In answer to your question "Will it ever be moved"?

Not a chance

In the two weeks that we were in Goa it was worked on every day. You could hear quite a bit of work going on, and on the odd day they would pump a lot of water out of it.

Maybe it was a good idea that the River Princess wasn't moved this year. The after effects of the movement could be problematic for as far up as Calangute so I've been informed.

I think this is a bigger 'can of worms' than is expected. If it was moved earlier in the season it might have caused enough upheaval to really effect tourism and operators. Let's hope 'they' move it well before the start of the next tourist season.

Came back on the 12th dec, and it is still there, and still being worked on.

They were pumping vast ammounts of water out from it, and you could see the ship rising by way of the tide mark left on it from years gone by.

We were told by various shack owners that there are over 140 persons living and working on board the ship, trying to get the work done asap.

You can see a steadyish stream of workers, swimming out to the ship in 2's or more, with their orange life vests on.

When we were away in Goa in the last few weeks it was all happening around the river princess one of the days a movie was being made on the beach beside it ...sadly..on the monday of our second week a worker fell off the boat into the sea and drowned....we also watched one day as a young man walked out to the boat with a large pot of tea on his head...I did not know you could walk out to the boat :shrug :shrug .....colleen........http://img156.imageshack.us/img156/1033/1001211vm1.jpg

Our last day was when they were filming that bollywood film :)
Funny you should say about the lad walking out, one day when the tide had gone out, people were stood next to the boat, and the seas was only up to their knees

Saw the movie being made as well ......... they got a lot of european girls to play volleyball on the beach. My 18yr old son tried his best to get his face on camera, but who knows. Will have to buy umpteen million bollywood films now, to see if he got his 5 seconds of fame !!!!

Anyone out there just now got any update on the salvage work? There was quite a bit going on when we left before Xmas and with time running out before the next monsoon season I'd have expected something to be happening by now (if it ever is going to happen that is ) Alan

Colleen, I've not been online for a while, and have just seen the picture you've added :) You must have been fairly close to where me and the missus were! As We've got similar photos, but just from further over to the right as I don't think the River Princess are in our photos.

Will have to upload some photos and do a trip report of our first time to Goa :D

Is the ship still there or any signs of it being moved?
i can't believe it would still be there after all this time. :think

It's still there. Work (of an unspecified nature) is still going on on board, but there is no sign of it moving anywhere.

Lets hope they are not cutting it up, the asbestos would make north goa completely out of the question for a beach holiday.

Not yet, but if they dont get her off before the next monsoon, that will be the final outcome. It will undoubtedly pollute the beaches, but apart for some lagging on pipes in the engine room, asbestos wont be the main problem. Alan
