Hi Mel,

No doubt, go to Alicante (specially if you can find cheap flights), or even Valencia, but Barcelona and Girona are much farther away. If you are renting a car, it would be a good idea to book it in advance and get it at the airport.

Thanks for that. I've managed to find a map that Javea is on and I can see that Girona airport is miles! This is no doubt the reason I
failed Geography at school, I'm clueless

We did intend to hire a car at the airport as we will need one all the time. Do you know of any good, reasonably priced carhire companies?

Also, if anybody knows any information about Javea (or even the surrounding towns) I would be very grateful.

Ta,

Mel

I can't help with info about Javea, but here you have some links to ren-a-cars that operate in the region and have offices at the airport:

There must be more, but I don't remember any other. I have only used Centauro, good price and service.

Have fun in Javea

You can book your car on the net through holidayautos.co.uk . I think they just book whichever of the airport based car hire firms offer them the best deal and they can get them cheaper than you can by booking direct. I've had cars off them from Europcar, Europa and Carjet and had no problems.
If your geography is bad, don't forget you might be able to use Liverpool airport for the northern flights and Easyjet fly from there (and Gatwick). They are quite cheap if you book well in advance, I paid £90 return (including all the taxes, security levies etc) for August flights booked in February.
Reply
Easyjet also fly from Bristol to Valencia if you choose to arrive at that airport. :D

I've done lots of searches for hire cars in Spain and Auto Europe nearly always comes out best http://www.auto-europe.co.uk, give them a try, they are very helpful.

Best of luck,

hi.. what time of year are you planning.. there are lots of fiestas in this area, not just Javea but look at the
http://www.comunitat-valencia.com site for Denia, Calpe, Moraira, Jalon.. there always loads going on if you dont want to sit on the beach all day.
Javea itself has a lot more going for it than just the Arenal, walking, sailing etc all v close and you must try to get out into the hills aswell, Jalon Valley, Sierra Bernia etc..

Hi Sarah911 I've just tried the link to find out about the fiestas and it doesn't appear to be working.

Any update that you have would be welcome.

Also, I noticed that you live in the region, so any information on Valencia, Javea or surounding towns/villages would be great. We are going in May (24th) will it be reasonably warm by then? (The apartments have a pool but it isn't heated so I'm a bit worried!) :x37

thanks again, :thanks

We are usually a few degrees cooler than Javea becuase we are so high up, above the clouds if there are any.. our first summer guests start arriving mid may, the group that came last summer to overlap with the end of May bank holiday in the UK found the pool a bit chilly and the evenings warm enough for a drink outside but not yet ready to spend all night outside. They even had their breakfast inside, unheard of two weeks later. but... it was an incredibly late spring, it was wet and horrid most of march and april so dont panic yet. If this autumn is anything to go by (30 degrees most of october and only 2 days rain since June 1st) then global warmins is upon us!
mail me direct with ages of your party etc and I can happily put together some ideas for your holiday... got to do something on these chilly winter nights, no telly up here on our mountain top!!

to your questions, re XIC school and area, yes and yes, message me direct unless you want to enter in to long, drawn out and public debate on education, its a very emotive subject, very personal and specific to your children.. but before you plan your move make sure your kids have a place in the school of your choice. A lot of people move to this area because of the choice of schools, which you just dont seem to get in some other areas of spain. mine are at the Lady Eliz, two little girls and very happy, but may well put the smallest through the spanish system.

stop press... baby charlie had his first day at nursery today, for those that remember me planning our move and then discovering we were pregnant!!

We're travelling to Javea in August. We're staying in the Tossalet Area.If anyone knows it well, is it a relatively flat walk to Javea town and Arenal beach, also, are their bars, restaurants and shops in Tossalet. Thanks.

Tosalet is one of the best residential areas of Javea, nice villas upon large plots , most wiht splendid views
Quick to the Arenal beach by car , but not at walking distance
I recommed to rent a car

as one of our party is in a wheelchair, it makes it difficult to use a car but we love walking. last year we stayed in moraira, up a mountain, but still managed to walk to town and back every day, after a few,of course  do you know if tossalet is relatively flat or not, thanks.

I haven't stayed there but I've driven up from Javea to the Cap de la Nau and there are some pretty steep roads around the area. I don't imagine the roads are quite as bad at Tossalet but it certainly won't be flat. The only flat area I remember is the valley directly behind Arenal beach.
