ginkster,
cheers darren
i hear a turkish airline has gone belly up/........please dont say its this one. i go on monday
I have checked all the news sites and can't find any news on any Turkish airline going bust (into recievership), But there was the news about an Italian airline, Alitalia facing bankruptcy .
and also K+S travel I think they were called whom went bust last weekend the day after XL . They specialised in holidays to Turkey but used Onur for many of their flights
Can anyone tell me how strict Onur air are with luggage. Is it possible to take one case of 24kgs and another of 16 kgs or do both cases have to be 20 kgs.
You can pool your luggage allowance, but anything over your combined limits are liable for excess baggage charges. Turkish airports are generally very strict, particularly Dalaman.
Darren
Thanks for that.
Im flying with onur air on friday 24 october, Manchester to Antalya
Flight No OHY818
Anybody know what aircraft they use for this flight ?
Cheers
Brian
oldsod,

Just had a phone call from our travel agent that our holiday due to leave on Oct 4th has been cancelled due to Onur air cancelling flight. This is the second time our flight had been changed but this time they cannot offer us an alternative. The flight only was advertised at £534 on their website which was more than we paid for the holliday!!!
heck.i'm due to leave Glasgow with Onur tomorrow morning.......watch this space!
just returned from turkey with onur air on A321 AIRBUS great flight home to manchester flight no 1507 leaving manchester for bodrum we was 8 hours delay, we had to wait for a plane to fly from istanbul to manchester great holiday tony
snacks and drinks usual price for an airline nothing special, just brought it before hand at the airport.
flight going out was ok no delays etc, although sounded a bit like an old car kangerooing down the runway at first (bit scary) seemed to take ages getting off the ground thought we was going to run out of runway! once up in the air it was fine a few bumps and rattles of turbulance but nothing major, landing was fine too.
coming home well what an experience- take off was fine, quite a bit of turbulance throughout journey.
10 mins before landing at birmingham the captain announced we were landing at manchester! no explanation other than it was too dangerous to land! we later found out this was due to fog at birmingham. we then sat on the tarmac for ages nobody telling us anything no complimentary drinks nothing, when staff were apprached they simply said they didnt understand! i know its not there fault and they didnt speakmuch english but it was highly annoying that we wasnt being told anything!
we were then able to step outside onto the steps to have a stretch about, (thank goodness because my feet were ballooning!) after what seemed ages they brought round the drinks trolley for what we thought were complimnetary drinks - ow no we had to pay for them! 2.50 for a can of coke!
fiinaly after 3 long hours we were flown back to birmingham - does anyone know if its worth complianing to anyone about this? goldtrail?, onurair? or our tour operator book cheap holidays?
thanks
crumpet x
The fact that you needed to pay for drinks is because Onur air is a low cost carrier and charge for all drinks, bad weather is neither their fault or yours (it's an act of god) so who should pay the bill is debatable, they would have incurred extra costs for landing fees and fuel due to the diversion so I don't thing it is unreasonable not to offer complimentary drinks but ask for payment (However water should be free, did you ask for water).
I don't think you have reason to complain except for the lack of information given, but thats only my opinion.
I hope you enjoyed your holiday and accept this incident as just a hiccup which happens occasionally.
Dave
As dksbbs mentions, when visibility goes below minimums for safe landing, the Captain will make a decision to divert to their alternate. In this case, Manchester. Some airports, aircraft and crew are trained and able to land in zero visibility, I very much doubt if Onur Air are though. Birmingham is a CAT III(A) runway I think with a decision height of 30m and/or 210m visual from touchdown. If they can't see the runway from that height / distance, they can't land. Manchester is CAT I/II/III (A-C). As soon as the conditions in Birmingham improved, you went on your way. As that could have been at any time, you weren't allowed to disembark the aircraft as it could take 30 minute or more to get everyone back on the aircraft. In which time, the conditions could have worsened and you're back to square one. Cabin crew probably know as much as you did. The flight crew would have been waiting to hear when conditions were above minimums for BHX so couldn't tell you anything until they got the call. It's that time of year were weather diversions are rife due to cold, damp and foggy mornings. We've seen aircraft from all over the world diverted in to Manchester over the last 2 weeks. It's just that time of year i'm afraid. You can complain if you wish, but the airline did all they were required to do. You got home safe and sound, albeit a little later than planned which is all that matters.
Darren
I wouldnt hesitate to fly with them again. No delays except for a few minutes each way, and pleasant staff, good range of spirits/tobacco/perfumes etc, and Cappy cherry juice in full size cans! 3.5 euro for coke, fanta etc, which is comparable i believe to other airlines on board prices.
Oh and as for the passport name thing i asked about.....didnt risk it, paid for a name change on the ticket before i went.
