dont' forget you owe me a drink
if i can cross the elephants, and cows in the road
.. at least there's no zebra's crossing! (Your forgot the beggars, the ear cleaners, the lepers........!)
Other than malariahotspots which is an obvious marketing tactic from Glaxosmith.. the profit makers of Malarone.
As for repellant - good knight is available all over baga/calangute for a fraction of the price of repellants from the UK.
And from a mossie, midge magnet point of view is by far the best.
54 rupees for 600 sprays.
two for a pound

marketing tactics or not read the statistics one is one to many, and pams post reads 1.5 million.

Well done wickedchris at least you have got sense.....jxk8
I know it protects against the deadly strain , which Alvaclor does not, but what about the rest of the strains?

Would be better if we don't go down that road.
Remember this is a worldwide unsolved debate and there is nobody that has come up with the answer yet. Just opinions.
I am looking for someone, somewhere to show me factual evidence that we should ditch the PnC and take Malarone or others.
And when it comes to understanding i am confident enough and intelligent enough not to take my advice from a website that is 100 percent biased.
I have searched the internet far and wide to find an up to date source. The most up to date is Oct 07 and this advises all to take PnC. Everywhere else advises PnC
Newspaper stories and Glaxo websites are the only sites advising Malarone alone.
Pam has put some excellent links on and my "sorry pam" was not all that appreciative. I apologise for that however i am still firmly on the fence with the PnC vs Malarone vs nothing debate.
And i want to get off it before the 4th of Feb
i only use malorone and iv never had a problem with them.i know they cost more but there worth it .i got mine on the net without a script. much cheeper
I just said i dont want to risk it, i want you to please write him a perscription, so she checked his weight, phoned the pharmacy and he said he'll order them in for Mon.
Doctor also said that malarone is a shorter course, only need to take them 2 days before you go, everyday on holiday, and only a week after you get back.
But with alvaclor its a week before you go, everyday whilst your in Goa, and a whole 4 weeks when you retern.
Cost around 20pounds for 25 childrens tablets, which is worth it i think.
If only the medical profession would be uniform in their advice! In the meantime, take advice anyway, take what you think is right- but don't do nothing.
I know people say that alvaclor doesnt protect against ALL strains of malaria, but if pharmacies in the UK are still recommending it, i dont see why i shouldnt take the risk again in using it.
It isnt just because of the price, the doxyline and larium are around the same price, but i dont like the sound of the bad reactions using those.
Yummymummy just buy enough for the week before you go and buy the rest in Goa it is much cheaper. I'm sure a day won't make much difference. Have a great holiday, you won't be sorry to leave this weather behind.
Thats good, the packets in the UK come in strips of 7, one strip for each week so im told, so if i buy one packet today so myself and partner can use until we get to Goa to get some more.
I am so excited, went and picked up our tickets today after i finally got my sons malarone tablets ordered.
It was raining, still is raining. And to make it worse my car is in the garage until Mon
Yes they do both. Just take the packets into the chemist and show them what you want. We usually go to the one in Calangute opposite the old garage but I think they will all have them in. We usually buy enough to take the first week before we go out again the following year.
Thanks My partner can call into a chemist on his way home from work today
thanks
P.&C ... but you can not ..GET THEM IN GOA..I took the box with me last year and the man said you can not get them here .....
My sister in law and my brother are going to goa with us in march ..they went to their DR today and he gave them
You can definately buy chloroquine in Johnnys Chemist in Calungute, and the only reason I didn't buy the proguanil was because I thought it was those that made me sick, otherwise he could have suppled. You can buy single strips off of the web, as opposed to a whole course.
just seen this, not sure if anyone else has put a link to it
IrishColleen you definately can buy P&C in Goa. We buy it every year from the chemist in Calangute, opposite old garage.
