Hi,
I'm new to this Web Site so I hope I'm doing this right!!! I've booked a swim up room for my family later this year and some of them look a bit ropey (by roads/night clubs etc). Our son is disabled so we were hoping for a quiet swim up room with a large pool area that gets plenty of sun and near the beach with a good view because we can't stray too far from the room. If anybody who has visited there could tell me the location of the best swim up family (4) rooms (room numbers if possible!) I will be able to make a request to the travel agent and the family holiday will be saved hurrah!!! I'm worried sick about the reviews on trip advisor and the last thing I want is to have a view of a Greek main road in the day and the sound of people stumbling out of night clubs in the early hours of the morning! Thanks
Spud xxxx
Just stumbled across this site (nice), but thought i'd post as we've literally just returned from staying at Sensatori.
Firstly Spud, I'm not able to help you on room numbers I'm afraid (there's a good few hundred of them) but I would suggest giving Mario a call at the Hotel. He's in guest relations and will do whatever he can to help I'm sure.
The hotel's number is ++ 30 28970 26500
That said, there are plenty of swim-up rooms facing the beach although no direct access to the other main pools (unless you swim across your pool that is). Overall though I would say the resort is built on levels but there are lifts which will help with the accessibility.
As for your other concerns, they pretty much mirrored ours. Rest assured that the road to the front of the hotel is not a min road - nor particularly busy. Also, the noise wasn't really a problem. There are no local nightclubs and most of the music comes from the hotel's own staged productions. We were quite close but it wasn't disturbing enough to keep us / our kids awake.
Fire away if I can help with anything else
Regards

Other things about the resort:
1. I wouldn't recommend it if you're a couple - lots of kids (but it was half term).
2. Play club - very busy and over subscribed. Not a patch on Mark Warner
3. Food - decent choice of restaurants and pretty good food considering the mass catering - 3 were inclusive (main, Thai and Taverna) and two were extra (al dente and Aroma Stone Grill).
4. The Spa - absolutely wonderful .... massages, manicures etc - top marks.
BAD THINGS:
1. Not enough sun beds - by far. And people were doing the age-old irritating thing of bagging them. Honestly, we say the Germans are bad but the Brits are just as bad if not worse. I can't tell you how many people were hacked off with this.
2. Hot Tub - sent several children to the doctors with ear infections and rashes apparently. We spoke to one family whose sun had an ear infection and rash and it was put down to the hot tub.

Spud & Pen to the Greek forums of HT
An article in the Times online that might be of interest to us Sensaori addicts
I didn't want to touch on the clientele but I do have to say - for a family which has only previously gone to Mark Warner - there was a certain, umm, culture shock.
I think there were only a handful of other couples from the South East - the majority of visitors were from Newcastle, Manchester and Liverpool. (Please don't think I'm being snobbish - I'm as fair minded as the rest of them).....There was a distinct penchant for tattoos as the article describes and, as I mooted above, the sun lounger thing was not what one expected from such a resort.
I have to admit that we fled once or twice from the pool - to the Beach which is much quieter and off to Knossos for a day trip (worth a visit - easy to get to on the bus and provides some sanity)

Will make a note of the number and give Mario a ring before we go. Reviews seem to be getting a little better at least so that's one less worry!
Thanks again

cancelled on Saturday. After speaking to Thompsons they have convinced me to rebook.
Has anyone got anything positive to say. What was food and entertainment like?
I would go again - is that positive enough?
The food was pretty good we thought - especially for the mass catering. We tended to eat at the Red Saffron Taverna which was typical bbq style food - lovely salads, prawns, lots of meat variants etc. The choice and the quality was good. We didn't eat at the Aroma Stone Grill nor the Al Dente restaurant due to the kids.
There is an adult-only pool which only had adults.
I think if you've got a swim-up room you're sorted. I would be reticient about going and not having that as the sun lounger business hacked a load of people off.
The Spa is top notch - if you're into that then sort of thing then you'll have a blast.

Thanks for the positive news, We have got swim up rooms so should be ok. What did you think of the entertainment ? Was it as good as promised.
Feel much better after reading your feed back. Thanks Di
We too are booked to go to Sensatori; but on the 14th August, we have'nt got swim up rooms -they were fully booked,so because of all the problems and the lack of sunbeds etc etc etc I am seriously thinking about cancelling after readiing all the comms on here and on tripadvisor. How did you cancel the trip, did you get a full refund from thompson?
Really value your help!
rebssam
Cancelling was not easy, sat in travel agents for approx four hours. If you decide to cancel you must make sure it is before eight weeks before you travel. We was charged a cancellation fee, and lost insurance money. It was only when I phoned Thompson to complain after being passed from pillar to post got to speak to an angel called Tommy. He explained why there had been problems with food. The children`s pool had now been sorted (Not that that would have affected us) He said we had not been given the information we needed and offered to rebook giving us back cancellation fee and insurance, so we was lucky.
The prices for all the holidays have gone up so much since we booked in August last year, we would have been compromissing all the things we wanted. So we have decided to risk it. It has caused me alot of distress, and I only hope things are sorted by time we get there.
Before you cancel check out the prices of a replacement holiday you might get a shock. If you swap your holiday it must be for the same price or more. (I was not prepared to pay more)
Hope this helps

Stayed at Sensatori in May.
The rooms are of a very high standard, however due to the push to get the place open, some of our fellow guests found sinks and baths not connected and showers that flooded.
the resort is not very well organised, we arrived at 1am and had to wait until around 4am for the luggage to arrive as only one porter was available.
The biggest problem they have is the standard of food and service. Also fixed service times for dinner 6.30 or 8.30pm
It could be a really good resort but it is not 5* plus, even the Hotel Management accept it will take a year to reach this standard.
Had this resort been sold as 3* plus then I would have found it more acceptable, I feel Thompson are over selling this resort as 5* plus.
Thanks very much for your help, Ive got 9 weeks until I go, so better hurry up and decide! I thought our holiday was exspensive enough at £4200 for a week, we had to book two rooms, as my daughter is 15 yrs old I was told that we couldnt share a family room (have a son age 10 as well) as they dont allow children over the age of 12 to share a family room! So for that amount of money a week I was expecting a 5 star holiday........... somehow I don't think we are going to get that! I hope Im wrong. Thanks again Di and hope you have a great holiday!

I was considering this hotel but I am having serious second thoughts now, I can't believe the price you are paying for a week Rebssam, you could take your family for a week to a decent all-inc in Barbados for that. It worries me that do not allow children over 12 to be in the same room.
We paid half that for a week in half term for us and our 5yr old twins. (not being allowed to have yor children in the same room is outrageous. Our room has a separate area with two full size single beds. They're minors and should be allowed to stay with you. Sounds like an excuse for making more cash to me.
Sounds like a lot of money for the holiday tbh..... Truthfully, I wouldn't spend that much on a holiday there.... no way. (sorry)

PS. dihubbard - we the young 'uns we didn't see too much of the entertainment so can't really comment.
Hi there, we are going to the Sensatori on the 14th August, I noticed rebbisam that you are going that date too. I have spent the last couple of weeks debating whether to go or cancel. after checking out alternatives we decided to take the risk, it sounds like some people like it, although a lot don't. At the end of the day if the kids are happy Im sure we will be. Has anyone got any reports on the entertainment, or the kids clubs please.
There are just the 2 of us, no children. Is the resort mainly for families and younger adults???

Having just recovered from an operation, the last thing I want to do is worry about slipping on the floor. There seem to be more negative than positive comments.
Thank you everyone, we were paying for our holiday next week but now we are going to cancel and perhaps go the Caribbean because, stupid as it may seem, our holiday is dearer to go to Crete than to the Caribbean!!!
