Perhaps they're playing swapsies! Manchester don't need Ryanair, and will be far better off without them.
Manchester is just starting to drag itself up to the standard that is required by a true international airport
The last thing it needs is airlines using it for free
You only need to travel through Liverpool to see what that does for infrastructure investment
Looks like the strikes going ahead. The airport are playing it down saying it is only affecting a small percentage of staff and shouldn't cause too many problems but still not good news for those of us travelling out of Manchester over that weekend
Exactly a year ago, we were also having discussions in this topic about proposed strike action at Manchester Airport. Fortunately those strikes were called off and all we can hope is that the same thing happens again this time.

The press release says "prepared to" not "are going to" and the talks have been booked!
Just a thought, why do MAN workers always seem to come in groups of full hundreds? Ryanair claim they could have created 400 but there will now be 600 losses, this lot are 300.

The numbers are estimates, it would be impossable to quote exact figures. Given Ryanair don't have any aircraft based at Manchester (they use handling agents), I would take the number of job losses they quote with a rather large pinch of salt.

Fingers crossed the strikes have last ditch talks and are called off. It's just my luck I wait all year for my holiday then they announce strikes, or maybe that's a lesson for next year to be learned for not travelling on August bank holiday. We're travelling on the Sunday morning too, so I guess right in the middle of a potential strike. I'll let you know how I get on if they go ahead. I have a strange feeling we'll get to Lanzarote but the bags will end up elsewhere, either that or the plane will run out of fuel somewhere over the Atlantic!
These may be daft questions, but is it just the baggage handlers? And would we be able to fly with just cabin baggage, or are the flights still disrupted? Is Thomas Cook likely to be affected, or do they have different staff? We have only seen news clips before of airport lounges crowded with sleeping bodies so don 't really know how things work (or not) during a strike.
I've seen on our news (Granada Reports) that it's cleaners, baggage handlers and aircraft refuelers. I don't know who it will affect most but I would imagine that Charter flights come lower in priority to the scheduled so if there's any problems, they'll be first. Make sure you've got your travel insurance sorted just in case.
Does anyone know what is the earliest you can check in for a Thomas Cook flight to Turkey. I am getting a lift to the airport but this will be 4 hours before I fly . I know there are no facilities before security in T1 so I could do with getting through security asap
Any info would be appreciated
Thanks Rob
You'll be fine checking-in 4 hours before your flight. Check-in is at desks 1-13 in Terminal 1 (left corner as you enter the terminal).

Thanks for the quick reply.
Hi. We fly out on September 5th, flight be9031. Please can anyone advise which terminal we fly from? We would like to try to book parking.
starkeybabe,
Cheers for that quick reply, dazbo!
is the strike, still going ahead,at the airport, over the weekend,or has it been called off?
There are 3 seperate companies/disputes so there's a good chance that at least part of the problem will be solved. The union had announced that 2 sets of talks had been set up around last weekend but nothing more has been said. I suspect the hardest part will be Swissport, they have a pretty poor record of industrial relations and have now reneged on a deal signed last year so there isn't going to be much goodwill or trust there!
Onur Air use Servisair.
thanks to you both!
