knitter46,

Refer to the FCA thread. Even though LGW allows two pieces, FCA still only allow a single piece.

Hi all, flying out next week from London to Brazil via Portugal,if we buy a bottle of champagne at the duty free in London can we carry it the whole way through to Brazil, thanks.

You should be OK, it's only the opening of DF alchohol etc which is prohibted on the plane/in the airport.

Not sure about this because Portugal being a member of the EC also applies the 100ml rule. Perhaps if it's in a SEALED duty-free bag with the receipt visible it might be ok, but if you have to deplane and pass through security, I'm not sure I'd like to risk it ...... but then I tend to play by the rules and play safe ............. champagne (even duty-free) does not come cheap!

I assume that you are flying it to Lisbon for an onward connecting flight? If you are - how long are you in transit in Lisbon? Will you have time to buy it there instead? To be on the safe side you might be better off buying it in Lisbon whilst in the departure lounge there because ny delay in your connection that means that you are going to be transferred to landside in Lisbon means that you wouldn't be allowed to take it back through security with you when do finally make your connecting flight.

Also, just a thought - as you'll be flying from Lisbon to outside of the EU you will be able to buy it genuinely Duty Free there. I'm not sure whether you would or not here - I think it might depend on whether you have a through ticketed flight or not?

I wouldn't risk it. There is a long topic on another site about the pitfalls of taking liquids in transit.

I personally had a bottle of vodka confiscated when I was transferring at Manchester airport. I never left airside, but still had to go through security again for the onward flight.

torx,

As Alsacienne says, if you purchase it in duty free, make sure they seal it in a duty free bag and keep the recirpt. You should be ok but as Luci mentions, some over-zellous securty staff have been known to confiscate things when in transit even though you can prove it's from duty free and in a sealed. I've never had a problem transiting through Paris. Given some bottles aren't much cheaper in duty free these days, could you not purchase it before travel and pack it in your suitcase?

Make sure you take your clear bags for liquids with you.......
At Liverpool they are only available from vending machines at the cost of 50p for two !!!!

Flying from LGW next week.....Quick question....

Do you have to get your own clear re-sealable bags or do they provide them?? want to take some of my cosmetics in my hand luggage.

Thanks

Much better to have them in advance. Tesco small re-sealable freezer bags - 20 for approx £1.

nickyt78. They are still giving them away at Gatwick, both South and North Terminals. Tonyt

At least if you have the bags in advance you can put everything in there beforehand rather than fiddling around whilst in the security queue.

Take a few spare bags with you - they are good for putting anything in that might leak in your suitcase.

Asda also have the right size and with zip type closing. In Belfast recently I had the medium bags and they would not allow it. Their bags were £1 but I thought it was just one but 3. Another lady there bought some and gave me one. It was a piece of nonsence! ONly 4 items in it and one could come out. That's how picky they were.

Sue - was that City or International ?

My wife went through City last weekend and had her handbag thoroughly searched then swabbed and analysed !
The only thing she is likely to smuggle is shoes ( and possibly handbags) :)

Belfast International Airport's website is saying that restriction on liquids is the same as BAA. No mention of only being allowed 4 items in it, just that each item has to be 10mls capacity or less and bag has to close properly. I've got one of those zip close bags from Accesorize.

I do have a question though, someone at work said that at an airport they've been to, they weren't allowing containers of 100mls capacity, they had to hold less than 100mls. I ddin't have time to ask which airport it was though.

The Belfast International website uses the same photo as is on page 1 of this topic, and it has 5 items in the bag. But the rules don't specify the maximum number of items, only the maximum capacity or volume of each container, which is 100mls rather than 10mls cate.

Difficult to provide an answer cate, perhaps you need to ask the work colleague to verify which airport it was.

:whoops I missed the 2nd 0 on the end. I know the rules are 100mls or les per container.

I know my work colleague went to Las Vegas a few months back so it could have been there. I might be carrying something which is 100mls which is why I was asking.
