Hello, we have been to olu deniz many times and my husband and daughter have paraglided. The day after my husband went a man from our hotel was killed doing it, his wife was sat by the pool next to us waiting for him when she had to be told what had happened, they were due to go home that evening and it was their daughters wedding in a month. So please think carefully before letting your children do this. Having said that the price in olu deniz varies over the season from £45 to £65 approx. Also check insurance as your holiday insurance does not cover this.

Hi Stephen
nice to see you.
You're braver than I am. Having said that, my man did it at LW a couple of years ago and loved it. It cost about £65 then but that included insurance.
I've no doubt you could get it cheaper in Olu. Can't wait to hear how you get on

Hi Stephen
We met last year at Lykia, and we are also going back on 21st June for 2 weeks ( can't wait ) I've seen your posts over the last few months and I'm glad you managed to get your flights sorted out.

We did the paragliding from Lykia last year ( myself, husband and 10 year old daughter) it is more expensive from Lykia ( £80 each ) but they were very professional and fully insured. They also take you from the complex and land you back just next to the beach side restaurant. I'm glad we did it but have NO desire to do it again.

Anyway see you at Aslam's!

hi
we are in lykia world right now and lovin it. 8)
the weather is great and the food if very fattening..... LOL

yes, i tried the paragliding last year and had a few problems :? .
we had a bad takeoff and we hit the edge of the road that you travel up the mountain. i guess we didnt have enough lift when we took off. anyway i was in so much pain throughout the flight that i couldnt enjoy it. when we landed, it was in a heap on the floor because i had passed out on the aproach....... at the time the staff were very helpful but when it came to the video, the take off was of someone else and the landing was also missing.
i asked for some kind of apology but was told everything was ok !!
yeah right, when i got back to england, the hospital said i had broken my coxix bone in my backside..... ouch.. .. it was painful for 6 months,

just to remind everybody, paragliding is not covered on most holiday insuranses so check before you fly....

although talking to another guest today, he got a special insurance to cover dangerous sports on holiday for 20 pound from the internet.... well worth it i think

lykia world is great today and i have just eaten a full dinner and am feeling rather bloated.

to anybody coming here this year, have a great time, you will love it....

cheers

I was shocked to read that someone had died doing the paragliding jump. I did it last year and I think if I had read this thread It would have put me off. Before I went last year I searched the internet for any reports of deaths of accidents at Olu Deniz due to paragliding and could find nothing. The most I could find was reports of injuries on landing ie sprained ankles. and we did see plent of people limping why we were there.

It was a brilliant experience, I have a fabulous video and still pictures of the flight. Yes there is danger but then again you can be killed crossing the road or driving on a motorway and we never worry about that, do we.

Hi
My daughter would like to know what paragliding company was involved in the incidents?

I too have done it ands it was fantastic an experience not to be missed if you are happy with heights. I took a Camera and got some great shots and in our group we arranged to take shots of the others and got duplicate sets of prints so you could get pictures of yourself.

Also there was a report of a death whilst I was there but it appears that all the major accidents are people who are the enthusiasts and take their own kit. If you look at the mountain you will see people way above it these are the "independents" the trips just take-off a soar a little before decending to the beach.

I did see one incident on landing where the Glider hit very hard but this was caused by a coastguard helicopter that flew along the beach 2 mins before the landing and cause the air to be agitated.

Briar,

I was there at the time that guy died and his mate was seriously injured, both were private enthusiasts who found that when they got to the top of the mountain that they had total cloud cover below. Instead of taking the jeep back they decided to take off blind, then in order to loose height and get below the cloud they started ' wingovers ' ( Spinning ) I was told that it was then they slammed into the mountain. Really sad story but none of the commercial companies will launch in less than perect conditions. I am suprised to hear of the problems people have had with the commercial companies, but I think they are as safe as can be and do not take risks.

We have flown with focus on both occasions, and have been able to negotiate a £40 fee each time. It was a brilliant experience, and the greatest ever photo opportunity.

Would I do it again - DEFINATELY

Has anyone done the paragliding at Olu Deniz. Is it worth doing how much does it cost and which company would you recommend. Also I suffer quite bad air sickness, is it a smooth ride or very bumpy?

My family have all done it but not me. They all loved it. One got airsick but that was when the pilot did some fancy turns. I'm told the jeep ride up is the scariest bit. We did it through Lykia World - about £70 each. Apparently cheaper in Olu Deniz itself but cant reccommend anywhere. I know it wasnt covered on our holiday insurance but we got separate insurance through the paragliding company.

hi there - never been brave enough yet - although hubby said everday " i ve got to have a go at that - maybe tomorrow" . im sure most of the guys in olu sell it for around £40 but barter and you can prob get it for around £30-35. also been well imformed that the ride up is very :yikes :yikes . looks fab though and it is a must if your brave enough . definately check out the insurance the landing looks the most dangerous part - we saw one pair land in a tree on the beachfront. he was fine though. they all land back on the beachfront and its great fun watching.

Hi there :)
Yes been there done that + got the 'T' shirt and it's not for the faint hearted, the drive up the mountain is fun, ( well it was for me ) but having said that we hired a jeep one year and four of us went up with that, to show the others veiw from the top, by the time we got there one of the women was in tears, ( she was petrified )
Anyway when i did it the cost was £45, then i think last year they put the price up to £60, to cover insurance, ( lot of good that is if you're dead ) and people have died doing this but having said that it is something that is out of this world.
People call it jumping off the mountain, but there is no jumping involved, it's a case of taking a few running steps forward before you are airborne and away you go.

It can only be dangerous if you do this yourself, without the instructor. Yes, a lot of people have died doing this, but none of them actually had an instructor with them. You will be safe as long as you do it with an experienced pilot.

Hi, we all did it last summer. Katie age 8 went first, then hubby and somehow I managed to be last. It was wonderful, I would recommend it to anyone (Katie wants to do it again this year but we are going to a different part of Turkey and think she will be unlucky) We used Focus they are on the walkway that runs along the beach at Olu. I think we paid about £40-45 each (definately no more). We also got the DVD`s taken whilst we wer in the air and they are well worth the money.

My recommendation would be go for it.... you won`t regret it, its fantastic.
(PS we were all strapped to a qualified instructor)

I did it last year and it was fantastic. I am scared of heights though so got really worked up about it in the morning. The trip up the mountain in the jeep wasn't as bad as I'd been led to believe but it took over half-an-hour on the steep drive up. Once harnessed to the pilot, you run a few steps over some scree and suddenly you're up there. The ride was smooth but when you get over the sea, the pilot will ask you if you want to do some stunts (twists and turns at speed). I said a big 'no thanks' to that and landed safely on the beach almost on the spot he'd forecast from the air. I have a great aerial photo that I took with my camera in mid-air. It was an amazing experience and I'm glad I didn't miss out on it. Price was about £35 from an agent in Hisaronu.

I did it the year before last. I really enjoyed it. At 52, there are not many WOW moments, so I was very pleased with myself.

It is a good idea to choose your operator wisely as there have been accidents and some companys are less careful. I went with EASYRIDERS who do have a good reputation for safety. They will not take off unless conditions are perfect. We watched them landing over a couple of weeks the year before and they always seem to land right on the landing spot.

It is wonderfully calm and graceful. there is no dropping or air pockets. Everything feels unreal as it is so still. The scene below just looks like a picture.
I nwould definately recommend it. Its a wonderful memory.
