YESTERDAY I E-MAILED THE BIRMINGHAM CONSULATE TO ASK IF THEY WOULD STILL PROCESS POSTAL APPLICATIONS.
the answer is, they wil only do applications from scotland as this is their jurisdiction.

called Birmingham last week and they said they would accept postal applications regardless of your address.
I emailed Birmingham yesterday to ask if they are accepting postal applications for people living in England. I got a reply today from them. They asked for my postal address which I have now sent so it sounds to me like they are only doing them for certain parts of England, otherwise why would they want to know whereabouts in England I live before they answer the question?
minnie9, let us us know the reply, be interesting
I rang Edinburgh today and they said they are doing them for Cumbria !!!!!!!!!!!
I will post as soon as I get a reply.

this just gets more confusing
I wrote on this forum a couple of weeks ago about my friend who lives in Goa, he was staying with me in Walsall and decided to renew his visa in Birmingham, he went to the consulate and they wouldn't renew his visa because he has a london address so he musy renew his visa in London
We live in Yorkshire and have previously used both Birmingham and London for ours.
After reading all this I am totally confused We live near Exeter and we always send our visa applications to the HCI in London. Please can someone tell me what the current situation is regarding this as of today? We travel on November 4th. Thanks a lot, Jude
With effect from the 20th of this month, the HCI no longer allowed visas to be issued via the post. I initially misread their announcement on their website and thought that you could not get a visa either in person or via the post. You can still go there to have one issued but not via the post.
The announcement has a list of travel agents attached showing the names of travel agents who can assist with the visas, however, as I have found out, they will not always help you unless you have bought a holiday through them.
I think I will either go to London in person, or send my application through to the visa place in Birmingham or use one of the visa services found on the net. I am reluctant to use one of the travel agents to get my visa/holiday as I don't think they will be competitive.
I hope this helps.
Sheila.
Just trying to get up to speed with what happening re visa's, I have just looked at HCI website re visa application and its still saying you can post application.........am i on the wrong page or have u seen information else where
Not going till January so not panicing yet
Regards
Jules
Yes you are on the wrong page, I was looking yesterday, under the tourist visa information it does still say you can post. However if you go to the home page you will see the announcement, and you will also find that the information regarding posting applications has been removed. The reference you refer to is a 'rogue' reference.
I thought they might be only doing certain areas being as they had asked for my postal address but they didnt enlighten me as to whether this was the case. The email just said "You can apply by post"
Maybe they are doing postals for anyone or maybe they are only doing certain areas and I happen to fall into one of the areas, I dont know.
I live in Lancashire.
Sorry if this has already been answered but who are you supposed to put in the 'indian referees' part of the Vis application!?!?
I just put in the hotel where I was staying and the British Embassy, India [used it last year too]
Yes OAP I did that too I think I also put down the TA as the other referee.
I have posted our passports and application for visas to Birmingham, we live in Wales will keep you informed of what happens
Well, this new "logical" idea from the HCI will certainly improve tourist relations I noticed all the authorised travel agents are in London and i've only heard of 2 of the companies. No doubt they'll charge pretty well what they like for their visa application service too when they see what a nice little earner it is. Going to London in person is not really an option for us any more than it will be for quite a few others i'm sure; so we will just hope that Birmingham will process our postal application from Devon! For anyone who is thinking "don't panic"....... Too late! Me thinks we will be posting ours next week.......
