I agree with you Dawn/Graham, 100%, but some people like to come in here and whine and moan, but rest assured they will be some of the first to book again for the following season. As you say as long as it doesnt put you off thats all that matters ;)

As a long time member here, I'm a little unhappy about the last couple of posts, one giving the usual advice given to anyone who dares to point to any of Goa's failings "not to come back", while Gemma33s about whiners and moaners is a bit much. Yes I'm off back next Nov. to hook up with all the friends I've made over the years. This does'nt mean however that I've been struck with the sort of blindness that seems to effect some posters regarding Goa. The tourism industry in Goa is in a mess, the infrastructure is collapsing, crime and drug abuse is increasing, and corruption continues unabated. Have we not to mention the unmentionable here?, do we just leave any first timers with the idea that there is no problems in Goa? I dont regard myself as a "whiner and a moaner" or a"doom amd gloomer", but just a LONG time visitor to Goa whos very concerned as to whats happening there, and think the "rose tinted spectacles" posters, are nor doing Goa any favours ignoring those problems. I don't think anyone who reads this forum can go to Goa unaware of all the negatives. We allow a lot of non holiday discussion on the Goa forum as it is a more unique place than others and needs more research than the "normal" beach destination.
I am going back firstly so I can actually get to spend some time there for a change( :D ) and secondly I can enjoy Goa for what it is and not be too worked up about the changes/ negatives as I am a newcomer to Goa and haven't experienced the changes that others have. I am also well aware of the problems those who stay longterm have but I don't have them on a short holiday. ( believe me, I feel great sympathy for those longtermers and annoyance at the way some are being treated)
Without the attachment to Goa I just would not return to a place where I have not enjoyed or have fretted too much over. I do understand the pull it has for those who have known it for a long time though. And to stop going for those people is a huge decision as Goa has been a part of their life for so long.

Allan,
I think the point has been missed somewhat, but I think you will find that the moaners, groaners, whiners etc are to those who come onto the site and do not give any constructive advice but just continually moan and whine without giving this. I agree with the issues you raised, however, I would like to point out that we (by no stretch of the imagination) look at Goa or any part of India with "rose tinted" specs!!!! We have travelled to many places in the world and have seen far worse. We are quite intelligent enough to know what the problems are in Goa! (I don't think you have to look too far from this country to see the same problems!)
If I was a first timer I would welcome contructive advice on this forum so that I would be able to do more research, however, you will notice that on this forum there are some that continually do not do this and like I pointed out do not have to return if they feel that bad about it. There is alot of good advice on this forum and yes the negative points must also be pointed out - this wouldn't be a discussion forum otherwise!

I'm sure you do not put Alan in to that category. He gives a lot of excellent advice and help on the forum. :)

I agree he does give plenty of good advice but there are plenty that don't.....that was my point

I'll be first to put my hand up regarding negative posts but I'll be putting weekly reports up during November. I will be back possibly the last time for a month (2wks North and 2wks South).

I'm quite interested in going early Nov' as there will no doubt be early tourist season chaos.

:offtop Anyone know when the first UK charters arrive?

First FC flight leave Gatwick Sat 1st Nov arriving 2nd

I have re booked to go back for the 2nd time in November this year and must admit when i read a few posts on here about how bad it is now i completely ignore it as like others have said its what you make it and i had the best time last year which is why we have booked 3 weeks this year. if i dont go next year the only reason will be cos the world is a very big place and theres alot more i want to see of it not cos i didnt like Goa. i love the fact you dont need to be all dressed up to the nines every night and worry about what your wearing its so relaxed. :) It didnt cos much more to add the 3rd week on either - Bonus :) :)

Usually Monarch ran charter flights,in the main for Jewel in the Crown, during most of August, and they were always very busy, but this year there does'nt seem anything before the 1st Nov. Another sign that its not just the biggest tour companies that are cutting back next season. It will likely mean less last minute bargains Alan
