then comes up saying press Mark to delete book, with a picture of a bin. I don't know what it means by "press Mark". Anybody have any ideas please
Rumour has it that there will be one in my stocking on 25th December. Saw several people on holiday with them and strangly enough my wife commented they were a good idea. But then she is fed up at all the books I keep buying so less clearing upbehind me. I would normally have at least two on the go.
Lucky you FWH, I love mine I just don't know how to delete the books when I'm done. If you get one have a look at the manual and let me know please
I have just bought a new 3D version of the Kindle ........................................ also know as a book
I would love a Kindle Fire but unfortunately I have been told these are not available yet in the UK.
Marlou, on the home page, scroll down to the book that you want to delete, then "right click" (the >button on the right of the square one) and scroll down to "Delete this document"
Ok I will give that a try and report back. Thanks.

Am heading on a trip this week & will be 'kindling' for the 1st time. Feeling a bit panicky about the whole thing being a disaster & I'll have no books as backup!
Can you use your kindle on planes? & do you have to turn them off for take-off & landing? That'd be a bit of a pain
I just turned mine off for take off and landing, not a problem really.

Books deleted thank you.

We have been made to switch the Kindles off for take-off and landing but apart from that no restriction on using it during the flight. We also take a couple of paperbacks with us as backup - my first trip with a Kindle, it packed in after a few days, and I didn't have any backup. Major trauma!
I've taken mine away 3 times now with no problem, thank goodness.I think you must have just been unlucky, eviljock. Hubby and youngest son had kindles for Christmas and so far no problems either.
