sadly I have dentures -last holiday I was very excited had got several appointments with a Goan dentist to make new set. Now I cant fault the time and care they took. facilites are wonderful. BUT!!! I had the final fitting the day before I left - they were horrendous, the mouth fitment was fine, the teeth were huge!!! lol £250 lighter they have sat in my washbag for the last 12 months
I am not saying don't use them but be very specific about what you want

Hi G.L, a couple of friends had it done last year, they were more than happy with the results. Fairly painless (apart from slight tingling feeling after it, which did'nt last long) the worst bit they said was only being able to eat white food & drink clear liquids for 24 hrs ......Keith

the clear liquid wont be a problem believe me !! choice of Gin or Vodka and not forgetting water of course!!

I had the same problem with my dentures, I went to Smiles, in Calangute, and to be quite truthful they were awful, I couldn't chew properly with them in, and they made me look as if I had buck teeth, but I received them the day before we were leaving Goa, and there was not enough time to get them re made, I havent worn them since. I paid 250 pounds also, and I am now the proud owner of a new set of teeth that were made for me by a local dental technician, for 140 pounds, so you may not be getting a bargain.

Has nobody tried these Crest toothstrips from Ebay?
At least as good as Britesmile and a lot lot cheaper.

I know people go to the dentist while they're in Goa, and just wondering do you think it's worth going just to have some fillings re-done. Is this still a lot cheaper than at home? I know I need some re-done and am putting off going to the dentist  but if its a lot cheaper in Goa, am thinking maybe i should get it done whilst there if it didnt take up too much of my holiday time. Can anyone recommend a good dentist in Calungute/Baga or all they all further away? Thanks

Hi
I go to Dr Sunil Coutino who is near Colva. I had a filling last week 400 rupees. He is very gentle and aware of "fears". He is an ex army dentist and his surgery is spotless.
His address is Sea Breeze apartments, Colva-Margao Road,Pequeno Vanelim, Colva. His phone number is 278945.
Good Luck!

As someone mentioned, leave enough time after treatment to rectify any problems...adjustments etc.
I e-mailed Dr Ambert with an idea of what treatment I wanted/needed and he estimated about four days (allow for things unforseen) His reply was prompt. I shall also e-mail other dentists that have been used by HT'ers to get a ballpark figure of time and cost.

I just thought I would share this with you all.

I had 10 veneers done in January on our last visit to Goa , which I was most pleased with and even took pictures and sent them to another member on here, as he was a bit dubious about getting treatment done out there.

The dentist told me it would cost me £1500 and that he would do the work himself. He didn't and I ended up with his sidekick...to cut to the chase, I went to my own dentist this week and he freaked out when he saw what had been done, my teeth look nice, but there are no gaps between the bottom ones and they are in his words "fused together".

I am unable to floss and he is very worried that I may get gum disease, he is going to try and clean all the paste off that is still remaining, ( although I didn't notice that), and try and treat them to make some gaps. He said they had done an appalling job and they had also removed 2 crowns unecessarily and replaced them with veneers, (sounds like they were just money grabbing)?

I wouldn't have gone to the dentist so soon myself over here but a back filling fell out. Glad I did, but I now face a lot of corrective and expensive treatment.

I know some of you may have had good experiences of dentist in Goa, people I spoke to while on holiday were also pleased with their treatments, they didn't use the same dentist as me, or have exactly the same treatment though.
I had pre-booked my appointment over the net and felt obligated to honour it and the surgery was within spitting distance of our hotel.

I would like to warn other members to be careful when considering treatment and if you have had any done get it checked out over here to be on the safe side.

Regards
Ann

I have had great treatment from my Goan dentist, but I used him on the recommendation of friends.

I used a Dentist in Calungute, and to be quite truthful the set of dentures that they made have never been worn, they were complete rubbish. I didn't receive the dentures until a day before we were due to leave Goa, (even though they had, had weeks to make them, we were fobbed off with loads of excuses) they looked nice, but after wearing them for a few hours, you could feel that the surface of the inside of the teeth were not smooth, little bits of plastic where they hadnt been formed properly were digging into the roof of my mouth, and my tounge was catching on jagged bits of the teeth.

I tried getting my money back by emailing, and visiting them this year, but I had no chance, I went to a dental technician, in Newport and had a set of dentures made there. I have never been happier with a set of teeth, and believe it or not, they were cheaper than, what I had been charged in Goa.

There are now loads of Dentists, and Optitions, opening all over Calangute, Candolim, Baga, and Mapusa, they realise that there is money to be made, because us British are gullible enough to believe that we will get a better product for less money. Sadly there have cooked there own goose now because I would prefer to go private than chance them again.
