Hi Haddy, yes that was us, I sort of guessed who you were too! Yes, the residence looks great, had the same idea myself. I know what you mean about the food!! we ate lunch most days at the hotel and ate out in the town at night. I love my grub, but my goodness, there was some food on the go!

We went to the Tunisian night on the terrace one night. There was a plate of aperatifs, then a salad, then brik, then soup. I was stuffed. THEN there was a barbecue, ice cream and pastries. Excellent entertainment and food.

Hi Aslemma, yep good time had by all. Your friend was right about the weather being so hot the week before I went, think the shops were bought out of factor 50 suncream!!

Hi christine, bet your getting really excited.... When we bought the drink in duty free at Belfast it was put into a clear bag and sealed with the receipt inside and when we got to the Kanta we didn't know at the time you couldn't bring your own drink in,nobody said anything nor did i go out of my way to hide it,only found out a few days later when i was stopped and a 2lt coke taken from me  As far as i'm aware the hotel rooms where cleaned everyday not sure what time because we went for breakfast about 9esh and that was us untill 6 that night. Yes men can wear 3/4 lenghts i did and seen others as well wearing them. The beach i'm sorry can't help you there, because we only went for a week we didn't do much other than sunbathe and the kids didn't want to do anything other than play in the pool with some friends they had meet. Anymore questions ask away and if i can help i will :D P.s if your bringing mixers back from the town hide them in your handbag thats what my wife done

Haddy, it was the mother in law that gave it away! I heard her using your christian name one day at the pool so I guessed then it was you. I was going to ask you one day at lunch but chickened out! Will the MIL be going next year? She said a week was enough she missed her dogs.

Would like to try the Kanta Residence myself. My son loved the hotel, but as you say, all that FOOD!!!! Course, we didnt have to eat it but if its there, its hard to resist.

Wonder if anyone else on here has tried the residence?

Hi Christine,

I was in the lobby one evening and a gentleman came along with a bottle of wine to take to the restaurant. The waiter in the lobby queried him but he said it was his duty free and that was fine.

I took wine into the room and sort of hid it in the wardrobe, but I threw the bottles in the wastebin and the cleaners didnt say anything. Also, I bought water and juice from the Big Supermarket and put it in the mini bar and the mini bar man didnt say anything either.

The beach is rather cramped I thought, but I was told the beach bar is brilliant. The Tuk Tuk takes you every 10 mins from the hotel. A gentleman told me that every year they bring a bottle of Irish Whiskey and give it to the lifeguard or the owner of the bar cant remember and he saves them the best beds. But theyve been going for 9 yrs so theyve got to know him.

Ask any questions you want, its always been to be forewarned if you get my drift.

Cheers

Hi Haddy,

I do fancy the residence as its self catering. I loved the hotel but as we took lunches a lot more than the evening meal, I found it a bit claustrophobic with the waiters dancing attention hand and foot. Not used to being watched and waited on heehee.

I think there would be a lot more freedom with self catering and at least you wont get stopped at the back gate for bringing in a bottle of coke hahaha. Did you not read the posts before hand, everyone was saying you couldnt bring stuff in and there were signs as well silly billy.

I work with someone who was in the Residence and they say its grand, but cooking facilities bit basic. Sure all you need is a kettle to make coffee or tea and a fridge to keep stuff cool.

Well sure your MIL told me a week was long enough, she was ready to go home on the Thursday!

Will have to see how the money goes before I am tempted back to Kanta next year.

Chat soon.

Hi All :wave

Jilly and Haddy
I'm glad you both enjoyed your hols at the Kanta! We had a fab time as always, pity we couldn't have brought some of that lovely sun home though! Haddy you must be hooked now you have already booked for next year!.....I'm tempted by Egypt for next summer but if we dont go to Kanta in July we will go at easter or later in the year (hopefully). Did either of you notice a group from N/I with a little blond baby boy with a tent along the far side of the top pool?

Christine
They will take any currency at the airport so I wouldn't bother changing to Euros. I always take Sterling Trav Cheques and some sterling too.
The mini bar isn't expensive, we didn't have any alcohol from ours but had plenty of water and soft drinks and our bill for two weeks was only 28 Dinars (approx £14). my brother his gf and two kids had alcohol and soft drinks and the bill was only about 60TD (£30).
Breakfast is served from 6am until 10am, I liked to go in for breakfast just before 8am because there wasn't very many people in at that time but I would say just go whatever time suits you.
Dinner is served from 6.30pm until 9pm. It was usually about 8pm before we were heading down for dinner by the time my brother got the kids and baby ready, this suited me because there was fewer people in at that time. There always seemed to be loads of food out no matter if the resturaunt was just opened or nearly closing.

There are some flies but no more than you would get anywhere else and I personally have never found them to be a problem in Tunisia.

Oh and our group had three rooms this year and they were all located together, we didn't request this so I would imagine you will get rooms together without a problem!

Kate
Dunno about a hammam but my mum had a back neck and shoulder massage and it only cost 15TD (approx £7.50).
My brother had a travel kettle in his room for warming the baby's bottle. Not sure if the hotel would approve or not but you could always keep it in the drawer during the day and just bring it out while your in the room and they would be none the wiser
I know you are not allowed to bring drinks into the hotel from the shops and the security staff will confiscate any they find (just ask haddy! heh-heh). I read somewhere on this site about people staying in the Kanta requesting an empty mini-bar and putting their own stuff into it but if you do just make sure you keep any bottles well hidden when coming back from the supermarket!

Anyway Christine and Kate hope you all enjoy your hols! Have a great time and try not to miss the bad weather too much!
I can't wait already it's only 9weeks and 2days until I go back to PEK :D

Hi Leanna, glad you enjoyed your holiday. No need to say if i enjoyed mine.... Can't say i seen ya's we where at the pool beside the snack bar day and daily.Where are you staying when you go back in a few weeks :?:  Going back next July for 2 weeks 1 week wasn't long enough, as i have said before first time to Tunisia so i didn't know what to expect. My wife isn't a big holiday fan,it was her that was going on about booking same place for next year. We usually wouldn't go to the same place year after year but surprised by the service and how friendly the people where, and i'm sure next year will not be the last either :D

Hi Christine :D

Not long to go now!!

Sorry can't help you with the drinks question because I don't drink alcohol very often.
I would imagine the bars/cafes around the marina would be open well into the small hours.

Enjoy your hols and don't forget to let us know how you got on when you get home!

Hiya haddy

looks like I just missed your post!

Heading to the Occidental Abou Sofiane in 8 weeks and 2 days! :D Wishing it was back to the Kanta though. We will call down to the Kanta least one night for dinner and probably once or twice for lunch at the snack bar even though we are going All Inclusive! Mmmm how I love those tuna pizzas in the snack bar!! The staff at the Kanta are always so friendly even when you are staying at a different hotel.
Anyway hope you enjoy next year at the Residence as much as you enjoyed the hotel this year!
Leanna
