I have never been to Port Soller so maybe I should give it a try. A few years ago we took the train from Palma to Soller but didn't have time to get the tram to the port everyone seems to say how good it is so maybe later in the year. I might be able to persuade hubby to go. Is there lots of photographic opportunities? If there is I stand a better chance of going!!!
CBG
The Photographic opportunities around Soller and the Port are endless, with some of the most beautiful villages in Mallorca right on the doorstep.
Deia, Fornalutx,Binaraix to name a few, a boat trip to Sa Calobra and the Torrent de Parais from the port would provide some great photos and the view from the Mirador Ses Barques is not far away.
I know that Cala Bona is your favourite, but I hope that you will try Port De Soller it may be a different kind of holiday for you who knows as there is not much happening in the evenings, however there are some fine restuarants.
Nice to talk to you,
Best Wishes
Dave
ps Whats happened to Tis?
Lucky you. I really feel like a break now but have got to wait until August . Would love to join you for a walk in the mountains - will the almond trees be in blossom when you go - I'd love to see that!
TIS was on a while ago she had a new job and was very busy. She did tell me she had to have a new central heating boiler and may not get away this year!!! I do miss her posts to cheer us all up. Will tell my hubby how good Soller sounds so who knows I may get sooner as opposed to later!?
Tippi
OH its a long wait to August for you, but worth waiting for!!!
CBG
Yes the almond blossom is out and is beautiful paticularly as you travel on the train from Palma to Soller around the Bunyola area.
We would be pleased for you to join us on our walks, last year there was plenty of snow about in February and having usually walked in late September early October it was a completely different aspect to our walks with having had rain which ran down the mountains in to the small torrents which in previous years had been dry and which we walked through we had to use the small bridges. The only draw back for us is that I will not drive in Mallorca, but last year we met a super couple who had hired a car and with them were able to get out further, some other friends who we met walking in the Puerto Pollensa area seven years ago and although we never arrange to meet except telling them our dates in a christmas card might be there which will add to the enjoyment.
How is your daughter the last time we spoke she was off to stay with a Spanish family how did she get on?
Lovely to hear from you, Good Luck, The days go so quickly it will soon be August and the Moreyo.
Bye,
David
I am really envious. The only thing I miss when I go to Mallorca peak season is being able to walk (I just cannot walk any distance in the heat of summer). I can imagine the train ride would be really, really spectacular if the blossom is out. Happy rambling David
Hi from Son Matias Beach in Palmanova. Weather has been a little cool but sunnier today. Hotel a little like an old folks home but still good and great views.
I have been wondering how you have been getting on what do you think of Palma Nova?
Have a great time !
Thanks for posting,
David.
Palmanova was extremely quiet - nothing like what I imagine it would be like in peak season.
We liked that end of the island - certainly a lot more scenic than the Eastern end.
Hotel was very, very good, I will post a review on the hotels bit. The Son Matias is supposed to be the best hotel in Palmanova - fantastic sea views from all rooms especially the end of the hotel we were in. As I said, it was a little like an old folks home but some of them were fantastic dancers - made us younger folks feel quite unfit!!
The weather perked up during the week - although it was raining quite hard this morning.
Would we return to the Son Matias and Palmanova - yes probably - but never in peak season!
Pippa
can anyone tell me what the belle vue village hotel is like in alcudia thanks
Reviews for the Bellevue can be found on the following link
hi folks;were thinking of going to calas mallorca in late september or early october as anyone been there and what was it like what would the weather be like any feedback welcome
Hi Porker
I had a lovely holiday in Calas de Mallorca a few years ago now It was October half term weather HOT. So Sept or early October should be OK BUT sometimes you can get a iffy week but better than at home. By last week in October a few of the bars etc had started to close for the winter. Was a lovely relaxing holiday.
thanks for the reply we have now booked and going on the 26th sept and going all inclusive which we havent done before we will try some trips too
Very quiet on here. We're going to the Bahia Azul apartments in Cala Bona in August for two weeks. The reviews seem very good.Just looked on the satellite map on the Mallorca website and it doesn't look too far away from the harbour/promenade.
We were last in Cala Bona in 2003 and had a great holiday. We stayed at the Sur which was very basic with no aircon in what was one of the hottest summers for years. There was 3 guys who worked in the pavement bar at the Sur,Rual,Hector and Tony who also played Guitar in a duo who performed there every Sunday night.Good lads, had a great laugh with them.Hopefully they will still be there.
Anybody been to the Bahia Azul?
Regards Fenderman
I go to Cala bona 19 th May so will have a look in at the Bahia Azul and report back. The Sur bar is now a "Pago beach" so is the sofas are gone and bar stools and cane chairs instead. They still have entertainment last year "Neil Diamond" was good. We stayed at the Moreyo last timer so sat and watched entertainment fron across the road. This year will be our first time at the hotel Bonamar so getting excited as its getting nearer. CBG
Thanks,If you pass the Pago Bar(strange name )on a sunday night,Tony used to play there with a keyboard player. He played an orange coloured electric guitar and Rual and Hector used to play pots and pans as percussion to Santanas She's Not There. It was really funny.
Hotel Bonamar looks good. We're going with Thomson this time, actually cheaper than DIY.
Have a great holiday.
Cheers FM
It is nearly three years since we were there and we had a lovely holiday, although lots of hotels and bars had closed as it was late October.
I have booked a 'Build your own Holiday' with Thomson for two at £936, which includes transfers and goes from Humberside our nearest airport. The same holiday booked as a package was £1158 and it used the same flights.
Regards Sue
I have been twice to the Talayot and had a fab time on both occasions. As far as I know the same staff are there so I'm sure you will have a good time. Pleased that you saved some cash that will go towards the holiday spends.CBG
